Vampire's Slice Of Life

Chapter 1188: Butterflies and Chessboard

Chapter 1188: Butterflies and Chessboard

The sky was ablaze. The night dark.

At the base of a spewing volcano, rows of EGC soldiers charged at the Asuras wielding heavy weapons, blood splattering everywhere like morning mist.

Standing at the back of the EGC soldiers were two men in all black military attire, both possessing red eyes.

Without turning towards the domineering Sixth Pillar beside him, Roy clasped his hands behind his back and said, "It looks grim."

In his vision, the vampire soldiers were being cut mercilessly. Their bodies were regenerating at a fast pace but before they could fully return to their original state, they were cut down by the Asuras again.

The sight was grueling and a battle of such a large scale made Roy aware of how big of a battle freaks the Asuras were.

"It's okay. We'll have reinforcements soon. We've captured two gates and can focus completely on this one now," said the Sixth Pillar while calmly gazing at the battlefield.

"Mm. We haven't made our moves either,"

Roy's comment made the Sixth Pillar turn to him. "This makes me wonder, why haven't we made a move yet? We can turn the tides anytime with our appearance."

"Not yet," Roy shook his head. "Both sides are testing each other. Plus, I'm waiting…"

"Waiting for?" The Sixth Pillar probed.

Roy squinted his gaze. "For the Asura nobles to appear."

…..

On a cliff at a distance from the battlefield, two figures sat by a round table while a tall curvy lady donning a pointy hat stood at the edge and stared at the ongoing war.

On the round table, in front of Lith was a complex black-purple magic circle inscribed by Sylvia and Fei.

Fei was making some hand seals while Sylvia was staring at the battlefield without blinking an eye.

In a few moments, the magic circle glowed and Lith saw a 3D model of the battlefield. It was live, life-like, and completely seemed like a miniature version of the actual place.

Sylvia made some hand signs after the model manifested and black, inconspicuous butterflies flew from empty space in front of her.

These butterflies flapped their majestic wings and disappeared into the night.

Sylvia stopped watching over the battlefield and got back to sit on the table.

At this moment, Lith felt a strange connection to the miniature model in front.

He pinched his fingers at a certain place and zoomed in like he would on a phone's screen.

The area was magnified and Lith could see Roy's figure very clearly.

Back at Roy's place, his hair stood on their ends as he went on a completely alert mode. He felt as if someone was watching him, unaware of a black butterfly flapping its wings a few meters near him.

This was the Legendary Witch's space abilities, a true master at work.

Lith could see how on guard Roy looked. But the confusion on his face made him understand that his maid's abilities were far superior than his, given how he couldn't notice her aura nearby.

"Good job, Sylvia." Lith praised.

"It's nothing." Sylvia, with her ever expressionless face, said in a neutral tone, as if it was really a trivial matter.

However, Lith could see a few drops of sweat on her neck.

He smiled and shook his head, patting Sylvia's head and saying, "Don't overextend yourself."

"Mhm…" Sylvia didn't say more and closed her eyes to focus on her butterflies.

Meanwhile, in front of Lith, Fei's eyes glowed in an ancient amber color. She stared at the table, at the space beside the miniature battlefield and tapped on it at random places.

Soon, a chessboard could be seen on it and a game began playing on its own.

As Lith stared at it, he instantly noticed a peculiarity.

The game had moved past the beginning stage and was in the middle. The white side had moved their king, castling with the rook while the enemy king stayed unmoving even with a clear sign of getting a check.

"Master, it's strange…" Fei's voice grabbed Lith and Sylvia's attention. "Both sides haven't moved their key places and if this goes on, they'll just end up sacrificing all their pawns."

What Fei said resonated with the chessboard as the number of pawns had halved while the main pieces remained unmoving.

The white side's knight and bishop were out but apart from that, everything else was unmoving. This was the movement of Roy and the Sixth Pillar.

As for the black side's pieces, not a single main force had come out, even though the threat of a check was imminent. And also, they were missing a rook. It was as if nobody had bothered to put the piece on the board while starting the game.

Lith figured this representation was probably the guy guarding the Hollow Glacier. He acted personally and removed that man from the picture.

Lith felt as if he was cheating the game. But hey, it didn't matter. In war, everything was fair. Only a fool would not use every advantage they had in their hands.

"Your seer abilities are quite good too, Fei." Lith gave praise where it was due.

"Thank you, Master." Fei replied humbly. "But I'm not done yet."

"Oh?" Lith raised his eyebrow in surprise and soon saw the chess pieces moving.

The bishop moved to snipe the king, but was unable to make an impact as the queen intervened.

The pieces soon got back to their previous positions as if someone had rewound the time.

"This…" Lith had some assumptions about what happened but still turned to Fei to ask about it.

"It's a possible outcome. The event has not happened yet." Fei replied. "If we move the Sixth Pillar, the bishop, to do a check, we'll have the queen intercept us. Who this queen is supposed to be is unknown."

There were many variables on the battlefield as Lith didn't have a full knowledge of the Asuras. He only knew of the Evures because of capturing Roy and Jacqueline.

"Interesting. Quite interesting…"
