Chapter 4004: A Headstrong Man

Chapter 4004: A Headstrong Man

The surrounding elders became quiet.

Daoist Bone Ruler paused for a moment before continuing. "However, even if I am convinced, the rest of the sect will require time. Your disappearance has lasted for more than one hundred thousand years. Your soul lamp extinguished long ago. There are generations of elders and disciples who have never heard your name, much less seen your face. Your return will inevitably raise questions."

Lin Mu slowly stroked his long beard and he nodded.

"I expected as much." His voice remained calm. "This old man has been away for a long time. It would be strange if nobody questioned my return."

Daoist Bone Ruler released a faint breath. ’At least the senior understands the situation.’

He was about to say something else when Lin Mu suddenly turned his head. His gaze landed upon the group of elders standing farther away. The Man Peak elders immediately stiffened as they realized he was gazing at them.

Lin Mu’s eyes narrowed. "Speaking of returning."

His beard moved as he slowly stroked it. "This old man would first like to see what became of his peak after all this time."

The Man Peak elders immediately felt their hearts sink as they had almost forgotten about that.

The earlier battle had been so overwhelming that the matter concerning Little Bull and Wild Peak had been pushed into the background. Now that Lin Mu had brought it up again, every Man Peak elder suddenly became extremely uncomfortable.

One of them swallowed. "Senior Zhenyu, there was a matter involving Wild Peak."

"I know." Lin Mu’s voice remained calm. "Tell me what happened."

The elder hesitated as there was no way around it, so he began explaining.

He spoke about the dispute between Wild Peak and the Law Division. He explained how the conflict had begun, how Little Bull had become involved, and how the new disciple had eventually been imprisoned.

He explained the accusations surrounding him, the decision to detain him, and the subsequent disappearance of the disciple. He also explained how the matter had become increasingly complicated because Little Bull had been talented and had earned the approval of all the elders..

Lin Mu listened without interrupting and his expression gradually changed. At first, there was simple curiosity, then came confusion and displeasure. By the time the elder finished explaining everything, Lin Mu’s eyebrows had lowered.

"Hmm." The single sound carried remarkable weight.

The Man Peak elders immediately felt their backs straighten.

Lin Mu slowly stroked his beard. "A mere elder who isn’t even a true part of my peak dares imprison a new disciple?" His eyes narrowed. "And he even dares to hide afterward?"

The words were spoken quietly, yet the power contained within them made the hearts of everyone nearby throb. Several elders instinctively exchanged glances as they could sense the anger beneath that calm voice.

Daoist Bone Ruler immediately understood where this was heading. If Zhenyu personally decided to investigate the matter, the situation could escalate dramatically. The old man had already demonstrated that he possessed the strength to fight him.

Even more frightening was the fact that Zhenyu had shown no hesitation when confronting the Law Division’s authority.

Daoist Bone Ruler stepped forward. "Senior, I beseech you to remain patient and allow me to help you. I will personally investigate this matter."

Lin Mu looked at him and the two stared at one another. For several breaths, neither spoke. Daoist Bone Ruler maintained a respectful expression, though internally he was becoming increasingly nervous.

He had already learned enough about this senior to understand that reasoning with him would be difficult.

Eventually, Lin Mu nodded. "Very well."

Daoist Bone Ruler’s shoulders relaxed slightly. "Thank you, Senior."

"You can investigate the matter." Lin Mu paused. "While I investigate it through my own means."

Daoist Bone Ruler froze and several elders froze with him. For a moment, nobody knew what to say. The old man’s expression slowly became strange. He had just offered to personally investigate the matter and Zhenyu had agreed.

Then Zhenyu had immediately announced that he would investigate it himself anyway.

Daoist Bone Ruler stared at the old man before him as a thought quietly appeared in his mind. ’He completely ignored what I said.’

There was almost no other explanation. This man was thoroughly a Wild Peak member. There was simply no other way someone could be this headstrong.

Daoist Bone Ruler had spent countless years dealing with troublesome disciples and stubborn elders. He had believed himself familiar with every variety of unreasonable person the sect could produce.

But he had been wrong as Mengli Zhenyu belonged to an entirely different category. Before Daoist Bone Ruler could respond, Lin Mu suddenly turned around and punched. It happened so quickly that most people failed to understand what they had witnessed.

There was no gathering of Immortal Qi or immortal essence. He used no grand technique like before and no weapon either. His fist simply moved forward.

Kacha!

And the air shattered.

The sound was strangely clear as everyone froze and witnessed the space behind Lin Mu crack like glass.

A series of thin black lines appeared and the cracks rapidly spread outward. The surrounding cultivators stared in disbelief as the fractured space began collapsing inward. Pieces of shattered space seemed to crumble away, revealing the darkness beyond.

It was the Void.

A spatial rift had appeared!

"What?" An elder’s voice trembled. "He broke space with a fist?"

Nobody answered as they were all staring. Even the High Elders looked stunned. Breaking space through brute force was already an impressive feat, yet doing so with such casual ease was something else entirely.

Daoist Bone Ruler’s eyes narrowed as he immediately understood that something was wrong. The spatial cracks created by the earlier clash had been chaotic.

Those cracks had emerged because two enormous forces had collided with one another, creating uncontrolled spatial turbulence. The resulting damage had been dangerous precisely because neither side had been deliberately controlling it.

But this was different... Completely different.
