Chapter 3765: Perfected Disguise
Chapter 3765: Perfected Disguise
Several hours later, Xukong finally completed the seal.
The countless spatial threads that had filled the ring’s space slowly withdrew back into the spider’s body while the ancient runes faded from sight one after another. The distortions in space gradually settled as well, leaving behind only Lin Mu sitting cross legged in silence.
For a few moments, he simply observed himself.
The feeling was strange.
His cultivation was still there, every core remained intact, his immortal essence still flowed through his body, his Dao Embryos remained untouched and nothing had actually disappeared.
And yet it felt as if all of it had become infinitely distant.
Lin Mu could sense his cultivation clearly within himself, but it no longer seemed to occupy the same space as his body. It was similar to looking through a window at something that was nearby yet unreachable.
The sensation was difficult to describe.
"It worked." Xukong stated.
Lin Mu nodded slowly. "It did."
He extended his immortal sense inward and immediately discovered the source of the strange feeling. Hidden deep within the spatial seal was a tiny pocket dimension. The space was incredibly small compared to something like his ring, but it was more than sufficient for its purpose.
All of his cultivation fluctuations were being redirected there.
Every trace of immortal essence, every fluctuation of Qi, every hint of Dao traces... Everything was being gathered within that microscopic spatial pocket. As a result, almost nothing leaked from his body anymore.
Even Lin Mu had difficulty sensing it from the outside.
To test it further, he slowly raised a finger as a tiny spark appeared above it before a small fireball formed. The flame was barely larger than a marble. Even so, the moment it appeared, Lin Mu sensed a reaction from the seal.
The pocket dimension trembled and a tiny crack appeared within the spatial structure before quickly stabilizing again.
Lin Mu immediately extinguished the flame and the disturbance vanished.
"I see..." Lin Mu muttered.
Xukong nodded. "Using cultivation creates pressure."
"It wasn’t much."
"Because it was a tiny fireball." Xukong replied. "Try using one of your actual techniques and you’ll understand."
Lin Mu had no intention of doing that.
The purpose of the seal was infiltration. Testing its limits now would accomplish nothing. Besides, he already understood the principle. Every time he used his cultivation, the seal would weaken slightly.
The more power he used, the greater the strain.
Eventually there would come a point where the seal could no longer contain everything. At that moment his true cultivation would be revealed. Thankfully he had no plans to fight anyone.
At least not unless circumstances forced him to.
Lin Mu then tested his spatial abilities.
He activated Blink, and he instantly vanished before appearing several meters away. The seal remained completely stable.
He used Flicker next.
Then Meld.
Everything worked perfectly. His connection to the ring was unaffected. The spatial techniques linked to the ring bypassed the seal entirely. Realizing this, a relieved expression appeared on Lin Mu’s face.
That was perhaps the most important result.
Without his spatial abilities, infiltrating the Heavenly Stream Guardian Sect would become significantly more difficult.
A moment later Ashy’s voice sounded through their connection.
"Master! The elder is already in the ravine!"
Lin Mu immediately became serious.
"How close?"
"He descended already." Ashy replied. "He’s searching."
Lin Mu nodded.
"Keep watching."
"I will."
The connection faded and Lin Mu stood up.
The time had come. He could no longer use his immortal sense freely. While the seal itself could tolerate moderate use of immortal sense, doing so would expose him.
A Fifth Tribulation Immortal was currently searching the ravine. Any unusual fluctuation might attract attention.
Thus Lin Mu restricted himself.
The feeling was rather uncomfortable. After spending so many years perceiving the world through immortal senses, suddenly losing it felt like becoming partially blind. Still, it was necessary.
Lin Mu next changed into Little Bull’s clothing.
The rough village garments fit surprisingly well. They were simple and worn from years of use. The fabric was coarse, the sleeves had been patched several times and the outfit perfectly matched what a village laborer would wear.
After changing, Lin Mu stored away everything else.
His own robes disappeared, his treasures vanished into the ring and even the Silver Mirage Circlet was removed. There could be no traces of Lin Mu remaining. The final task involved Little Bull himself.
Lin Mu looked toward the sealed box resting in the corner of the cave.
Within it lay the young man’s body. Several preservation talismans covered the box’s surface. The corpse would remain intact for a long time as Lin Mu had no intention of simply abandoning it.
Whatever happened in the future, he would eventually return and properly bury the young man. Little Bull deserved at least that much. Especially after unknowingly providing Lin Mu with such a valuable opportunity.
With the preparations complete, Lin Mu sent Xiao Yin and Xiao Yang back into the Sleepscape.
The twins were reluctant to leave, they wanted to watch. But their presence created unnecessary risks. Thus they obeyed.
Ashy remained outside for now.
She was positioned far above the ravine where she could continue monitoring the elder’s movements. Once the timing was right, she too would disappear. After that, Lin Mu would truly be alone.
Or as alone as he could be.
There was still one final thing he needed to do.
Lin Mu closed his eyes.
"Saintess." He called.
For a few moments, nothing happened.
Then a familiar voice reached his ears.
"You certainly look different."
Lin Mu smiled slightly.
The Saintess did not appear physically and only her voice remained. Even she seemed somewhat amused by his current appearance.
"I’ll take that as a success." Lin Mu spoke.
"It is." she replied. "If I did not know beforehand, I would believe you were another person entirely."
Lin Mu felt relieved.
Then he asked the question that concerned him most.
"Can you sense anything from me?"
The Saintess remained silent briefly.
When she finally answered, there was genuine surprise in her voice.
"No."
Lin Mu blinked. "No?"
"I cannot sense your Qi."
