The Villain's Story

Chapter 958: The secrets of Null.

Chapter 958: The secrets of Null.

[It is an affinity originating from a Universe other than ours. One that dominates that specific universe. It appearing within your friend simply means the Weave is beginning to recognize the affinity and spread it.

In short, your friend is a test subject for the Weave, which is studying this affinity.]

Alan rephrased to Alexander, leaving the last bit out. He didn’t want to hurt his friend’s feeling.

[Much like how our bastard of a Creator wishes to become the greatest universe and one or above with the weave, the creator of that universe had a goal too. Our’s created the three progenitors to wage war, while that one… was simply uninterested in anything, fascinated by nothing.

Nothingness as a concept. The Universal conscience of that universe became the place of birth for the [Null] affinity, and slowly, Nothingness consumed everything, and eventually, the Universal Conscience became Nothingness. It’s a bit of a difficult thing to understand.

Simply put, it is another element, with advantages and disadvantages. Since it’s new, nobody knows what will happen. Although rest assured, the Weave has countermeasures in place… probably.]

‘Probably? What do you mean by probably?’

[The effects of Null will be studied by the Weave, and there is no telling what it will allow or not… Although, considering the Weave isolated that universe in particular, he should be safe.

Or perhaps his [Null] affinity will be the catalyst for his growth, whether he remains himself after is unknown.]

Skeptical, Alan explained it all to Alexander, basically repeating Valus’s words, although he left some stuff out, in order to not crush Alexander’s spirits, although in the end, it was still all for naught.

Alexander sighed.

“So there’s nothing I can do about it…”

He rubbed his forehead, as Alan said.

“Not really? Just try to learn more about it as you use it. If it gets too much, just stop using it. Your lightning and wind are enough. Maybe save it for a trump card?”

Alexander didn’t respond. Alan could tell he was slumped, who wouldn’t be? He was just told there was no way to stop the demerits of his Unique affinity. The one he took a lot of pride in.

However, Alan was stumped, he had no idea how to pacify his friend. Now, if it was a time where he was still afraid of his Chaos Affinity, he might have an idea… but not now. Alan didn’t face this kind of issue anymore.

Alan was perfectly in sync with all his affinities. Ice, Darkness, Shadow, and even chaos now with the training he did with Valus. Although he would still find it hard to use on Earth unless he was forced too, of course.

Death was the only ambiguous one, and Alan had no idea where to even proceed in that direction. Alan wasn’t the best at placating others, although he did know of some magic for that.

Though he refrained from using said magic. Eventually, he learned that he did not need to do anything at all, as Alexander suddenly stood up and exclaimed.

“AH! Damn it! I’ll just think about it when I need to think about it!”

Alan smirked, truly it was a response worthy of a student of the Sword Saint. Deal with it when you have to deal with it! Or in other words, ignore it until you can’t!

With a beaming face, Alexander looked at Alan, and asked.

“Wanna get drunk?”

“I don’t think we can get drunk.”

“Wanna have some fun?”

“What about your date with Olivia?”

“The ship has already sailed mate… I think it’s best if I postpone it for a bit.”

Alexander muttered, with a sad expression. He perked up when Alan agreed and they left soon after. Unfortunately, there really wasn’t anything fun other than eating food and drinking any kind of alcohol they could find that would hopefully get them drunk.

Alan was unable to get drunk at all, certainly for the better, as no one wanted a drunk SSS-rank around. His body, his genetics, bloodline and lineage were unable to be influenced by mere mortal wine.

Alexander wasn’t the same, however, he could somewhat offset his body’s special defenses, and get drunk. Although, it was only for a short period of time. The two boys simply stopped trying, and just tried to have fun. The days went by quickly, and then, the fated day of the invasion arrived.

Monsters, thousands upon thousands of weak monsters, emerged from the horizon, barreling towards the city in a mad frenzy. They were all of different kinds, and the only thing they had in mind was to devour the human city in front of them.

On top of the walls, the numerous awakened forces belonging to the city chatted away. They would be the first to be deployed. Awakened would simply jump off the walls and take care of the monsters, if any could get through, they would have to go through a second line, and if they got through that.

The cannons would fire upon them, ending any. Of course, sometimes, the monsters were simply too numerous, and broke in certain areas, but that was hardly a concern. The areas worth defending had never been breached.

Thousands of awakened individuals stood atop the walls, near elevators that would bring them down. Most of them belonged to Titan, with the rest belonging to the Association and World Government, although quite a lot of Behemoth’s awakened were present as well.

As Alan stood near the edge of the wall, whistling at the approaching monsters. The members of Twilight looked nervous behind him. They were new recruits that although talented, only had to deal with dungeons, not a monster wave.

As the order to descend was coming, Alan turned his head, looking at a rather confident person approach the Twilight camp.

“Would you be interested in a bet?”

Amanda Wells asked, extending her hand with a smile. Behind Alan, Alexander simply shook his head, having lost a bet made prior. He had to fork up a good chunk of his salary now…

“What kind of bet?”

Alan asked, with an even brighter smile on his face.
