Chapter 1220: Prison (14)
Chapter 1220: Prison (14)
A new world met Lith’s eyes as he flew out of the water.
Humanoid monsters crawled on the floor.
Flora-fauna flourished across the walls and the ceiling was an endless dark sky.
Meng Yuexin felt thorns piercing under her skin as she watched the grotesque monsters below.
Some had mouths on their backs, some with bones piercing out of their bodies, and some were gnawing on nearby monsters.
She was just glad they were not paying attention toward her.
The whistling sound intensified in Lith’s ears and he flew up.
Although he was flying above, he knew he was actually going deeper into the prison layers.
Colorfully luminescent flowers grew the higher he went.
Eventually, he came to a dead end.
Meng Yuexin knitted her brows and was about to comment about them falling into a trap when the wall before pulsated and convulsed, as if it was alive.
Roots thrashed around and a door was formed, opening right in front of the two.
Meng Yuexin did not wish to go inside. It looked really claustrophobic.
‘Just a few more layers until I reach the bottom…’
Lith had a feeling.
The warden authority of this prison brought great insights. He didn’t need to actively think.
The deeper he ventured, the information appeared in his mind as if it was already there.
Flying inside the door, Lith found himself in a narrow passage.
He had to walk from here onward.
He put Meng Yuexin down but the ground convulsed and roots wrapped around her legs.
With his sharp nails, Lith cut it and placed her in a piggyback.
“Sorry…” Meng Yuexin had a dejected expression as she found herself to be dead weight.
“It’s alright.” Lith replied and moved on.
The narrow passage led to a dead end where another door opened like before.
It led to a brightly lit dome-shaped hall.
Standing in the middle, the whistling sound turned faint as Lith noticed cells everywhere.
Within the cells were more hideous monsters. Some growled like proper beasts while most stood silently, watching Lith and Meng Yuexin’s every move. They were sentient, Lith assumed.
As he walked closer to the monsters, they immediately hunched their backs in submission or looked away.
None wished to see Lith.
Lith had a look at them and thought, ‘They are on the same level as a Legendary Rank…’
Meng Yuexin did not have such insights and was just grossed out from the monsters.
Being on Lith’s back, she felt as if she was sightseeing. It was an odd feeling but a good one nonetheless.
Lith moved past the cells and reached a platform where he saw many altars.
Nothing was written on them but as Lith approached one, he realized what it was.
Executioner authority.
He moved to the next.
Jailer authority.
Watcher authority.
Sealkeeper authority.
‘So many inheritances like the warden authority…’
Lith realized.
‘Is the prison trying to promote me?’ Lith had a hunch.
There weren’t any further doors leading elsewhere and the whistling sound wasn’t guiding him either.
This meant he probably had to choose one of these inheritances to move forward.
Lith looked at them and said out loud, “This is nice but I’ll decide later. Let me see everything first. I’m not going anywhere anyway.”
This wasn’t the end of the prison.
This was a decision point the prison wanted Lith to make.
By now, he and even Meng Yuexin knew the prison was alive and watching.
The moment he said so, the whistling sound returned and guided him toward a cell.
Lith followed it.
The monster within turned away and hunched in fear as it saw him.
The whistling sound became sharp and shrill.
The monster let out a soul-piercing screech and stared at the ceiling.
SPLAT—!
Its body burst apart.
The cell got covered in blood, bones, and organs.
Not a drop spilled out.
Meng Yuexin almost pissed herself in dread.
After the screech, she hid her face behind Lith, and the splattering sound only made her tremble further.
“You’re a Legendary Rank. Shivering like that doesn’t suit you.” Lith commented.
“I-I-it’s too scary… I am only a human at the end of the day…”
Lith shook his head and stared at the cell.
The steel gate eventually collapsed into the ground and the bloody chamber turned into a path leading downwards.
It was big enough for Lith to extend his wings and fly.
He ventured deeper.
Darkness.
Stillness.
Lith did not feel like he was flying despite knowing he was sinking deeper and deeper.
Meng Yuexin’s hands and legs tightened around his body, afraid of losing him.
It took a few minutes but Lith eventually reached an open space.
It was vast and seemed endless.
Red and yellow luminescent flowers lined the ground, illuminating the entire space.
Between this space were double metallic doors.
Literally just doors leading to nowhere.
Lith could see the front and back of it.
The walls of the space had enormous metal chains embedded within.
Engraved on these chains was something inscribed in an ancient language that even Lith couldn’t read.
Lith stopped here for a few minutes to understand this place.
He did not place Meng Yuexin down.
He had a feeling that if she touched anything, she would be immediately vaporized.
Closing his eyes, Lith tried to communicate with the prison.
“What is this place?”
Lith got an answer.
However, he didn’t see what Meng Yuexin did.
Outside, the walls heaved forward and back, as if breathing.
Meng Yuexin felt a shiver down her spine and trembled again.
The horrors were unimaginable.
If she was a normal human, she would’ve already died from her mind getting collapsed or from the severe claustrophobia.
‘Below…’
‘This is the below, the end of the prison.’
Lith got the insights flowing into his mind.
‘From here, the prison keeps expanding.’
Lith opened his eyes and stared at the flowers at the end.
He could see new flowers slowly blooming.
It wasn’t just the flowers, the chained walls grew too.
‘It’s slow but the prison is ever expanding. It doesn’t wish to stop. It has gotten so big, it needs keepers. It wishes for me to get more authority so I can help manage it…’
Realization dawned upon Lith.
No wonder the Evure God Clan ancestor warned Lith beforehand.
He stared at the end for a good few minutes.
The walls inhaled. Chains rattled.
It exhaled. Chains rattled.
Flowers bloomed.
The prison grew.
He looked at the metallic doors placed in the middle of nowhere.
It was symmetrical. Artificially made. Contained a lot of inscribed seals.
The whistling sound was completely silent at this point and it probably meant it was up to Lith to do what he wished to do.
He did not get an insight from the prison regarding the doors.
As he walked close to it, the prison did not react.
Lith touched the doors.
It was a gentle touch but the heavy doors were light as feathers, instantly budging an inch.
A chilling breeze made Lith and Meng Yuexin’s hair flutter.
Meng Yuexin clutched Lith tight enough as if her life depended on it.
It quite literally did.
Before he stepped foot inside, ancient sigils appeared in his eyes, spiraling into his pupils and turning brightly colored as his eyes turned red.
The vortex tattoo on Lith’s arm spiralled and came alive as well.
‘Let’s see what you truly are.’
Lith nudged the door and took a step inside.
