Chapter 104 Part 1 – Stay Far Away From Me, Please and Thank You (I)
Hao Xufeng’s lackeys scrambled to help him up. Xia Mian, however, didn’t spare them a single glance. Her eyes were fixed only on the calm, elegant man stepping out of the car.
“Dr. Ning!”
The moment Ning Shaobai’s gaze landed on her, a radiant smile suddenly lit up his face.
Maybe it was because they hadn’t seen each other in so long, but to Xia Mian, he looked very dazzling today. Dressed casually in jeans and a white T-shirt, his hair freshly styled, he looked more like a college student in his early twenties.
Before her brain could even process it, Xia Mian had already dashed toward him. “Dr. Ning!”
Ning Shaobai’s smile deepened, his eyes overflowing with fondness. He instinctively opened his arms.
But just as she reached him, Xia Mian braked sharply, stopping half a step away. She looked up at him and grinned mischievously. “Dr. Ning, you’re finally here!”
Her big almond eyes were full of joy—though that didn’t stop her from being cheeky.
Ning Shaobai reached out and gave her head a vigorous rub.
Xiao Feng came bouncing over too, hugging Ning Shaobai’s leg and exclaiming, “Uncle Ning!”
Ning Shaobai glanced down and gave his tuft hair a tug, chuckling, “You got tanned. And sturdier. Been running wild, haven’t you?”
Xiao Feng giggled and happily swayed while hugging his leg.
On the other side, Hao Xufeng finally recovered and stood up with his lackeys’ help. He wiped the blood from his nose, and when he saw the red stain on the tissue, his eyes filled with fury. His gaze toward Ning Shaobai was vicious, like he wanted to tear him apart.
“Got a lot of nerve, don’t you? Do you even know who I am?! Beat him! Just don’t kill him!”
The thugs surged forward instantly. One particularly fierce-looking guy with a scar on his face lunged at Ning Shaobai without a word.
Xia Chuan shouted in alarm, “Dr. Ning, watch out!”
Xia Mian, already anticipating trouble the moment Hao Xufeng spoke, had pulled Xiao Feng back to a safe distance. Ning Shaobai didn’t even flinch. With a smooth spin and side kick, he landed a solid blow right to the thug’s stomach. The big, bulky man stumbled back several steps before collapsing onto the two others who had rushed after him.
Of the six attackers, half were on the ground in seconds.
Ning Shaobai lowered his leg and glanced at Hao Xufeng. His eyes finally settled on Hao’s head, clearly recognizing him. He said calmly, “Young Master Hao.”
Even in his rage, Hao Xufeng sensed the contempt in that address. But Ning Shaobai treated his aggression like a joke—like he was just a clown.
“In broad daylight, what exactly is Young Master Hao trying to do?”
It had been years since anyone had dared talk to Hao Xufeng like that. Enraged, he turned, snatched a knife from one of his men, and spat viciously, “What am I doing?”
“I’m gonna kill you! That’s what!”
The crowd screamed and backed away in fear. Everyone knew he wasn’t bluffing—Hao Xufeng had stabbed more than a few people in recent years.
“Dr. Ning!” Xia Chuan panicked and tried to rush over, but Xia Mian grabbed him. “Relax. He’s fine.”
Sure enough, before the screaming even died down, Ning Shaobai had already twisted Hao Xufeng’s wrist, subduing him effortlessly like an adult handling a child. He didn’t even bother arguing. While holding him, he calmly pulled out his phone with one hand and made a call.
“Mr. Hao? Your son is currently…” He looked at Xia Chuan.
Still stunned by Ning Shaobai’s moves, Xia Chuan couldn’t respond right away. A young man nearby stepped in, “In front of the electric bureau.”
“Yes, at the electric bureau. He tried to assault me with a knife. Could you please come discipline him? Or would you prefer I do it for you?”
Hao Xufeng, unable to move with his wrist locked, sneered through gritted teeth when he heard the phone call. “So you’ve already knelt at the mountain gate, huh? Then you should’ve done your homework. Let’s see who my dad decides to discipline—you, or me!”
“You’d better let me go, or I swear I’ll—AARGH!”
Ning Shaobai applied more pressure. “Quiet down. You’re annoying.”
“We’ll find out soon enough who your father will discipline.”
Hao Xufeng’s face twisted, turning red and purple in a mix of rage, humiliation, and pain. His men, unsure what to do, dared not make a move under Ning Shaobai’s unshakable presence.
Soon after, Mr. Hao’s people arrived. Several burly men stepped out of a vehicle, promptly taking Hao Xufeng from Ning Shaobai and restraining him.
Hao Xufeng shouted in disbelief, struggling wildly. “Hey! You dare arrest me?! Let go of me! Grab him! Drag him back for me!”
The men ignored Hao Xufeng’s shouting. The one in the lead turned to Ning Shaobai and said politely, “Mr. Ning, apologies for the scene. Mr. Hao originally intended to come in person, but he’s out of town and couldn’t make it. He’ll be sure to offer his apologies personally another day.”
Ning Shaobai replied, “No need for an apology. I won’t be staying here long anyway. But I still advise your Mr. Hao to keep a tighter leash on his son. The Hao family has no grudge against the Xia family—why create one?”
The man nodded solemnly. “You’re absolutely right.”
As Hao Xufeng was forced into the car, the bystanders murmured in amazement. It was the first time anyone had seen the rich man Hao take such firm action against his son. Usually, he just came to clean up the mess afterward.
With Hao Xufeng dealt with, the crowd quickly dispersed. Ning Shaobai’s gaze landed on a few people lurking nearby, clearly trying to eavesdrop.
Xia Chuan followed his line of sight and frowned. “Eldest Mao? You guys still here?”
The three Mao family members, realizing they’d been seen, turned and bolted. After being crushed by the Hao family, they were like startled birds, terrified of anyone with real power.
Now that they’d seen how effortlessly Hao Xufeng was taken down by Ning Shaobai, any thoughts of scheming against Xia Mian vanished on the spot.
“Dr. Ning, you’re so reliable!” Xia Mian’s eyes sparkled as she looked at Ning Shaobai.
Ning Shaobai was amused. He reached out and tugged at her unruly tuft, then turned back to park the car properly.
Xia Chuan now had full fanboy mode activated. “Dr. Ning just got to Mingxi County, right? And he was already able to get rich man Hao to rein in his son?”
Xia Mian thought for a moment. “He probably made arrangements before coming.”
She’d told Ning Shaobai pretty much everything over the phone—especially about the Hao and Mao families, since they were connected to her family. Given his cautious nature, it was totally within character for him to prep in advance, find leverage, and use it to full effect.
Even though Xia Chuan didn’t fully understand it, that didn’t stop him from admiring Ning Shaobai. He enthusiastically led the way.
Ning Shaobai held Xiao Feng’s hand as they walked, but when Xia Mian tried to cozy up next to him, he immediately kept some distance.
Xia Mian noticed and tried to grab his arm. Ning Shaobai dodged quickly, pressing his palm to her shoulder to keep the cheeky girl at bay.
While the two silently fought over personal space, Xia Chuan’s voice suddenly turned cold from up ahead. “Ma Lili?”
Xia Mian looked up and saw a young woman standing at the corner of the path they had to take to get home.
