Chapter 1224: Dead Lands in the North, Crystal Nest in the South
Chapter 1224: Dead Lands in the North, Crystal Nest in the South
When Vaan’s group heard about the Proud Ember Tribe’s situation, they couldn’t help but have a vague suspicion.
The Proud Ember Tribe had been safe for three hundred years.
Such a short period couldn’t be considered long in Chaos. It would pass in the blink of an eye. But given the various uncertainties and dangers of the Umbral Edge, three hundred years of peaceful living was actually quite impressive and long.
Thus, for the Proud Ember Tribe’s disaster to align with their arrival seemed to be more than just a coincidence.
Did their arrival actually attract Undying Fiend Patrols to this particular void region and ultimately cause a disaster for the Proud Ember Tribe?
Whether it was Vaan, Empyrean Oceanheart, or Seraphina, they simultaneously had the same thoughts. When they glanced at each other and saw through each other’s thoughts, it strengthened their suspicion.
Nevertheless, none of them brought up this topic.
"Do the Undying Fiends regularly patrol other void regions?" Vaan inquired curiously, noticing this detail.
"That’s right, Your Excellency." Divine Lord Vaelith nodded in confirmation and added, "About four light-years from here is the territory of the Dead Lands, with very high activity of Undying Fiend Patrols."
Vaan’s gaze followed Divine Lord Vaelith’s pointed direction and confirmed it was indeed toward the concentrated shelter region.
Although four light-years away could be considered rather close, the distance could also be considered equally very far. After all, four light-years was equivalent to roughly 37.8 trillion kilometers.
Such a vast distance would be rarely crossed unless someone had a purpose for doing so.
It was no wonder that the Proud Ember Tribe had been able to safely develop for the past three hundred years without issue. While they were situated close to the patrolled region, they were still outside it.
Unfortunately, now that disaster had finally struck them, the situation was no longer the same as it was in the past.
Although Vaan suspected the Undying Fiends’ attack on the Proud Ember Tribe was related to their arrival, there was still the possibility of the Undying Fiends expanding their patrolling region.
Neither possibilities were not good news.
"How much do you know about these Undying Fiends?" Empyrean Oceanheart asked with a solemn flair.
"To be honest, not much, Your Divinity," Divine Lord Vaelith replied honestly, feeling somewhat ashamed.
The Undying Fiends had always been the Proud Ember Tribe’s biggest threat for hundreds of years. But despite their past encounters, not much information could be gained from them.
After all, the Undying Fiends were too troublesome to deal with due to their undying nature. Moreover, they were never alone.
Thus, it was difficult to study them.
"As far as we know, all beings in the Dead Lands, whether dead or alive, would eventually turn into Undying Fiends. However, this process isn’t immediate; it’s gradual. Moreover, the early signs are obvious."
"Unfortunately, there’s no cure. Once shows signs of the infection, then their fate is as good as sealed."
Divine Lord Vaelith sighed sadly, recalling the past comrades he had to abandon due to their infection.
Meanwhile, Empyrean Oceanheart nodded.
What Divine Lord Vaelith described was exactly how she understood the corruption process. As such, she confirmed the Undying Fiends were truly advanced-staged Corrupted Beings.
She didn’t expect that they would become so troublesome to deal with.
The Myriad Sea God Palace’s corruption problem had to be swiftly dealt with. Otherwise, if they delayed too much and allowed undiscovered Corrupted Beings to advance to Undying Fiends, the problem would become far more difficult to resolve. ŔαNꝋ₿Еš
Through their inquiries, Vaan’s group learned more about the Proud Ember Tribe’s accumulated experiences in the Umbral Edge.
Just like the survivors from the previous shelter, the Proud Ember Tribe’s earliest survivors had also arrived in the Umbral Edge roughly seven hundred years ago, dragged inside by an overwhelming gravitational pull that transcended spacetime.
"Since the Dead Lands are so dangerous, why does your Proud Ember Tribe stay so close? Have you not tried to escape to other regions, or maybe even the Umbral Edge?" Seraphina asked curiously.
Divine Lord Vaelith immediately expressed a helpless smile.
"Your Excellency, we have made countless attempts in the beginning when we first arrived in the Umbral Edge. After all, this is the Umbral Edge, full of unknown danger. Who in their right mind would want to stay?"
"Unfortunately, it’s impossible to leave. The harder you try to escape, the deeper you’ll be dragged into the Umbral Edge’s depths. The laws in the Umbral Edge are incredibly stable yet chaotic at the same time."
"As for your other question, we also don’t dare to migrate to other regions. The Umbral Edge has too many unknown dangers. Even our Proud Ember Tribe doesn’t know that many. But of the few we know, it’s enough to make us not want to leave this region."
"After all, we have the Dead Lands run by Undying Fiends in the north, and the Crystal Nest patrolled by the Edge Sweepers in the south. No matter where we migrate from here, we would have to face extinction-level threats."
"As such, even though we have been trapped in this region, at least it has been relatively safe until now."
Through Divine Lord Vaelith’s words, one could feel his helplessness and despair. The Proud Ember Tribe simply didn’t have a choice.
"Your Divinity, may this Humble One make an impudent request?"
"You want to join us and escape the Umbral Edge together?"
Empyrean Oceanheart easily saw through Divine Lord Vaelith’s thoughts. Unfortunately, she was bound to disappoint him.
"I know what you are thinking, but I’m afraid even we are not certain we can escape the Umbral Edge. Furthermore, I don’t want to alarm you, but we are being chased by the Edge Sweeper as we speak."
"For some reason, it is able to follow our trail, even when we are countless light-years away. Are you sure that you still want to join us?" Empyrean Oceanheart asked with a meaningful look.
Divine Lord Vaelith was quickly stunned.
