Chapter 3988: Facing The Elder’s Of The Sect

Chapter 3988: Facing The Elder’s Of The Sect

"Which division is he from?" A short elder questioned.

"Look at his build, he’s clearly from the Body Cultivation divisions." Someone said, and everyone turned to the three Man Peak elders who were present.

"We don’t know him." They retorted swiftly,

"Could he be from the Wild Peak?" Someone wondered.

"I know every major elder from the Wild Peak, he’s not one of them. And even for the others, I’m sure I’d remember someone with that build." The Man Peak elders said.

The group finally realized that the man might be wearing the robes of a junior elder, but he was not one they recognized.

"An imposter!"

"He must be an imposter!" a few people said.

Lin Mu, who had been watching them silently, finally spoke.

"Oh how far the dignity of our sect has fallen." Lin Mu spoke, his voice deep and sonorous, while carrying a pride few could comprehend. "To think mere juniors dare to act like this."

The words traveled across the plains with astonishing clarity. Lin Mu had not deliberately infused them with Immortal Qi, yet the strength of his body and the control he possessed over his voice caused every syllable to resonate through the air.

The twenty High Elders heard him perfectly, and for several breaths, none of them responded. Their expressions ranged from confusion to disbelief, with a few quickly turning toward anger.

Every single person standing there was a High Elder of the Heavenly Stream Guardian Sect. Even the youngest among them had lived for thousands of years, while some had cultivated for tens of thousands.

Outside the Heavenly Stream Guardian Sect, any one of them could become the ancestor of a powerful clan or the leader of a respectable sect. Yet the strange man standing above a crater had casually addressed all of them as mere juniors.

The absurdity of it was enough to make several of them wonder whether they had heard correctly.

"Who are you?" one of the Law Division High Elders finally demanded.

The elder was a stern-looking man with a square face and narrow eyes. A silver-edged badge hung from his waist, marking his position within the Core Court Law Division.

His gaze swept across Lin Mu several times, lingering upon the robes he wore. "State your identity and affiliation immediately."

Lin Mu’s eyes slowly shifted toward him, but that simple movement somehow made the Law Division elder feel as though he had just been inspected by someone far above his station.

"State my identity?" Lin Mu repeated as his brows furrowed.

Then he snorted. "Hmph!"

The sound struck the air like a muffled thunderclap and several of the weaker elders unconsciously tensed, while the Man Peak elders narrowed their eyes.

They were body cultivators themselves and could tell that Lin Mu had produced that sound almost entirely through physical strength. There had been little detectable Immortal Qi within it. That realization made them study him more carefully.

Lin Mu folded his arms behind his back and looked across the assembled High Elders with open disappointment.

"You arrive at the Mad Demon Depths after such a disturbance, fail to inspect the breach properly, fail to determine whether the formations have been compromised, fail to investigate whether prisoners have escaped, and then the first thing you do is stand around pointing fingers at the person who emerged from below?" Lin Mu scolded. "Which fool taught you the emergency procedure?"

The elders stared at him and one of the Sword Division elders blinked twice. Another elder turned toward the Law Division members as though silently wondering whether their emergency procedures actually dictated a different order of operations.

The Law Division High Elder’s face twitched. "You dare lecture us?"

Lin Mu’s expression darkened immediately.

"Of course I dare!" he barked.

WHOOSH

The force of his voice rolled outward, causing the grass beneath him to flatten in a broad circle.

"You youngsters have eyes yet fail to observe, ears yet fail to listen, and brains that seem to have become decorations after too many years sitting in meditation chambers!" Lin Mu continued. "Look around you! The Mad Demon Depths have suffered a breach large enough to swallow a pavilion. Spatial fluctuations are still present beneath the ground. The surrounding formations are reacting to the damage. Yet twenty High Elders arrive and begin arguing about my robes!"

Several elders instinctively extended their immortal senses toward the crater and their expressions changed slightly. There really were lingering spatial fluctuations.

Lin Mu almost smiled as of course there were.

He had just blasted his way through multiple layers of the Mad Demon Depths using Devastator. The spatial compression formations buried beneath the earth had been violently disturbed in the process. Even now, remnants of distorted space were slowly settling.

The elders had noticed some of those fluctuations already, but the sudden appearance of Lin Mu had immediately become their primary concern.

Lin Mu gave them no opportunity to regain their momentum.

"You!" he suddenly called.

One of the Spear Division elders stiffened as Lin Mu pointed directly at him. "Why are you standing there?"

The elder stared at him incredulously. "What?"

"What?" Lin Mu repeated with disgust. "Did your master teach you to answer an elder’s question with another question?"

The Spear Division High Elder’s mouth opened and closed while the surrounding elders looked between the two of them.

Lin Mu continued before the man could recover.

"Inspect the eastern side of the crater. The soil there suffered secondary displacement. Check whether the formation veins beneath it have fractured."

The Spear Division elder actually turned his head toward the eastern side of the crater.

Lin Mu’s finger moved. "You three."

The Man Peak elders looked at him.

"Check the structural stability of the ground surrounding the breach. You are body cultivators. Surely your senses have not deteriorated so badly that you cannot distinguish ordinary stone from stone reinforced by formation energy."

One of the Man Peak elders frowned. "Who exactly do you think you are?"

Lin Mu stared at him for three full breaths and the man somehow felt increasingly uncomfortable beneath that stare.

Finally, Lin Mu shook his head in disappointment.

"Man Peak," he muttered. "Still producing thick-headed bulls after all these years."
