Chapter 984: The Great Agreement Begins
Chapter 984: The Great Agreement Begins
"Using the power of space to manipulate demonic power?"
Flugar was amazed.
"Just as one would expect from the Singularity of Chaos—truly incredible!"
Obsidia nodded in admiration. Nolan’s mastery of spatial power was beyond anything she had ever seen.
As the three of them chatted excitedly, the ground beneath them suddenly started shaking violently.
Before they could react, a cold, piercing voice echoed from the abyss.
"Who dares absorb demonic power in the Land of Death?"
Arnold, Flugar, and Obsidia felt as if their very souls were being squeezed by the voice.
"That voice..."
Arnold’s heart began to pound.
"I forgot! That’s the catastrophe-level monster that lives in the western region—the Soul Eater!"
Whoosh!
A monster shot out of the dark abyss.
It was enormous, measuring a hundred meters long and sixty meters tall. Its appearance was also bizarre: a disgusting, writhing black leech covered in rows of sharp fangs.
A large eye sat in the center of its body, resembling a cyclops’ eye.
"Human, did you do this!?" the monster snapped, glaring sharply at Nolan.
Nolan’s face remained expressionless behind his mask as he replied, "Yes, it was me. What’s the problem?"
The monster paused for a moment before roaring angrily.
"Of course there’s a problem! I am the ruler of this abyss, and all the demonic energy in the Land of Death belongs to me! How dare you use it on that woman!?"
The woman it was referring to was Malverna, whose body was completely covered in the demonic energy of the Land of Death.
"Don’t be so stingy. I’m just borrowing it for a bit. I’ll give it back later."
Nolan waved his hand.
"Go away. Don’t bother me."
The monster: "..."
Boom!
An immense pressure erupted from its body and slammed into Nolan.
Unfortunately, it had no effect. Nolan continued standing casually in place.
"W-What!? How is that possible!? How can you withstand my pressure?"
Arnold couldn’t hold back his laughter.
"That monster is really stupid."
Obsidia and Flugar nodded in unison.
"You’re right."
Nolan shook his head.
"Didn’t I already tell you that I only wanted to borrow a little demonic energy from this place? Why are you being so stubborn?"
He let out a sigh.
Then, he raised his index finger toward the sky and whispered, "Law of Chaos: Annihilation..."
Whoosh!
The clouds above suddenly gathered into a single point directly over the abyss. Then, a gigantic eye, five hundred meters wide, appeared and opened.
The moment the monster met its cold gaze, its massive body suddenly stiffened.
The next second, its skin began turning to ash at an incredible speed.
"W-Wait! D-Don’t kill me! I’m sorry!" it roared desperately.
But Nolan couldn’t be bothered to listen. He simply closed his eyes.
"No!"
Whoosh!
The monster’s body vanished in a gust of wind. Just like that, one of the catastrophe-level monsters on the western continent had been wiped out.
Arnold, Obsidia, and Flugar could only shake their heads.
Nolan had already killed three catastrophe-level monsters.
The first was the dragon in the western region, followed by the dragon that attacked the capital, and now the catastrophe-level monster on the western continent.
If this continued, catastrophe-level monsters might disappear from the map of this world.
The monster’s death had absolutely no effect on Malverna’s recovery.
An hour later, something surprising happened. A black cocoon began to form around Malverna’s body.
Mysterious roots sprouted from the cocoon and slowly pierced the edge of the abyss, as if anchoring it in place.
Nolan deactivated his spatial magic and let out a long sigh.
"Is it over, my lord?" Arnold asked from behind.
Nolan turned around and nodded slightly.
"She should be fully recovered in a month—and much stronger than before. Just wait and see."
The three of them exchanged smiles.
"All right, let’s head back," Nolan said.
...
At a luxurious restaurant, two men met and shook hands.
"So, what about my previous offer, Duke Malvain?"
The speaker was a handsome, tall man with golden hair and an annoying, sly smile.
Jason didn’t answer right away. He sat down in his chair and crossed his legs.
"What guarantee do you have that your plan will work, Arlen?" he asked.
Arlen burst out laughing before sitting down.
"One hundred percent..."
"One hundred percent?" Jason narrowed his eyes. "How can you be so sure?"
Arlen took a sip of his tea.
"Many people hate Seira Lorian’s leadership, including the nobles in the four regions. There are also many ministers who secretly oppose her. So..."
A smirk appeared on his face.
"This is the perfect time to cause some chaos and get certain factions thinking about rebellion. What do you think?"
A tense silence fell between them. Jason closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
A moment later, he exhaled and opened his eyes again.
"All right, I agree. But..."
A cold glint flashed in his eyes.
"Don’t forget about the potion to raise the dead that the Singularity of Light promised..."
Arlen laughed smugly and held out his hand.
"Deal..."
Jason accepted it, and the two shook hands.
...
"So, why are you wearing a mask like that?"
Elina crossed her arms over her chest and looked at Nolan suspiciously.
Nolan shook his head.
"I just want to avoid being recognized by your enemies. If I die, wouldn’t that make you sad?"
Elina: "..."
"Huh..."
She sighed deeply and massaged her temples.
"Whatever. Now help me finish my work."
She handed him a stack of documents.
"It has to be done within two hours."
Nolan rolled his eyes. The reason he didn’t want to become a candidate for the throne was that he was too lazy to deal with government affairs.
And now, Elina was actually trying to hand that responsibility over to him.
"Sorry, I can’t do it."
His refusal made Elina growl angrily.
"Why?"
"I don’t understand Virella’s government system or the matters related to it. If I make a mistake, it could have serious consequences."
Elina tapped her forehead. She had completely forgotten something so simple.
"I understand. I’m sorry."
Nolan simply smiled without saying a word.
"Then what’s the point of you being my advisor if you can’t help me with my work?"
Elina had never had an advisor before.
Well, Rafine was technically her advisor, but Elina had never really thought of her that way. She saw her more as someone she could discuss things with.
"An advisor’s job is to offer advice and point out the flaws in every decision you make," Nolan explained. "So, tell me—how are you planning to deal with your siblings in the future?"
Elina suddenly remembered what Nolan had told her back then.
"I can help you defeat your brothers. I can even come up with a plan to kill them."
Taking a deep breath, Elina rested her chin on her palm.
"To be honest, I still don’t know how to do it. Aldric, Cedric, and Adalen haven’t made a move yet, and they haven’t shown any weaknesses either."
Nolan laughed.
"What if I told you they were about to?"
Elina was stunned.
"What do you mean?"
Before Nolan could say another word, a loud knock came from outside.
"Elina, bad news has come from the capital!"
