Chapter 3847: Releasing The Beasts

Lin Mu finally left the library a couple of hours later, though it took considerable effort for him to actually convince himself to walk away.

Every new section he passed seemed to contain something interesting, and even the techniques that were useless to him personally often carried strange ideas or records left behind by body cultivators from ancient generations.

The Wild Peak’s library was simply too vast, and Lin Mu had barely explored a fraction of it. If he had been here under normal circumstances, he could easily imagine spending several months inside without ever feeling bored.

The problem was that he was currently Little Bull. And Little Bull had somehow disappeared into a library for more than twenty hours.

Lin Mu only realized how much time had passed when he checked the time using his own disciple token. He had entered the library sometime during the previous day, and now another morning had already arrived.

He had completely missed the evening, the night, and apparently breakfast too.

"Over twenty hours," Lin Mu muttered as he walked through the long stone corridor leading out of the mountain. "I really lost track of time."

"That tends to happen whenever ’you’ find a library," Xukong replied.

Lin Mu could not deny it as he had done the same thing before several times. The only reason he had stopped now was because he remembered his circumstances.

Lin Mu did not know whether the Wild Peak disciples would actually come looking for him if he disappeared for too long. From everything he had seen, there was a reasonable chance no one would notice his absence for several weeks.

Still, Lin Mu did not want to take that chance. Little Bull had only joined the Wild Peak recently and he had yet to finish settling in.

High Elder Shatter Peak had personally recruited him and then vanished to the Core Court almost immediately. If the man returned and asked where his new recruit was, someone might eventually remember that Little Bull had walked into the library and never returned.

That could attract attention and Lin Mu wanted freedom. Being known as the disciple who disappeared for days without explanation before he had even begun cultivating might create the wrong kind of curiosity.

"High Elder Shatter Peak might have returned by now too," Lin Mu said.

"Perhaps," Xukong replied. "Or he might have forgotten why he went to the Core Court and traveled somewhere else."

Lin Mu paused. "That actually sounds possible."

He continued walking.

The massive gate of the library appeared ahead of him after a while. Lin Mu used his disciple token, and the small human-sized door opened at the bottom once again. Lin Mu stepped outside as the enormous doors remained closed.

He looked back.

"I still wonder why they built three hundred meter doors if they’re only going to open this tiny one."

"Perhaps the large doors are used when they need to move something large."

"Like what?"

"Considering the Wild Peak, a mountain."

Lin Mu gave the doors another look and he decided not to question it.

The journey back through the forest was peaceful. Lin Mu followed the same general path he had used earlier, moving at an ordinary pace while occasionally glancing at the surrounding trees. Several Immortal Beasts sensed him, though none approached.

Perhaps they recognized the scent of a Wild Peak disciple. Perhaps they simply did not care. Lin Mu was nearing the courtyard area when he suddenly stopped. There was nothing ahead of him, no beast nor anything of interest.

Lin Mu stopped because someone was screaming inside his mind.

"Master!" Lin Mu blinked.

"MASTERRRRRRR!" The second voice was even louder.

Lin Mu closed his eyes.

"Master! Let us out!" Xiao Yin demanded.

"Yes! Let us out!" Xiao Yang immediately added. "We’ve been waiting forever!"

"It hasn’t been forever," Lin Mu replied mentally.

"It felt like forever!"

"Very long forever!"

Lin Mu rubbed his forehead and before he could answer, another voice joined them.

"I want to go out too!" Ashy’s excited voice echoed through his mind.

Lin Mu sighed. "Ashy."

"I want to hunt for new bugs!" Ashy declared.

Xiao Yang immediately corrected her. "You said you wanted shiny things."

"I want both!"

"That’s different."

"No, it isn’t!"

"It is!"

"I can find bugs and shiny things at the same time!"

Lin Mu listened to the argument for several seconds.

Then Ashy added proudly, "Sometimes bugs are shiny too."

The twins became silent. Lin Mu could almost imagine them considering the profound wisdom of Ashy’s statement.

"She’s right," Xiao Yin finally said.

"Very right," Xiao Yang agreed.

Lin Mu opened his eyes.

He had promised them that he would allow them to explore once he reached the sect. The twins had already waited almost a year during his journey with Elder He Jian, and Ashy had spent most of that time inside the Sleepscape too.

They deserved some freedom.

More importantly, Lin Mu was still inside the forest surrounding the Wild Peak. If there was anywhere within the Heavenly Stream Guardian Sect where four unknown beasts could suddenly appear without immediately causing panic, it was probably here.

Lin Mu looked around and confirmed there was no one nearby. "Fine."

The response was immediate.

"YES!"

"LET’S GO!"

"BUGS!"

Lin Mu willed it and four figures appeared.

Little Shrubby emerged first.

The currently small liger stretched his body and immediately sniffed the air. His ears twitched as countless scents reached him from the surrounding forest. Xiao Yin and Xiao Yang appeared next.

The two serpents barely waited for their bodies to fully emerge before they started circling Lin Mu. Ashy appeared last and the tiny black bird immediately vanished into Lin Mu’s shadow.

Then she reappeared, then vanished again.

Lin Mu narrowed his eyes. "Ashy."

The bird froze halfway into his shadow. "Yes, Master?"

"Come here." Ashy reluctantly flew out.

The twins stopped moving too while Little Shrubby sat down. Lin Mu looked at all four beasts.

"I have rules."
