Chapter 999: The Truth About Seira’s Reincarnation (1)
"Hey, do you believe in something called... reincarnation?"
Nolan tensed at those words. He took a sip of his wine and looked deeply into her eyes.
"What do you mean, Your Majesty?"
Seira didn’t answer right away. She remained silent for several minutes before letting out a long sigh.
"I don’t know if I should tell you this or not. After all, we’re strangers," she said softly. "But while talking to you, I’ve had this strange feeling. It’s as if we actually know each other. I just can’t remember when we met."
Nolan fell silent. There was no denying that they were siblings.
But he couldn’t say it out loud. If he did, it would only lead to more questions, and that would be troublesome.
Seira took another sip of her wine before speaking.
"Would you believe me if I told you I’m a... reincarnator?"
Thud!
Nolan’s heart raced when he heard that. His face, hidden behind his half-mask, turned pale.
"A-A reincarnator?" he repeated in surprise. "What do you mean, Your Majesty?"
Seira smiled, as if she had already anticipated his reaction.
"Isn’t it obvious? I’m most likely a reincarnator."
Nolan was at a loss for words. An overwhelming sense of fear surged through him.
"H-How do you know you’re a reincarnator?"
He tried to remain calm, but he couldn’t. His body still felt tense and heavy after hearing Seira’s words.
"I’ve acquired some mysterious memories," Seira replied honestly. "Those memories belong to someone else."
She leaned back against the sofa and stared at the ceiling with a dazed expression.
"I asked the powerful mages of the Imperial Palace, but none of them could figure it out. Only one person came to a conclusion. It was Cassiopeia. She said it was highly likely that those memories came from my previous life."
She still remembered Cassiopeia’s uncertain expression.
Even that woman hadn’t dared to say with certainty that the memories truly belonged to her past life.
Even so, it was the only plausible explanation.
Nolan’s breathing quickened. Fear welled up inside him, but he quickly suppressed it.
No... that’s impossible. There’s still a chance to turn things around. It’s impossible for Seira to be my fiancée, he muttered, trying to convince himself.
Once he had calmed down a little, he took another sip of his wine, only to realize that his glass was empty.
Nolan shamelessly grabbed the bottle and poured himself another glass.
As he took another sip, the warmth of the wine spread through his body, helping him relax.
"If I may ask, what memories have you recovered, Your Majesty? Perhaps I can help you trace your past life."
Seira remained silent for a few seconds before answering.
"My past life most likely came from a distant world. Those memories tell me about a vast world filled with tall buildings. There were box-like vehicles that could move without using magic. If I’m not mistaken, they were called cars."
Nolan’s breathing quickened again as panic gripped his chest.
"Then there were other vehicles, like airplanes. How should I explain it...? They were like giant birds that could fly high in the sky. Oh, right! Those things could carry dozens of people on a single trip. Even more than that! Then there were trains. They were similar to what you just described. To be honest, I—"
Seira enthusiastically explained everything she knew from those mysterious memories.
Meanwhile, Nolan simply sat there, his expression blank.
Seira’s voice gradually faded into the background.
Why is this happening? Why have my fears actually become... reality?
Before, he could still deny it. Maybe those memories really did come from a past life. But now, it turned out that wasn’t the case.
Seira’s memories perfectly described the Earth from his previous world. A sharp pain gripped his chest, making it difficult for him to breathe.
"Hey, Mr. Frey, are you okay? Why do you look so dazed?"
Seira’s faint voice snapped Nolan out of his thoughts.
He looked at her and met her dazed gaze.
"S-Sorry, Your Majesty. I was just amazed by what you were telling me. A world with such tall buildings and highly advanced vehicles must be truly beautiful, right?"
Seira opened the bottle of wine on the table and poured some into her glass.
She took a sip and nodded weakly.
"You’re right. That world is so... beautiful. It’s so wonderful that sometimes I think life there must be far more enjoyable than the life I’m living now."
Her voice sounded sad and heavy.
No one knew how difficult her life had been all this time. As the eldest daughter, she carried the expectations of everyone around her.
She had to be a role model for her siblings and a source of pride for her father.
But was that really what she wanted?
Of course not. She didn’t want any of it. She wanted a life of freedom, without anyone constantly holding her back.
If she had the chance, she would choose to live as an ordinary person rather than be born into nobility, let alone the imperial family.
Nolan didn’t dare say anything. After all, he could sense the burden Seira was carrying.
He felt the same way. He had hoped that in this second life, he would be born into an ordinary family.
But those damn gods seemed to have done it on purpose. They made him be born into the Lorian family and become one of the princes.
"Your Majesty, you’re drunk," Nolan said as he slowly stood up and walked toward her. "Why don’t you return to your room?"
"No!" Seira refused firmly as she gulped down the rest of her wine. "I’m not drunk!"
Even as she said this, her face was as red as a ripe tomato, and her gaze had become dazed and unfocused.
Those were the clearest signs that she was drunk.
Nolan let out a long sigh.
"I’ll call the maids to take you back to your room."
Just as he turned to leave, Seira suddenly stopped him.
"Wait!"
Nolan froze. He turned around and met her gaze, which was filled with shock.
Her pale pink pupils, which had been dazed moments ago, suddenly became clear.
Breathing heavily, she stood up and staggered toward him.
Nolan was startled and quickly caught her.
"Are you all right, Your Majesty?"
Seira didn’t seem to hear him. She stared at him intently, as if she were afraid he would disappear if she looked away.
"May I take off your mask?"
Nolan was caught off guard. He hesitated, intending to refuse, but when he saw the hopeful expression on her face, he swallowed his words.
"All right."
Seira’s eyes lit up. She immediately reached out and removed his mask, revealing his handsome face.
"Y-You’re so handsome!" Seira exclaimed, her eyes filled with admiration as she gently touched his face. "How could you hide such a handsome face?"
Nolan felt a little embarrassed by her words.
"I just don’t feel comfortable showing it to other people," he replied casually.
"I see..."
Seira nodded in understanding. She looked at him tenderly before saying something that nearly made Nolan’s heart jump out of his chest.
"Your face looks so much like someone who always appears in my memories."
She paused for a moment.
"His name is... Nolan Frey."
