Chapter 3967: A Dead Link To A Living Peak Expert
Chapter 3967: A Dead Link To A Living Peak Expert
Lin Mu did not immediately accept the conclusion as there was no direct proof and the name alone was insufficient. A person could have the same name across completely different eras, especially when immortal worlds contained countless cultivators.
Yet there were several factors that made the possibility difficult to dismiss.
The first was the age as Deng Siqi had appeared in Zhenyu’s records more than a hundred and ten thousand years ago. The Heavenly Stream Immortal Daoist was known to be extraordinarily ancient.
Second was the cultivation, as a cultivator who had survived from Zhenyu’s era to the present day, he would have had an enormous amount of time to accumulate cultivation and eventually reach the heights that Deng Siqi had reportedly reached.
Third was the Hopeful Star Pavilion.
Lin Mu already knew that the pavilion had contained ambitious and influential figures. Some of them had connections to elders and powerful disciples of the Heavenly Stream Guardian Sect.
If Deng Siqi had been one of its members during his youth, it would explain how someone from that era could have accumulated such an extensive information network. More importantly, it could explain how information regarding the Mad Demon had survived.
Lin Mu’s expression gradually became serious. "If this really is him, then the Hopeful Star Pavilion might have survived too."
That possibility opened another line of investigation. He had initially considered the Hopeful Star Pavilion an ancient organization that had probably vanished with time. Now he could no longer be certain.
A group that had included people of extraordinary talent could have transformed over the generations. Its name might have changed. Its structure might have changed. Its members might have changed completely.
The original organization could have disappeared while its influence continued through another faction.
Lin Mu’s thoughts continued moving.
Perhaps the pavilion had been absorbed into another organization. Perhaps it had been destroyed. Perhaps it had remained hidden. There was even a possibility that some of its original members had survived.
His gaze returned to the name.
"Deng Siqi." Lin Mu narrowed his eyes. "If this really is the Heavenly Stream Immortal Daoist, then I may have found a much bigger clue than I expected."
He did not know whether the man still remembered the Hopeful Star Pavilion. He did not know whether he had been an ordinary member, an important figure or someone who had simply interacted with them.
He also had no idea whether Deng Siqi had ever learned about the Mad Demon himself. There were too many unanswered questions, as such, Lin Mu leaned back and slowly exhaled.
One thing, however, had become clear. The search for the Virtuous Calamity Daoist’s vault had just become considerably more complicated. The trail now connected several ancient figures and possibly the Heavenly Stream Immortal Daoist.
Lin Mu looked toward the eleven spatial portals still hovering in the distance. He had originally thought the portals were his greatest reward from the hidden chamber. Now he realized that the information inside the jade token might prove even more valuable.
"Senior," Lin Mu finally spoke within his mind, "what do you think?"
Xukong remained silent for several moments before he answered. "If that name truly belongs to the same person you know as the Heavenly Stream Immortal Daoist, then you have found a very old thread."
Lin Mu’s expression became sharper. "How old?"
"Old enough that you should be careful about pulling it."
Lin Mu smiled faintly as that answer only made him more curious.
He looked down at the jade token again. "Then I’ll pull it carefully."
Lin Mu remained silent for a while after coming to that conclusion. The information inside Zhenyu’s jade token had given him an enormous amount of clues, perhaps more than he had expected to find when he first entered the Mad Demon Depths.
Yet there was one problem that none of that information could solve.
He needed confirmation.
There was only so much he could learn from records that were over a hundred thousand years old. Names could be shared by different people. Organizations could change beyond recognition.
Information could become distorted after being passed down through countless generations. Even Zhenyu’s own records had contained uncertainties because he had been writing about events from his own perspective.
If Lin Mu wanted to know whether Deng Siqi really was connected to the ancient Hopeful Star Pavilion, he would need access to the current records of the Heavenly Stream Guardian Sect and that meant leaving the Mad Demon Depths.
Fortunately, escaping was no longer difficult for him.
The eleven spatial portals he had discovered gave him several options, and he could also use Phase if necessary. There were even physical routes that Zhenyu had recorded. With Lin Mu’s current abilities, finding his way out would be relatively simple.
The problem was everything waiting for him on the other side.
Lin Mu rubbed his chin. "If I leave as Little Bull, this is going to become troublesome."
He could already imagine the scene.
Little Bull had supposedly been arrested after trespassing into the Vault. The Wild Peak had been searching for him and the elders were furious with Taegong. The Law Division was involved. The Peak Head had left the world. High Elder Shatter Peak had probably gone on a rampage through the sect.
If Little Bull suddenly walked back into the sect completely unharmed, wearing the same clothes and carrying the same appearance he had when he disappeared, there would be no shortage of questions.
Where had he been? How had he escaped? Who had helped him? How had he survived? What had Taegong done? And perhaps most importantly, how had he managed to leave a prison that was supposedly one of the most dangerous and hard to escape areas?
Lin Mu could answer some of those questions but he certainly did not want to answer all of them.
"Hmm." He slowly folded his arms. "I should confirm the current situation and atmosphere of the sect first."
The easiest way to do that was through his beasts. Lin Mu closed his eyes and sent a thought through the connection he shared with them.
