Chapter 2038: The Strategy (2)
Chapter 2038: The Strategy (2)
It was quite obvious that a special intent was present between Rex and Diamantona.
High Lord Rashal was sharp enough to easily notice the way Rex’s crimson eyes shone with deadliness during the making of the Purgation Duel’s battlefield. And even before that, he also somewhat grasped Rex’s killing intent.
During the banquet, he had noticed Rex was missing from the group.
He only appeared a few minutes after the others had already sat down around the table.
Davina told him that Rex went upstairs for some reason.
And with Rex’s mysterious background separate from his origin from the Mortal Realm, there must be something—or someone who piqued his interest on the second floor. Now, it was clear that Diamantona was the person who caught Rex’s eye.
"Prey..." High Lord Rashal tilted his head. "Is he tied to the God you wanted to challenge?"
"No," Rex shook his head. "He’s tied to something greater, and as I said, it’s not wise to talk about it."
High Lord Rashal and the others nodded their heads in understanding.
It seemed that, other than High Lord Ursa, who was certainly going to give them immense trouble, there was another one—that they needed to pay attention to. "No wonder there were no records about him," Vadyn massaged her forehead. "One thing that I found about him was that he originated from a low realm that has already been destroyed."
"Hm?" Rex turned to Vadyn. "How did you find out about that?’
Of course, he was certain that High Lord Rashal and his people went to gather information—about their enemies. Information is power, but in this case, it was far greater, as it might be the one thing that would save them from death, as they were outnumbered.
"An oracle friend tried to course through the stream of memories to find out more about him. She could not see much other than a glimpse of his last memories. She saw a world of blood-red crystals and death as far as the eye can see, and then a world-ending lance that fell from the sky before her connection was sliced and her soul was damaged."
"I must say, that’s a reckless thing to do, Vadyn. She’s lucky that she didn’t die."
"We’re at desperate times. It’s not like I wanted to do this."
Rex shook his head.
It was extremely risky to pry into Diamantona’s past, as his past was tied to the Highseat of Invincibility.
Only a Scion could tamper with another Scion.
Anyone who isn’t would suffer immense backlash for prying into the throne’s likeness.
Frankly, the oracle friend was lucky that her soul was only damaged, not crushed.
"But still, since we know that he was the one behind the attacks on the Cavity—we can somewhat guess that his ability was tied to red crystals. Perhaps he has the Law of Minerals or something like that, which meant it would be hard to kill him."
"Let’s assume the worst," High Lord Rashal intervened. "Let’s assume he was in possession of a Major Law. Not a Major Law from the lower order, but from the primary, core, or even the primeval order. If he’s as dangerous as Rex believed, then he would at least have that."
"None of our High Millinars possess a Major Law from above—the lower order." Elizabeth frowned at what he said. "And you’re assuming—that this Demigod from a realm outside of the God Realm would be in possession of such a strong Major Law?"
High Lord Rashal didn’t respond to Elizabeth instantly.
Instead, his eyes shifted towards Rex.
"What are your Laws, Rex?" He asked. "Are you willing to share them with us?"
"I don’t possess any Major Law, unfortunately. But I do hold three Laws." Rex’s voice was steady, and he saw surprise flashing in the eyes of Elizabeth, the blond woman, and Vadyn, but he didn’t stop. "I’ve the Law of Misdirection, the Law of Foresight, and the Law of Inevitability."
High Lord Rashal’s brow lifted slightly. "Law of Misdirection comes from the lower order—and the Law of Foresight from the primary order." He paused, contemplating the last one. "As for the last Law, I don’t think I’m aware of its order. But if I had to guess, it’s at least at primary and at most, at core."
He then turned to Elizabeth again, "Do you still think assuming the worst is still unreasonable?’
Elizabeth had no answer to that.
Normally, she was the one who was well-versed in this, as she knew about the nuances of things.
But somehow, when it comes to Rex, the established normalcy didn’t seem to affect him at all.
Like he exists in a reality that was exclusive to his own.
’Just possessing three Laws at the lower order would already be a heavy burden—and there would be a big threat of being devoured by the Laws. But to think that he has three Laws, and all of them are above the lower order... What is he?’ Elizabeth stole a glance at Rex who seemed to also be in contemplation. ’Where did Rashal find someone like him?’
On the other hand, Rex’s mind was fixed on something else entirely.
System, what are these orders they are talking about?
<Notice: The null, lower, primary, core, and primeval orders are the rank classification for any Law that exists within the universe. A Law is a power that originated from the God Realm—and talented mortals would be able to tap into that power. And the closer the Law’s connection to the God Realm, the higher it would classify into.>
<Average mortals would have no access to Laws. And those from the low realms—with the capacity to become a Demigod normally have at least one Law from the null order, the lowest order. Anything more than that would place the mortal above average.>
What do you mean by closer?
<It meant a Law came from different layers of power within the God Realm. And the deeper the layer, the more fundamental the power is to the universe; thus it would be classified higher. For example—the Law of Misdirection is classified lower than the Law of Time, as the latter is more fundamental to the universe.>
In that case, what about the Minor Law, Law, and Major Law?
