Chapter 3947: The Profundity Of The Dual Dimensional Vacuum Compression Art
Lin Mu stood silently in the middle of the vast white space, his gaze still fixed on the three objects resting several meters in front of him. His expression had become considerably more serious after hearing Xukong’s explanation.
He had already known that the hidden space was unusual, but the revelation that the technique used to construct it was something even Xukong considered rare gave the place an entirely different weight.
The part that surprised Lin Mu most was actually Xukong himself.
Over the countless years they had spent together, Lin Mu had come to understand that Xukong possessed an extraordinary amount of knowledge regarding the Spatial Dao.
There were very few spatial techniques that could genuinely surprise him, and even fewer that could make him hesitate before giving an answer. Xukong had guided Lin Mu through countless spatial mysteries, explained obscure principles, and helped him understand things that even high level immortals might spend thousands of years trying to comprehend.
Yet now, Xukong had openly admitted that the Dual Dimensional Vacuum Compression Art was rare. That alone made Lin Mu take the technique far more seriously.
"Senior, then are there more layers to this place?" Lin Mu asked, his eyes narrowing slightly as he looked toward the seemingly endless white space.
"There might be," Xukong replied. "There might also be none."
Lin Mu raised his brows. "That isn’t a very reassuring answer."
"It is the accurate one," Xukong said calmly. "You cannot determine the number of layers simply by entering one compressed space. The technique can be arranged in several ways. Some formations using it have only two primary dimensions interacting with each other. Others continue the principle through multiple stages. Until you uncover the structure step by step, there is no way for me to tell you exactly how deep this place goes."
Lin Mu nodded slowly and he could understand the reasoning.
After all, the entire purpose of this technique seemed to revolve around concealment through compression. If the structure could be identified immediately from the outside, then there would be little point in constructing it in the first place.
"Then I should be careful." Lin Mu stated.
"Extremely," Xukong replied. "The Dual Dimensional Vacuum Compression Art has always been a dangerous technique. Even when constructed properly, it carries considerable risks. The creator needs exceptional control over spatial principles to prevent the compressed dimensions from collapsing into each other. Anyone who attempts to pry into the structure afterward is placing themselves in danger as well."
Lin Mu’s expression became solemn and he looked down at his hands and then at the empty white space around him. "I suppose that explains the pressure I felt while coming in."
"That was only the beginning." Xukong replied.
Lin Mu’s eyes narrowed as he had suspected as much.
The spatial pressure he had experienced was tremendous, yet he had managed to endure it with his physique. If that had merely been the entrance mechanism, then the deeper portions could potentially be far more dangerous.
Lin Mu remained silent for a while before another thought came to him. "There is something else I don’t understand. Why is this called the Dual Dimensional Vacuum Compression Art when there are clearly more than two layers involved?"
Xukong chuckled softly. "Because names are sometimes based on perspective."
Lin Mu waited as Xukong gave the explanation. "To an ordinary cultivator, the structure would appear to have two dimensions interacting with each other. Even a cultivator who has comprehended the Spatial Dao might only recognize two primary layers. When the technique was first created, that was exactly what its creator intended people to see."
"Then the creator deliberately made the deeper structure resemble another layer of the same principle?" Lin Mu grasped the crux of the technique.
"Precisely." Xukong confirmed.
Hearing that, Lin Mu’s eyes brightened.
Xukong continued, "Every two layers can be viewed as a complete pair. The inner layer becomes part of the structure surrounding it, while simultaneously forming the foundation of another pair deeper within. That duality continues again and again. Each pair depends upon the previous one. Without resolving the first layer correctly, you cannot reach the second. Without understanding the second, the third remains inaccessible."
Lin Mu’s expression slowly changed and he finally understood. The name was not describing the total number of layers. It was describing the fundamental relationship between them.
Every stage was built upon a dual relationship, and each completed relationship became the foundation for another. And the deeper one went, the more complicated the structure became.
"That is quite profound." Lin Mu had to admit.
"It is." Xukong nodded.
Lin Mu looked around again and the white space suddenly seemed far less empty. He felt like there could be another layer hidden somewhere or there could also be nothing beyond this point. Either possibility was reasonable.
Lin Mu began examining the space again and this time, he did so with much greater caution.
He released his Spatial Perception slowly and allowed it to spread across every corner of the white expanse. He examined the boundaries, the floor, the empty space above, and even the subtle fluctuations surrounding the three objects left behind.
But there was nothing obvious. Wanting to inspect the most clear targets first, Lin Mu moved toward the old robes. He examined them carefully and saw that spatial energy was woven throughout the material.
There was enough spatial energy within the robes that an ordinary cultivator might mistake them for a spatial treasure. Lin Mu frowned and extended his perception deeper. But there was no hidden spatial pocket and the energy was simply embedded within the material.
After spending some time examining them, Lin Mu came to a conclusion. "These robes have absorbed spatial energy over a very long period."
"That is likely," Xukong replied. "The environment here is saturated with compressed spatial energy. Anything that remains inside for long enough will naturally adapt to it."
"Isn’t this basically a Spatial Treasure at this point?" Lin Mu realized.
"Hmm." Xukong considered it. "It could be called one, but only within this environment."
