Chapter 947: The Abyss.

The abandoned mine did not contain any dangers, except for the smoke and toxic environment, much to Alpha’s pleasure. She was relieved that no outstanding demonic beast would be present to end their journey before it even began.

But if one was present, she would be sure to sacrifice her life for her mistress, her brother as well, if a need did arise. She was proud in proclaiming it as well, although Sabrina simply shrugged her shoulders at this.

Rolling her eyes, she ignored Alpha, and entered the supposed exit of the mine, as her mana sense told her.

She had to use a lot of spells to even see anything in this room, the toxic smoke was simply too thick, almost akin to a solid barrier meant to keep others away. Sabrina raised her eyes as she examined the room, and the tunnel leading up in one corner.

‘Markings?’

She questioned, noticing the markings on the wall, it wasn’t an elaborate piece of art, nor was it anything even close to the sort. It was simply lines, lines along one another to signify how much time had passed. Like how prisoners would carve single lines into the wall, each representing a day.

‘Was someone held captive here…? Never mind…’

She was about to question, but then realized the true nature of the mine, this was a slave mine, everyone here except for a small few was a prisoner. She hoped her father wasn’t in a similar place.

“I guess this was the one that made it out, but that still doesn’t explain the smoke…”

She muttered to herself, arriving at the tunnel that led up. She theorized that whoever was held captive here had dug a tunnel to escape. How it was done she had no clue, and why it was never found out as well… perhaps the prisoner was desperate to escape the smoke that slowly killed the others.

But the concentration of the toxin led her to another conclusion, maybe the prisoner himself was the cause the mine was abandoned. Sabrina decided to not pursue it any further, focusing on getting out of this damned place.

Beta entered the tunnel before her, as a precautionary measure and Sabrina and Alpha followed respectively. While nothing compared to Alan, Beta was still a physical beast that could deal with any threat for a prolonged period of time, enough for Alpha and Sabrina to support him with spells.

Sabrina chuckled.

“This reminds me… Alan and I also had to travel through a tunnel on the planet where I found you two, although that one was much more cramped.”

Her cheeks reddened slightly as she recalled that memory, a detail that Alpha did not miss, but she remained quiet about it. An hour or two passed as they traversed the tunnel, and finally, with a mighty kick, Beta created an opening large enough for him to pass.

He climbed up first, and extended his hand, helping Sabrina and Alpha up.

“Thank you.”

Sabrina said, to which Beta bowed his head. She scanned the environment around herself, and scoffed.

“Ugh…”

The miasma here was thick, corrupted mana that gave rise to a fog. Due to her now being a Demon, a Royal Vampire at that, it did not actually do anything to her, but as a Human being who had lived in a sheltered environment all her life… it was disgusting.

The average demon, who was born in the Abyss, would not mind it this much, but to Sabrina… it was an entirely different matter.

“Is everywhere like this?”

She dreaded the thought. She didn’t want to get used to this disgusting feeling. Thankfully, Alpha assured her that this was not the case.

“This is simply a high density miasma region, Your Grace.”

Sabrina nodded, and pulled out her medallion, the one she got from the House of Death. For some odd reason, Maxwell had asked her for it, but due to her mission, she had to decline. She did wonder what purpose he needed it for… but she simply could not part with it.

The Medallion was a treasure that could not be bought by any means. A priceless artifact that had many, many uses. Not only was it a bank account, but it was also a form of identification, a shield that could protect her.

Although the Medallion was capable of becoming any form of identification recognized anywhere, in the Abyss, where the House of Death had a positive influence, it was a shield unlike any other, one she could use to protect herself. Of course, that is, if she revealed it’s true form.

But other than that, it could also become a map, one that could familiarize itself with any surroundings. It was the most crucial thing in this mission of hers.

A guide, a shield, and most importantly… money! The Medallion had a feature that made it able to exchange currencies! While this was only possible with currencies recognized by the Alliance, Celestial Coins, and Demonic Dibble, Sadly, her human wealth could not be realized in the Abyss.

However, the medallion already came equipped with a sizeable amount of wealth in Demonic Dibble, the currency used in recognized territories of the Abyss, but if she was being honest, she didn’t feel like she would need it a lot.

Demonic Dibble, the currency used in the Abyss, was merely something common demons used, and to a certain extent, prideful nobility also used it, but anything with value went in the abyss.

Dwarven and Elven currencies especially, Demon lords and other demons prized those two. Dwarven gold, and Elven arcane coin, was exceptionally valuable. However, since the Medallion came from the house of Death, Elven arcane coin and Demonic Dibble was in majority.

The House of Death had a bad relationship with the Dwarves, it wasn’t terrible, but the Dwarves constant pursuit of creating another masterpiece like Vulcan, as well their pursuit of eternal life and disregard for flesh over mechanical precision often collided with the Values of the Church Of Darkness.

Nevertheless, even in this foreign land, Sabrina was well-equipped, without Harrison’s help.

A faint smile appeared on her face, as she checked the Medallion, in order to find her location. The smile disappeared the moment she found out.
