Chapter 3853: Abandoned And A Little Girl

Chapter 3853: Abandoned And A Little Girl

Both men paused and saw that their communication jade slips were glowing.

The first disciple frowned. "Who is disturbing lunch?"

The second disciple looked equally irritated. "Ignore it."

But then the jade slips buzzed again. Then again and the two disciples sighed. They picked up their jade slips while Little Bull continued cooking. But when the two disciples checked the messages, their expressions changed.

The first disciple’s eyes widened and the second disciple slowly lowered his jade slip. Then they looked at each other, before...

"FUCK!" Both shouted at the same time.

Little Bull jumped slightly. "What happened?"

The first disciple stood up. "The reports!"

The second disciple grabbed his head. "We forgot the Pill Division reports!"

Little Bull looked confused. "What reports?"

"The Wild Peak pill supply requisition reports!" the first disciple explained quickly. "We were supposed to deliver them today."

"We were going to take you with us," the second disciple added.

"Why?"

"So you could see the Pill Division."

The first disciple slapped his forehead. "But we couldn’t find you."

"Then we found you."

"Then we ate."

"Then we trained."

"Then we found boars."

The two disciples looked at the roasted meat.

The second disciple pointed at it. "This distracted us."

Lin Mu stared. ’The meat didn’t do anything.’

The first disciple checked the message again as his face paled. "We need to go."

"Now."

"Immediately."

Little Bull looked at the food. "What about lunch?"

The two disciples visibly struggled. Their eyes moved toward the fragrant boar meat. Then toward their jade slips. And then back toward the meat.

The first disciple clenched his fists. "Junior Brother."

"Yes?"

"Enjoy the rest."

The second disciple stood beside him. "We have to submit these before the elders cane our butts."

The first disciple nodded. "Again."

Little Bull raised his brows. "Again?"

But neither disciple answered.

BOOM!

The ground exploded beneath their feet as the two men turned into blurs. Within seconds, they had disappeared into the forest while Little Bull remained beside the fire. He stared in the direction they had gone.

Then he looked at the large amount of Root Turner Boar meat still waiting to be cooked. Lin Mu was left standing alone in the clearing, having been thoroughly abandoned by the two senior disciples who had supposedly brought him out to train.

He continued looking in the direction they had disappeared for several seconds before letting out a sigh and turning back toward the fire.

Considering everything he had learned about the Wild Peak over the past few days, he probably should have expected something like this to happen eventually. The surprising part was that the two disciples had remembered their task at all.

His gaze moved toward the remaining Root Turner Boar meat.

The two disciples had eaten nearly seventy percent of the first boar before receiving the message, which was an impressive amount considering how quickly they had consumed it. Still, one entire Root Turner Boar remained untouched, along with the remaining portion of the first beast.

"May as well finish the rest," Lin Mu muttered as there was no reason to waste good meat.

Lin Mu sat down beside the fire again and adjusted the burning logs. The two disciples had gathered enough wood to keep the flames going for several hours, allowing him to focus entirely on cooking.

He placed another stone slab over the fire and waited for it to heat before setting several pieces of Root Turner Boar meat upon it. Soon a loud sizzling sound filled the clearing before Lin Mu took out the spices again.

It had actually been quite some time since he had cooked for himself.

Little Shrubby had taken over most cooking duties years ago, and considering how talented the beast had become, Lin Mu rarely had a reason to interfere. Even when Lin Mu prepared food, Little Shrubby would often appear halfway through the process and begin giving suggestions.

Sometimes those suggestions turned into the cat taking complete control of the meal which Lin Mu did not mind. He enjoyed Little Shrubby’s cooking far too much to complain.

Still, preparing the Root Turner Boar meat himself brought back memories of his earlier days of cultivation.

Back then, he had often cooked beasts he hunted while traveling. His methods had been considerably simpler, though his experience with Little Shrubby had taught him many things over the years.

Lin Mu made several cuts in the meat. He rubbed spices into the flesh before adding more Dragon Breath Garlic paste. The Fragrant Spirit Rosemary sprigs were dipped into oil again and brushed over the surface.

The fragrance gradually spread as smoke rose between the massive trees and disappeared into the canopy. Lin Mu flipped the meat and saw that a golden brown crust had formed over the surface.

"Looks good," he said.

He was about to prepare another piece when a strange rumbling sound reached his ears.

GRRRRRRRRRR.

Lin Mu froze and he looked down. His hand moved toward his stomach.

"Shouldn’t be me," he muttered as he had eaten plenty during breakfast.

Technically his stomach shouldn’t rumble at all, as his stomach had more than enough nutrition in it to last for years. The only reason he continued to eat was to keep up the act of Little Bull and also because he enjoyed it.

Lin Mu waited as silence returned and he shrugged. ’Perhaps it is some beast in the forest.’

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

But a few seconds later, the rumbling sound appeared again. This time, Lin Mu was certain that it had come from behind him. Lin Mu slowly turned around as his eyes moved across the forest.

At first, he saw nothing unusual, just trees and the aftermath of the training. Then his gaze moved upward and Lin Mu stopped.

A small figure was sitting upon a tree branch.

He blinked. ’When did she get there?’

Lin Mu stared at the figure, it was a young girl. Or at least, she looked like one. She sat quietly upon a thick branch nearly twenty meters above the ground, her legs dangling over the edge. Her entire body was motionless.
