Chapter 1061: Skipping the Qualification Test

The three silver-armored fish-men continued to approach Vaan until they were ten feet away before two of them stopped to guard the perimeters. Only the leading fish-man continued a bit further until he was within an appropriate talking distance, which was also not too close to make Vaan feel wary of his unclear intentions.

The leading fish-man shortly stabbed his silver spear into the ground and took off his protective helmet, lowering his defense to make himself seem more approachable and friendly.

"I am an Outer Palace disciple of the Myriad Sea God Palace and the Deacon in charge of guiding new disciples of the Proteus Faction, Quintus of the renowned Dexion Household. Other disciples refer to me as Deacon Quintus. How may I address you, Sir?"

Vaan was immediately impressed by Deacon Quintus’s introduction, not because of his courtesy but because he understood every word.

It was quite clear that Deacon Quintus had spoken in an unfamiliar language commonly used in the Myriad Sea God Palace. However, a powerful governing law automatically injected information into his brain, allowing him to understand every word perfectly.

Even if Vaan didn’t actively learn the language via the traditional ways, he would still pick it up very quickly simply by communicating with other beings in the Myriad Sea God Palace.

Thanks to this powerful and convenient governing law of language acting in place, the communication barrier that should have existed was completely eliminated.

"You can just call me Vaan, Deacon Quintus," Vaan replied, not bothering to introduce his family name.

The Temple Spirit had informed Vaan beforehand that it was taboo for a new disciple to bring their family name into the Myriad Sea God Palace. After all, to possess a family name was proof of one’s status.

As such, new disciples had to prove themselves before they could regain their family names or receive new ones.

"So it’s Sir Vaan," Deacon Quintus acknowledged with a friendly smile before saying, "It seems you have been informed of our customs. However, there is no need for an illustrious being such as yourself to follow it."

Indeed, Noble Beings were usually born into very prominent and powerful families. Who would dare deprive them of their family name?

Unfortunately, Vaan didn’t have the backing of such families.

"As a new disciple, I intend to work my way up from the bottom just like everyone and prove to everyone with my own capabilities. There’s no need to give me special treatment, Deacon Quintus," Vaan stated humbly.

Although he desired the special privilege, protection, and resources granted to Noble Beings, there was no need to accept it right away, not until he learned more about the Myriad Sea God Palace’s situation.

After all, there was no free lunch in the world. Surely, the special treatment given to Noble Beings came with certain responsibilities, restrictions, and troubles.

"It’s great that you think that way, Sir Vaan," Deacon Quintus sighed with relief, which attracted Vaan’s attention.

"Oh? Why is that, Deacon Quintus?" Vaan asked as Deacon Quintus led him out of the large amphitheater.

"Normally, the Myriad Sea God Palace only receives about ten Noble Beings every million years. However, in the past thousand years, eight Noble Beings have already enlisted for learning. With the addition of Sir Vaan, it will become nine. Such a thing is unprecedented in history," Deacon Quintus explained.

Vaan immediately understood the crux of the problem after listening to Deacon Quintus.

While an increase in Noble Beings was a good thing for the Myriad Sea God Palace, the same could not be said for the Noble Beings themselves. The increased number of Noble Beings would only lead to further division of attention, protection, and resources.

In other words, the competition among the Noble Beings would be quite intense compared to the past.

"I see," Vaan uttered thoughtfully.

"However, I must warn you, Sir Vaan. Even if you don’t intend to compete with the other Noble Beings for the Myriad Sea God Palace’s special privileges and grants, the other Noble Beings might still not leave you alone," Deacon Quintus reminded out of consideration. RάΝꝋ₿Εꞩ

"Thank you for your concern, Deacon Quintus," Vaan said.

After leaving the large amphitheater, Vaan found himself on a stone aqueduct-like bridge stretching for dozens of kilometers into the distance. It also carried a stream of bluer water.

Rather, it appeared to be closer to normal salty seawater with its higher density and resistance, unlike the clear, air-like seawater that filled the rest of the world.

It wasn’t hard to guess its usage; it was a type of express transportation.

Fish-men would be able to travel much faster swimming through its water channel than anywhere else.

After all, with the world’s powerful gravity weighing down on all things, the fish-men on the seafloor were no different from humans on land.

Unless special abilities, magic, or laws were utilized, only extremely powerful fish-men or marine life would be able to swim in the vast, clear sky-like sea.

Vaan figured the numerous blue-glowing whales he could spot far above him were all at least Divine Lord-level sea creatures.

Beneath the aqueduct bridge, millions of fish-men appeared to be queuing in a long line that stretched from the eastern horizon.

Vaan curiously followed the direction of their headings and glanced to the west, where a valley leading into a vast range of seamounts could be seen. Irregular tremors persistently resounded from beyond its rocky walls.

"These fish-men are queuing to take the qualification tests to join the Outer Palace. However, that is not something Sir Vaan needs to worry about since you arrived through a Gate of Inheritance. As an in-name disciple of Sea God Proteus, you can bypass the qualification test and enroll in the Outer Palace directly," Deacon Quintus stated.

As they interacted, Deacon Quintus began to have some doubts regarding Vaan’s identity.

Generally, everyone who could become in-name disciples of Sea God Proteus through the inheritance sites would be around Divine Lord-level beings. However, Deacon Quintus did not feel such a level of power from Vaan.

But then again, Deacon Quintus figured Vaan might have borrowed his family’s influence to pass Sea God Proteus’ inheritance trial, not to mention he was also a Noble Being. As such, the inheritance trial might not have been difficult at all, even without the help of his family power.

Still, it was the first time he had encountered a Noble Being entering the Myriad Sea God Palace through a Gate of Inheritance.

Although Deacon Quintus had his doubts, they were something he could only keep to himself.

"Come, I’ll take you to the Enrollment Hall now, Sir Vaan."

"Alright."
