Chapter 1318 - Taming the Old World - Last Dragon - 2
Chapter 1318 - Taming the Old World - Last Dragon - 2
The moment Lin flipped backward to clear the blast zone, Zhao swept past the titan's opposite flank. With a sharp pull, he recalled his buried feathers, violently ripping them horizontally straight through the monster's torso.
The line of steel quills, planted by Zhao, hammered deep by Lin, and ripped out through the side, cleanly bisected the Diamond titan.
The colossal beast finally fell into two twitching halves.
The Academy Directors were already waiting on the flanks and before the hive's problematic regeneration could even attempt to stitch the sundered flesh back together, the old scholars unleashed a roaring tide of spiritual fire, incinerating both halves of the carcass simultaneously.
The northern Diamond died, split in two and burned to ash, mirroring the exact fate of its twin down by the capital.
However, these battlefield dynamics in the north were now mirroring Ren's 'mock' in the south in the worst possible way for an already indignant girl.
Just like she had when Ren executed her first titan, witnessing a second one of her masterpieces reduced to cinders sent Selthia into a blind, screaming fury. Sitting alone in her crystal chamber, utterly deprived of the ancient entity's cold, calculating guidance, the Witch succumbed to the exact same temper tantrum that had ruined all her previous campaigns.
So she abandoned her grand strategy…
For a brief, fatal window, she stopped pouring her heavy offensive pressure into the Light Dragon as should have been her only logical choice.
She abandoned the patient, methodical siege against the guardian and commanded her surviving mutants to pivot and charge the human Vanguard with everything they had.
It was a purely emotional reaction, completely devoid of tactical logic… She wanted them to bleed.
She now wanted a toll in human lives to balance the cost of her lost Diamond, desperate to punish the vermin who dared to try to dismantle the army she had spent an ocean of ether to build.
And the Vanguard was terrifyingly vulnerable.
Because they had been so heavily invested in dealing damage, the human formation was somewhat overextended. The entire northern battalion, the hundreds of Gold-tier soldiers, Victor's aerial squad, and the surviving dual-contract Tamers, had funneled their complete attention into raw offense and thinning the herd to bring the Diamond down… Their defensive posture was too lax. Not a single commander on the field had anticipated that the corrupted swarm, which had spent the entire morning stubbornly fixated on the dragon, would suddenly snap its full jaws in their direction.

Not a single commander on the field had anticipated that the corrupted swarm, which had spent the entire morning stubbornly fixated on the dragon, would suddenly snap its full jaws in their direction.
Selphira immediately attempted to flash-freeze the charging horde, desperately trying to buy time for the infantry on the ground who had not yet been picked up by the flying mounts.
She unleashed a massive, sweeping wave of sub-zero ether, attempting to paralyze the tidal wave of rotting flesh surging toward her people. But there were simply too many of them. As powerful as the ancient matriarch was, she could not instantly arrest the momentum of an entire army.
Dozens of frantic mutants slipped through the gaps in the expanding ice field, launching themselves at the Vanguard soldiers who were caught with their guard down.
Casualties were inevitable…
In the best-case scenario, the Vanguard was about to take heavy injuries. In the worst-case scenario, the front line would be slaughtered.
But the reinforcements arrived.
They dropped out of the sky with seconds to spare, beating Selthia's own marching reinforcements by a razor-thin margin.
Victor slammed into the vanguard of the enraged mutant charge like a falling meteor. Riding his winged Qilin, he summoned massive boulders from the sky that crushed the leading beasts into the dirt. The moment the rocks hit the ground, they seamlessly reformed into a towering earthen barricade, breaking the momentum of the charge before it could trample the human infantry.
Right beside him, Taro dropped to the ground and instantly anchored the terrain. He threw up a secondary wall of hardened earth right next to Victor's barricade, reinforcing the perimeter and completely stalling the advance in a big zone.
Larissa and Luna touched down directly beside Selphira.
They seamlessly linked their own immense ice elemental output with the matriarch's domain, feeding their draconic power directly into her freezing aura. Together, the two of them, three, technically, factoring in Selphira's already used output, finally managed to arrest the entire rushing tide.
The reinforced ice field rapidly expanded, and Selthia's blind, furious charge crashed uselessly against a wall of deep winter that refused to yield another inch.
Sirius and Liu, meanwhile, took over the immediate rescue operations.
There were still human Tamers pinned down in the mud beyond the ice wall. The initial surprise charge had caught too many soldiers out of position, leaving them stranded perilously close to three of the surviving five Diamond titans that had managed to plow through the frost.
They were in imminent danger of being crushed underfoot or swallowed whole.
Sirius vanished into the dark, utilizing his rapid shadow jumps and the sovereign ring's amplification, while Liu descended from above on his massive vampire bat. The two commanders swept through the danger zone, physically yanking the fallen soldiers out from under the shadows of the stomping titans mere seconds before the colossal beasts brought their weight down.
One by one, they hauled them back behind the ice wall. Battered, bruised, and heavily concussed, but alive.
The arrival of the six elite reinforcements had salvaged a catastrophic blunder. What was supposed to be a bloody massacre, Selthia's angry reprisal for her murdered titan, had been downgraded to only a terrifying scare.
The Vanguard suffered a handful of injuries, and the front line buckled hard, yet the perimeter held.
♢♢♢♢
The human reinforcements had officially joined the fray.
But humanity was not the only side receiving fresh troops.
Out on the northern horizon, Selthia's own reinforcements finally breached the valley. The hundred Platinum beasts and the single Diamond mutant she had rerouted from the capital were marching straight into the war zone, ready to throw their weight into the grinding siege.
Her active numbers on the peak, which the Vanguard's brutal efficiency had whittled down to roughly one hundred and sixty Platinums and five Diamonds, were about to swell once again.
Two hundred and sixty Platinums… Plus six Diamond titans.
The northern siege, which had been steadily tipping in humanity's favor, was about to rebalance itself.
Standing behind the ice wall, Selphira watched the massive cloud of dust rising from the enemy's marching columns. With the cold, unshakeable calm forged by four centuries of warfare, she recalculated the board.
Yes, the girl was adding over a hundred fresh elites and another titan to the scale. But Selphira had just received six of the kingdom's most devastating hitters, all of whom were currently still overflowing with ancient dragon energy.
Furthermore, the battered Light Guardian was still relentlessly pouring blinding holy beams directly into Selthia's formations.
"More of them are coming," Selphira announced to the Vanguard, her steady voice cutting clearly through the roar of the battlefield. "Hold the line and prepare yourselves… This war is not over yet!"
She paused for a beat, a dry, dangerous smile tugging at the corner of her mouth.
"However, we brought our own guests to the party... And ours hit significantly harder!"
