Chapter 3051: Illusory River Unicorn Horn
Chapter 3051: Illusory River Unicorn Horn
"I tried everything," Elyon said. "Used my darkness sense, tried qi residue tracking, and even got a bloodhound immortal talisman from a local formation master. But the trail just... ends."
Lin Mu frowned. "So they either teleported or were picked up mid-way."
"Exactly. But then, one of my more distant contacts—someone in the Black Market’s outer ring—got a ping I’d left in case anything illegal flowed into the region."
He paused. "And something did."
Daoist Chu narrowed his eyes. "What kind of something?"
"A shipment of Human Blood Essence Crystals."
Meng Bai visibly flinched. "That’s not just illegal. That’s... borderline taboo." He had learned enough under Lin Mu to know what they were.
Lin Mu’s gaze darkened slightly. "Where?"
"That’s the problem," Elyon said. "I can’t get the exact location. The contact is willing to trade the info, but not for Immortal stones or crystals."
"Then what?"
Elyon looked at Lin Mu with a strange mix of exasperation and awe. "He wants an Illusory River Unicorn Horn."
There was silence for a moment.
Meng Bai blinked. "A what?"
Daoist Chu actually choked on his tea. "Are they mad?"
Lin Mu tilted his head. "I’ve never even heard of that creature."
"You’re not alone," Elyon muttered, rubbing his temples. "That’s because they don’t live in this world. The Illusory River Unicorn is a unique creature, rarely found even in upper realms. Most known instances are in the Eastern Immortal Territories or among the sects in the Farlands.
Even there, they’re rare and revered."
"And their horns?" Lin Mu asked.
"They’re used in high-grade divination rituals," Elyon explained. "The horn itself stores enormous amounts of temporal resonance and spatial memory. It’s one of the best known tools to divine hidden fates or find those outside karma’s thread—like masked or erased individuals."
Lin Mu looked thoughtful. "Sounds like something the Drowned Crescent Cult would want."
"Even the Emphemera Sect is known to dabble in divination." He added after a thought.
Elyon nodded. "Which means whoever wants the horn is either working with them—or trying to find them."
Meng Bai folded his arms. "Either way, we can’t just ignore it."
Lin Mu tapped the table. "Is it even possible to get one?"
Daoist Chu frowned deeply. "We’d have to track one down. Maybe the Eastern Immortal Court’s Territories. Or... you’d need a contact from the Farlands itself."
Lin Mu stood. "I’ll handle that. We’ll find a way."
"But," Daoist Chu warned, "you can’t just buy a unicorn horn from them. You’ll need to earn it. Either a favor... or something priceless."
Lin Mu looked calm. "Then I’ll offer something priceless. Or just get the help of someone that has something."
Elyon muttered, "Like your dinner budget."
The others chuckled, but Lin Mu’s expression stayed focused.
He turned toward the window, the evening breeze brushing through his hair.
They had a target now. Not just a cult, but a lead into its modern day dealings. A request that crossed worlds. A demand that hinted at someone meddling with fate itself.
And if the Drowned Crescent Cult truly had survived all these centuries, then they weren’t just hiding—they were preparing.
Lin Mu narrowed his eyes.
And he would find them, even if it meant crossing into the stars.
Lin Mu and Daoist Chu sat in a room as they thought about how to get the horn. Elyon had gone out again to look for more clues in the meantime while Meng Bai did his study which he had skipped for a couple days already.
"I think we can use Lady Kang to procure a horn for us." Lin Mu spoke after a bit of thinking.
"That’s right, there’s nothing Lady Kang or the Great Kang Auction house can’t get." Daoist Chu replied.
"Though how do we contact her in a short enough time. The jade slips won’t reach that far." Lin Mu stated. "Can you use the Immortal Court’s Channels?" he asked next.
"I can but with the bureacracy we have to deal with and the multiple channels it passes through, it might take months before we get a response back." Daoist Chu said with a sigh.
"Hmm..." Lin Mu furrowed his brows.
A moment later though, Daoist Chu thought of something.
"Wait! I know exactly the way to contact her quick." Daoist Chu exclaimed.
"What?" Lin Mu questioned.
"We just need to make use of the merchant groups themselves. A big enough one will certainly have connections with the Great Kang Auction House, or at least know someone that does." Daoist Chu suggested.
"That’s right!" Lin Mu’s eyes lit up.
The merchant unions had their own private channels for trading and business that prioritized speed so they will probably be able to do it quick enough. Plus with it being the Great Kang Auction house they WILL have to prioritize it even more.
"Let’s head out and meet with Elyon, I know just the place that might be able to help us." Daoist Chu strode out with confidence.
The interior of the Smoldering Rock Merchant Union’s branch in Ash Crown City was designed for opulence and intimidation. Crystal chandeliers dangled from volcanic glass rafters.
The floors were polished obsidian. Attendants dressed in flame-embroidered robes stood like sentinels, their expressions practiced to neutrality, prepared to handle even immortal realm customers without flinching.
And yet, the moment Lin Mu and his companions walked in, a faint tension seemed to follow them—like storm clouds just outside the door.
Elyon, cloaked and quiet as always, leaned toward Meng Bai and muttered, "I’m telling you, this won’t work. These kinds of merchant unions only take requests through official channels. Their private communication arrays are reserved for the elite—nobility, imperial envoys, Patriarchs of major sects. Not bounty hunters or rogue cultivators."
Meng Bai chuckled. "You’ll learn. Just watch."
The receptionist—a tall woman with glowing orange eyes and flame-hued hair—barely glanced at them before saying curtly, "If you wish to place a trade request or courier service, proceed to the left wing. If you are here for internal communication services, I’m afraid access is restricted to affiliate partners."
