Chapter 1250 NEW ROOMMATE
Chapter 1250 NEW ROOMMATE
LUO YAN closed the closet after putting away all his clothes. His father and brothers had insisted on helping him unpack, even suggesting they accompany him to complete registration at his department. But he told them he would be fine. If he didn't put his foot down, they would probably still be here by evening. No, they might even insist on spending the night if he didn't stop them. Thankfully, after much convincing, he finally managed to make them leave.
He placed his laptop on the study table and sat down on his bed. His gaze drifted around the quiet room, and suddenly, the loneliness hit him. Without his father's doting care, without Luo Ren's gentle reminders, without Luo Jin's endearing nagging, he felt the weight of their absence all at once. He already missed home. He shook his head and let out a quiet laugh. It just proved how much those three had come to mean to him.
Luo Yan took a deep breath to push away the sudden loneliness. There was no time for this. He still had to complete registration. Besides, he would only be here for a month during military training. After that, he would stay at Uncle Chen's house. With his cousins around, would he even have time to feel lonely? And it wasn't like he couldn't call home whenever he wanted. Even if he did stay on campus, he knew Shen Ji Yun would never let him feel alone.
He stood up, planning to go out. His gaze landed on the other empty bed. He wondered who his roommate would be. He just hoped he would be lucky like in his previous life and get a good roommate. Even an ordinary one would be fine, as long as they weren't troublesome.
Then, as if on cue, the door to the room opened and a young man walked in. His black hair was slightly messy, as if he'd just rolled out of bed, and a pair of oversized glasses slid down the bridge of his nose. Baggy clothes hung loosely on his frame, but there was something oddly endearing about him. Like a warm, approachable energy that softened his otherwise disheveled appearance. In one hand, he carried a box, and in the other, he dragged a suitcase behind him.
The other paused when he noticed Luo Yan, but only for a moment. A friendly smile immediately spread across his face.
"Hi, you must be my roommate," he said, walking to the empty bed and setting down the box he carried. He stopped in front of Luo Yan and extended his hand. "I'm Zhen Yihan."
Zhen? That was a pretty rare surname. He only knew of one other person who had that last name. One of his former roommates, Zhen Wenyu. Could these two possibly be related somehow?
He nearly laughed at his own thoughts. It would be too much of a coincidence if that were actually true. Smiling at his new roommate, he shook the other's hand. "I'm Luo Yan. Nice to meet you."
He expected Zhen Yihan to let go of his hand by now, but the other kept holding it, his eyes fixed on Luo Yan. As if scrutinizing every part of his face.
He didn't think much of it and simply asked, "Is something wrong?"
In response, Zhen Yihan's eyes went wide. "Oh my god!" he nearly shouted. "You're Noctis!"
"Guilty as charged," Luo Yan replied with a helpless smile.
"I'm so blind! How could I not recognize you right away? I'm a huge fan of Yunyue! And congratulations on winning the Arcadia Cup. You guys were incredible! Especially you, Noctis. You were truly the MVP in the finals against Celestials."
Zhen Yihan kept talking, explaining how he never believed the rumors about Yunyue cheating. He looked genuinely upset, almost as if he'd been the one personally hurt by the accusations against the team. Luo Yan couldn't help but feel quietly amused. There was something endearing about the way the other boy rambled on, very earnest and unfiltered.
Luo Yan smiled at Zhen Yihan, feeling glad the other was his roommate. "Thank you. But please, just call me Luo Yan or Xiao Yan. Being called Noctis outside the game feels a little awkward."
"Of course," Zhen Yihan said quickly, a shy smile spreading across his face. "Then I'll call you Xiao Yan. Oh, and you can just call me Xiao Han too."
"Xiao Han," Luo Yan called, watching the other's face turn shy. "Do you need help with unpacking?"
Zhen Yihan looked like he wanted to say no at first, maybe thinking he shouldn't trouble him. But in the end, he just nodded shyly. "If you don't mind."
Luo Yan only smiled. "I don't mind."
Then, he started helping Zhen Yihan unpack. He shook out the folded bedsheets and helped smooth them over the mattress, tucking the corners neatly. Together, they arranged the pillows and unfolded the blanket. Luo Yan stacked books on the desk while Zhen Yihan sorted through his smaller belongings.
"By the way, what's your major, Xiao Yan?" Zhen Yihan asked.
"Computer science. You?"
"Animation," Zhen Yihan answered, grinning with obvious pride.
Luo Yan said lightly, "If I ever make a game someday, maybe I'll ask you to handle the animations."
Zhen Yihan's eyes lit up. "I'd love that! No take backs, okay?"
The two of them kept chatting as they worked. Once they finished unpacking, they decided to head to their department buildings to complete registration. Since their majors were in buildings close to each other, they agreed to walk together.
As they walked, Luo Yan noticed some students looking at him. They probably recognized him as Noctis. It felt different from when he had been with his father and brothers earlier. With them around, people tended to notice them first. But at least no one came up to him. Not that he expected them to. He's not some big time celebrity after all. He just preferred it this way and hoped that it continued on.
They first arrived at the main building where the Department of Computer Science & Technology were. He bid goodbye to Zhen Yihan, promising to have dinner together, before heading towards the building.
