Chapter 394: Feelings in Flux!

"Don't worry, you've kept your end of the bargain, and I'll keep mine. Head back to the capital with the army, your friend should be arriving there soon. We can discuss the domain of the Slyvia Family at that time." Mary's face initially expressed happiness upon hearing these words from Danny. However, her expression quickly shifted to one of shock as she processed his last sentence.

At first, Mary considered feigning ignorance and asking what he meant by "the domain." But then she thought about how powerful he was, and since he already knew about it, she realized that lying would only sour their relationship.

"H-how did you know about the domain?" Mary asked, her voice quivering with a hint of unease.

"Every key that is guarded by an important person or is sought by a princess usually opens a door or at least something worthwhile. It cannot just be of sentimental value to your friend like you claimed before," Danny said with a knowing look. He continued, "I had already found the key when I defeated Count Nathan and also knew what it opened when I saw it.

I was planning to use it after the war ended, but then you came with the request. So, I've known about the domain for a while." Danny's words were calm and filled with a sense of understanding.

Mary was filled with mixed emotions. She was relieved that Danny had the key they had been searching for, but she couldn't shake the worry that he might reconsider his promise now that he understood the key's value.

Mary started to explain, "Please don't take offense, I was just..."

"Well, I would have taken offense if your friend hadn't gone to meet with Alex Mordrake, the King of the Isles to the east." Danny interrupted her with a smile and a knowing look.

Mary looked shocked once again, but her expression soon shifted to confusion. "Hadn't met?"

"Haha, yes. If your friend had gone to meet anyone else, I might have taken offense, thinking you were considering another force to back you up in case I didn't accept your request. But since she met Alex, who, by the way, is an acquaintance of mine, and accepted her request, I don't really care. Although I'm a little jealous, I'm happy he's getting a wife with an elf bloodline.

I can give the key to your friend as a wedding gift, but of course, I'd be happy to accompany her to the Domain when she goes there," Danny explained with a light-hearted tone and a small smile.

It was a series of shocking revelations for Mary. First, she learned that Danny was aware of their plan. Then came the surprise that Alex Mordrake was not only an acquaintance of Danny but also that he was going to marry Lisa, who was an elf, a piece of information she hadn't shared. These revelations left her in a state of bewilderment.

With a nod, Danny concluded the conversation. "Well then, let's meet again in the capital. I'll be heading there now, as I have quite a lot to take care of."

He then whistled to call Aquilla down from the sky.

Danny hopped onto Aquilla's back, and the mighty bird took off towards the Caragan Forest. His mission now was to ensure that Karakh's transition to leadership went smoothly. He needed to make certain that the returning Barbarians accepted Thor as their chief and respected Karakh as their leader in Thor's absence. Peace and stability were of utmost importance.

"Captain Mary, are you alright?" Rea had halted the pirates when she noticed Mary engrossed in conversation with Danny. As Danny departed, Rea approached Mary to inquire about her well-being, noticing her distracted gaze following the bird's receding figure.

"What? Ah, no, I'm fine. It's just that I'm feeling a little... confused," Mary replied, still seemingly lost in thought about a certain someone. Her feelings were in flux.

"Confused about what?" Rea probed.

"Ah, it's nothing important. Let's head back to camp. We have to leave for the capital tomorrow morning," Mary responded, brushing off the question with a wave of her hand. However, Rea couldn't help but feel that something was still bothering her captain. She would try to find out what it was as it was her duty and then report it her Lord.

The conflict with the Barbarians had concluded with a victory for the human forces, but the diligent and loyal soldiers understood that their work was far from over. They diligently distributed healing pills to the wounded individuals and Demon Beasts, providing first aid to those in critical condition.

Fortunately, the Demon Beasts, who had suffered minimal harm, were able to recover swiftly and, as a cohesive unit, they returned to the Caragan forest to safeguard the borders of Alex's territory against any potential threats.

. . .

In Thor's form, Alex entered the Barbarian Tribe's settlement and conveyed the news of their victory and Romethra's defeat at the hands of Danny Glover. He assured them that the shaman had been dealt with, which elicited a mix of shock and relief from the tribesmen.

With his orders given, Thor informed Karakh and Norakh that he would rest in Romethra's previous wooden house. He emphasized the need for privacy and instructed them not to enter without permission. They acknowledged his orders with seriousness.

The defeated army of Romethra Anthral was still some distance away from returning to the settlement. Thor had some time before their arrival, so he decided to swap with his puppet and return to where his wives were. It was a well-deserved moment of relaxation with his loved ones until the returning army required his attention.