<Minor, Basic, and Major Laws dictate an entity’s ability to draw out the full might of the Law.>
I thought Laws were powers tied to a God. Seems like I was mistaken.
Frankly, this didn’t surprise him.
Both Davina and Lilliana have multiple Laws.
Or at least, now both of them have multiple Laws as Lilliana was bestowed the Minor Law of Time.
Since the two of them were extremely talented, it was natural for them to have multiple Laws.
What are the probabilities of someone having multiple Laws?
Seeing the reactions from the wives and Vadyn, Rex grew curious. How impressive was it, really, to be in possession of multiple Laws? He had never given it much thought, as the Laws were simply inherent to his Soul Artifacts.
A power that he thought was natural in the Spirit Realm’s growth in power.
But now, seeing their faces, he wanted to know.
<The probability of a Demigod holding multiple Laws sits at an estimate of one in a thousand, assuming both Laws come from the null order. However, the probability would drop sharply when the Laws came from higher orders, skewing the odds into something extremely rare.>
<In the user’s case, the probability would be approximately one in a billion Demigods.>
No wonder.
Rex paused for a second as the others continued discussing the backup plan for Diamantona.
Taking into account the worst-case scenario, they would really need to take him seriously.
I’ve seen what a Major Law could do. And if Diamantona has one, then that would be a problem indeed. System, what are the chances of my current Laws against one Major Law—from the core order? Is the gap really big?
<Notice: the user’s Law of Inevitability is a flexible Law that could empower any Law. Due to that, the user’s Laws are generally far stronger than any Law at the same order. However, against a Major Law from the core order, the chances for the user to go against it and triumph are low. Around fifteen percent to thirty percent.>
Rex massaged his forehead.
His growth over the past few days was already monstrous enough, but he could only do so much.
It wasn’t realistic to also grow his Laws on top of everything.
Can I realistically grow at least one of my Laws to Major Law?
<Does the user want to purchase the information for one hundred million gold?>
Yes.
<Affirmative.>
<Notice: the user possesses sufficient gold to establish a deeper connection with the God Realm through one of the user’s Laws. However, elevating a Basic Law to a Major Law requires the full completion of a Sacred Tribulation—a formal, high-divine request issued by the God Realm itself.>
<Realistically, the user has no time to do that.>
Rex sighed lightly.
It seemed he would need to rely on his newfound power to compensate for his lacking Laws.
A gap he couldn’t close in time, but one he could work around with the strength he now possesses.
Even though Diamantona wasn’t confirmed to have a Major Law, he was already preparing for when it was confirmed. At the same time, High Lord Rashal also decided that if things weren’t looking good— he would kill Diamantona without heeding Rex’s request.
He said it openly.
In this situation, they need to adapt.
The meeting continued, shifting to the other warriors on High Lord Ursa’s side.
Unlike Diamantona, whose abilities were still shrouded in mystery, the others were known quantities—High Millinars of Ursa’s elite force, warriors whose powers had been documented and even well-known over centuries or millennia of service.
High Lord Rashal spoke with the precision of a man who had spent decades preparing for this moment— detailing each warrior’s strengths, their favoured tactics, and their weaknesses. Rex listened attentively, committing every detail to memory.
Davina and Lilliana did the same, their expressions focused and grim.
Even Vadyn, who had created the report, leaned forward and listened like she knew nothing.
It took a full hour before the meeting shifted to their own side.
High Lord Rashal went first—explaining his abilities with the same clinical detachment he had used to dissect his enemies, involving a realm he called the All-white Force. And then Vadyn, explaining what she could do with her abilities.
Rex followed, laying out the full scope of his current newfound power—the primordium energy.
And lastly, Davina, who now has greater control over the moon and stars.
Another hour passed.
By the end, everyone understood everyone.
There were no more secrets, no more unknowns. Just the cold, hard calculus of battle.
Since they would be relying on each other with their lives, this was paramount to do before the battle.
And then, the meeting ended.
High Lord Rashal’s side moved first, filing out of the room to handle the logistics—weapons, armor, final preparations. Vadyn followed along with the wives. Rex and the others were told to wait until the preparations were ready.
He stepped out of the meeting room, his mind still turning over the details, and stopped.
Someone was waiting for him.
Standing not too far away from the door was the blonde woman, the one who had avoided his gaze on the rooftop. She straightened when she saw him, her posture stiff—her hands clasped tightly in front of her.
Rex could see something in her expression—nervousness, perhaps, or guilt.
"Go on without me." He said, casting a glance at Davina and Lilliana.
Both didn’t argue and went on to the waiting room.
Rex turned back to the blond woman and approached her slowly, his footsteps measured, his expression unreadable. The Purgation Duel was almost upon them, and whatever she wanted, it had to be important. Even if it didn’t, he reckoned he would hear her out.
Since she’s High Lord Rashal’s wife, that’s the least he could do.
