Chapter 833: Dark World. (2)
Ten minutes after their arrival, someone had appeared in front of them, a figure towering over Alan at a height of four meters. He had a bulky figure, but one couldn't figure out what race he belonged too because of the magical cloak.
He bowed as he urged everyone to follow him. Alan and the rest obliged, walking behind the man. The man led them away from the town square, further and further into the city. During this time, they had no choice but to remain silent, like the entire city.
The lights, and the multitudes of people walking beside them, never released a sound. Even the shops, bustling with people... but never a single sound. It was eerie and depressing, especially to them.
It couldn't be helped, true silence like this was unprecedented. Even when one fell asleep, their bodies produced sound, the surrounding environment produced sound, no matter what, sound always existed in their lives, and now they were deprived of it.
They didn't notice it when they arrived in this world, anxious and excited to see a new world and study it, but when they began their journey to their lodgings, it finally hit them.
They couldn't hear themselves breathe, they couldn't hear themselves walk, they couldn't hear the ruffle of their clothes, they couldn't hear the beating of their hearts, they couldn't hear themselves gulp in trepidation.
It was the complete opposite of a sensory overload, it was a complete lack of it. Humans, and every other species with the five senses overlooked the sense of hearing, after all, when you could see the entire world with your eyes, with the sense of vision, one overlooked their senses of hearing.
They could see, they could taste, they could feel themselves walking on the earth, but when it was all accompanied by no sound, no sort of vibration at all… it was disorienting. Incredibly disorienting. Their sense of reality was shifting apart.
Maxwell was the first to fall, only to be supported by Alexander, who could somehow keep up. The next was Emma, and she was supported by Edward, desperately struggling in this environment. The ones to follow were Alice, Olivia, and Sabrina. Kazikato held on to the three of them, but even he was barely able to keep up.
It was only when Alan had spread out his own mana to manually support each of them that they were able to continue travelling at a normal pace. The man at the front had slowed down when each of them started to fall, and even the people beside them had come closer in order to help, but Alan had reached them first.
It wasn't like he wasn't being affected by the lack of sound, He was, it was disorienting to him as well, he had just torn off his tongue to fulfill the void left by the lack of sound with pain. He had then reinforced his senses with Mana Sense, which made him feel alright in this environment.
He had wanted to tell Sabrina the method to prevent this, by causing some pain, but even the Astral Bond was useless here. It was blocked, like all other forms of communication. Though he didn't think none of them would have figured it out by now.
Well... even if they did, he didn't have any of them would be crazy enough to bite clean through their tongue with their teeth like him. His regeneration had definitely helped him with that decision.
So much so that he kept doing it... just to keep the pain constant.
But not even a single prick? He didn't know everyone in his party were that afraid of pain.
After a while, they had arrived at what appeared to be an Inn, with a door so short that Alan would have to crawl through to fit, let alone the giant of a man leading them. Alan was glad they had reached their destination... since he was running out of space in his mouth.
However, how were they supposed to fit through that door?
'Oh, that's how...'
Alan watched in amazement as the materials the door had been made out of turned to a viscous liquid and expanded enough to fit the size of the man, and everyone else as well. The man urged them in, waiting in the doorway.
Everyone else entered, guided by Alan, and waited for the man to proceed. Alan realized by then that they were actually in an elevator. The door closed, and he could feel a sort of spatial magic being used to transport them somewhere. It was slower than a portal, but it had the effects of decreasing and increasing the space surrounding an object.
'Interesting...'
Though he didn't find a particular use for it, it was nice to know. He wondered why they went through the hassle of all this and not just set up a portal...
The movement stopped, and the door opened up, leading to a lounge in a villa some distance away from the port. The man entered first, and they followed. The moment they had entered, the lack of sound disappeared, and everyone could hear everything again.
"You are free to do as you please in private residences."
He turned to Alan and bowed deeply, before leaving. Everyone collapsed to the ground, as Alan looked around the medieval themed lounge for a trash bin.
"How did you... How did you manage to get through that?"
Alexander asked, barely managing to stand. Alan found the trash bin and emptied out the contents of his mouth.
"I just bit through my tongue a couple of times, the sense of pain kept me going."
Alexander's eyes drowned in horror as he saw multiple tongues being dropped into the trash bin, and his stomach couldn't handle it any longer.
"You... you crazy fuck! Blergh!"
He vomited everything he had in his stomach, along with everybody else. The lack of sound may have been one thing, but the harrowing sight of six tongues being dropped into the trash along with mouthfuls of blood had been the tipping point.
Alan looked at them all emptying the contents of their stomach with disgust, and said.
"Ew, all of you have weak stomachs. At least don't vomit on the damn floor..."
He picked up the trash bin and pointed it at them, which made the situation even worse.
