Chapter 1273: DAY ONE OF MILITARY TRAINING (III)
IN the end, they ate their lunch under a large tree that stood a short distance from the sports field. The spot was quiet and mostly hidden from the other students. It was located behind a teaching building, which allowed Luo Yan to stop there first and change out of his sweaty uniform shirt.
Shen Ji Yun spread out a picnic blanket on the ground. He then opened the insulated lunch bag he had brought. Inside were several containers holding the meal he prepared. There was steamed chicken breast, a large portion of stir-fried broccoli and carrots, and a container of white rice. He also unpacked two hard-boiled eggs and a container of fresh fruit salad. Finally, he placed a large thermos of honey lemon water on the blanket, knowing it would help with hydration and energy after the intense morning drills.
Luo Yan stared at the impressive array of containers covering the blanket. He felt a wave of conflicting emotions. He was genuinely moved by the obvious effort and care Shen Ji Yun had taken. At the same time, he was taken aback by the sheer quantity of food laid out before him. It looked like enough to feed three or four people.
"Brother Ji Yun, can we really going to finish all of this food?" he asked.
"Don't worry about it," Shen Ji Yun reassured him. "I'll take home anything that's left over. Just eat as much as you want."
This reassurance eased Luo Yan's mind because he hated throwing away good food. "Should we eat then?"
Shen Ji Yun handed Luo Yan a pair of chopsticks. He then passed him a small ceramic bowl. He opened the main food containers and placed them within easy reach between the two of them.
Luo Yan looked at the small bowl in his hands. It was a proper ceramic bowl, not a disposable container. Using it here, under a tree, felt strangely domestic. It was as if they were having a meal at home instead of eating outside. He picked up the serving spoon and put a portion of rice into his bowl. Then he added some pieces of chicken and a generous serving of vegetables.
He took his first bite of the chicken and rice. The flavors were simple but very good. The chicken was tender and well seasoned. The vegetables were fresh and still had a nice crispness to them. It was exactly the kind of satisfying and wholesome meal he needed after the difficult morning. He ate more quickly than he had planned because it tasted so good.
Shen Ji Yun watched Luo Yan enjoy the food. A small smile appeared on his face. He felt happy to see that the other clearly liked the meal he had prepared. This simple satisfaction made his own food taste better, and he ate with a light heart.
"But Brother Ji Yun, why did you suddenly think of bringing me lunch?" Luo Yan asked after a while.
Shen Ji Yun looked at him with a soft expression. "It is your first day of military training," he explained. "As your boyfriend, I wanted to be here to support you. Bringing you a good meal seemed like the best way I could help."
Luo Yan felt a warm happiness spread through his chest. The simple, honest reason made him feel deeply cared for. He was reminded once again how lucky he was to have Shen Ji Yun. The food tasted even more delicious not that he knew it was prepared with him in mind.
"Thank you, Brother Ji Yun," Luo Yan said, a wide grin spreading across his face. "You really are the best!"
He noticed a light blush spread across Shen Ji Yun's cheeks. He found it adorable how the other would always get so flustered from a simple compliment.
Shen Ji Yun cleared his throat, trying to shift the conversation. "How are you handling the training so far? Is anything giving you trouble?"
"It's difficult, I won't lie," Luo Yan admitted with a small shrug. "My body is sore and the drills are tiring. But it's manageable. I can handle it."
Shen Ji Yun looked at Luo Yan, his expression softening with concern. He hated seeing the other so worn out. A part of him wished he could take Luo Yan's place in the drills, knowing the training would only get harder from here. But he knew that's impossible.
"Would you like me to give you a massage later?" Shen Ji Yun asked, his voice soft. "I can go to your dorm room."
Luo Yan laughed lightly, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "Oh no. As much as I would love that, I think we'd give my roommate a heart attack if he walked in and saw the great YUN himself giving me a massage."
Shen Ji Yun nodded in understanding. Since Zhen Yihan was someone who knew his gaming persona, seeing him act so intimately with Luo Yan would probably be an enormous shock.
"But if you offer again over the weekend, I'll definitely say yes," Luo Yan added with a playful grin. "As long as we're somewhere completely private, with just the two of us."
The mention of them being alone immediately brought back memories of what they had done in his room a few nights before. Shen Ji Yun felt his face grow warm. His heart started beating a little faster. He quickly focused on his food, keeping his eyes down so Luo Yan would not see his reaction.
But Luo Yan did notice the sudden change in his expression. A knowing, mischievous smile slowly spread across Luo Yan's lips. He leaned forward slightly, his voice dropping to a teasing tone. "What exactly are you thinking about right now, Brother Ji Yun?"
"Nothing," Shen Ji Yun replied a little too quickly.
Luo Yan's voice dropped to a low, suggestive tone. "And here I thought you were remembering that very hot... very sweaty... night we spent together."
Shen Ji Yun had just drank water when he heard what Luo Yan said. The water seemed to have gone the wrong pipe, and he coughed uncontrollably. His entire face turning red, either from choking or from embarrassment.
"Yan Yan!"
Luo Yan laughed. Really, so adorable.
