Chapter 1270: THREE DAYS LATER
Chapter 1270: THREE DAYS LATER
LUO YAN looked at Yu Jiao, who was watching him with hopeful eyes. He sighed to himself. He didn't want to let her down. After all, it must have taken a great deal of courage for Yu Jiao to reach out to him. But answering her question would be almost the same as telling her directly that his brother did have feelings for her.
Even if he wanted to help them get together, he didn't want to just tell them what to do. Especially when it came to their feelings. He believed it would be better if the two actually talked it out between themselves.
So, after weighing his options, he finally made up his mind about how to handle the situation.
"Jiao Jiao," he began, speaking in a gentle yet firm tone. "I understand why you're asking me this. You're confused and you trust me, and I truly wish I could give you a simple answer." He ran a hand through his hair, considering his words. "But speaking for my brother, trying to guess what he feels... it doesn't feel right to me. It would be like crossing a line, and that wouldn't be fair to him or to you." He looked at her directly, his face showing both regret and determination. "I'm really sorry I can't be more helpful right now."
Yu Jiao felt a pang of disappointment at first. She had really hoped Luo Yan could shed some light on things. In fact, she had been counting on it, which was probably why the disappointment felt more intense. But as she thought about it, she realized Luo Yan had a valid point. What if he had assumed Luo Ren's feelings and been wrong? No matter how close the brothers were, that didn't mean Luo Yan could automatically know exactly what his brother felt in his heart.
"No, it's fine. I'm the one who should apologize for suddenly dumping all this on you," she said, her voice sincere and a little embarrassed. "It wasn't fair of me to put you in that position."
If only she understood human emotions and social interactions better, then maybe she would not have to rely on someone else to sort through her own confusion. Now she had gone and put Luo Yan in a tough spot, making him uncomfortable when he was just trying to be a good friend. The thought made her feel even more embarrassed about the whole situation.
Seeing Yu Jiao's dejected expression, Luo Yan felt a twinge of guilt. He quickly reassured her, "Really, it's okay. You don't need to apologize. You have done nothing wrong, Jiao Jiao."
Yu Jiao raised her head to look at Luo Yan. Seeing his sincere expression made her feel slightly better. "But still," she insisted softly.
"No buts. This really isn't a big deal, so you honestly don't need to worry about it," Luo Yan reassured her. "But since I'm here, let me offer some unsolicited advice. Sometimes things happen without any clear reason. When they do, following your heart is usually the best way forward."
"Following my heart," Yu Jiao mumbled, repeating the words to herself.

Three days later...
Luo Yan woke up to the buzzing of his phone alarm. He felt around the bed until he found it and turned it off. His eyes were still closed but his mind was already alert. He sat up slowly, yawning as he gradually opened his eyes. The room was still quite dark with very little light coming in. This made sense since it was only 5:30 in the morning.
He got out of bed and glanced at the other side of the room. Zhen Yihan was curled up in a tight ball, completely buried under his blanket. Luo Yan chuckled quietly at his roommate's sleeping posture. He picked up his toiletry bag, then carefully opened their dorm room door, making as little noise as possible to avoid disturbing Zhen Yihan's sleep. He headed out into the hallway toward the shared bathroom that served their dormitory wing. This setup was common in older university dorms, where several rooms shared one large bathroom facility.
Today marked the beginning of military training. Having gone through this before in his previous life, he knew it was smarter to brush his teeth and wash his face now, before other students filled the bathroom. Since most people would rush to use the sinks later, he wanted to avoid the morning crowd and the struggle to find a free spot.
Since it was only the first day, they would probably spend most of the morning at the opening ceremony before being divided into their platoons. He hoped the students placed in the same squad as him would not cause any trouble. He really wanted this military training to end with no problems.
He reached the shared bathroom and opened the door. The room was large and tiled from floor to ceiling. A row of sinks with mirrors above them lined one wall, while individual shower stalls stood along another. On the opposite side were several enclosed toilet stalls. The air smelled faintly of cleaning products and dampness. At this early hour, the room was empty and quiet, with only the hum of ventilation breaking the silence.
As Luo Yan began brushing his teeth, his mind drifted back to his conversation with Yu Jiao. After he had given her that piece of advice, she seemed to have a sudden moment of understanding. He hoped that what he said had been helpful to her in some way.
He had honestly considered telling Luo Ren about their conversation, but he decided against it. He knew it would not actually help either of them. It was better for them to work things out between themselves and move forward at their own speed.
After brushing his teeth, Luo Yan washed his face. He then returned to his dorm room. After applying some basic skincare, he changed into the uniform provided to all students for the military training.
He stood in front of the full-length mirror attached to the wall to check his appearance.
