Chapter 251: The Dullahan
Chapter 251: The Dullahan
The horse passed through me as if it was a phantom. At the same time, the dullahan cracked its whip and hopped onto the horse’s back. They galloped until they were both flying in the sky. The dullahan swirled its whip as the horse galloped through the air.
The swirling of the whip caused the wind to pick up. The air around crackled as if a small tornado was about to pick up. I planted my feet on the ground and stood ready for its final attack. The black smoke oozing from where the demon’s head was supposed to be intensified.
The horse neighed loudly, the sound it travelling like a speaker as it stood on its back legs. At the same time, the dullahan cracked its whip. I tuned all my senses, focusing on the whip. I felt the vibration of the air on my skin. I could hear the sound of the whip heading towards me.
Just from the sound, I could map out its entire trajectory. It took a while, but I could finally sense it all. I watched the attack move towards me, and the moment it was close enough, I grabbed the whip. The sonic explosion was caused every time the tip of the whip moved above the speed of sound.
By grabbing the tip of the whip before that could happen, I managed to stop the explosion. Then, summoning all my strength, I pulled the headless horseman from the horse’s back. The demon tried to resist, but physically I was much stronger than him.
In the end, he was pulled from the horse and landed on the ground. But through all of it, he managed to maintain his grip on his whip. It was his only weapon, and losing it would cost him, so he held onto it with all his might.
Still, I dragged the demon along the ground, pulling it closer to me. With one powerful tug, I lifted the demon off the ground and brought it flying through the air towards me. The moment the dullahan was close enough, I planted my claws into its chest and slammed it to the ground. Its body crashed onto the ground, creating a large crater, and in the process, it was forced to release the whip.
The dullahan curled up into a ball on the ground from the force of the strike.
The horse as if sensing it’s master’s pain, reeled and charged at me, but I stopped it in its tracks by releasing my bloodlust. My killing intent shrouded the beast, stopping its wild charge.
With the horse out of the way, I threw the whip to the side and focused my attention back at the dullahan.
The demon kicked itself to its feet and tried to throw a punch but I easily ducked below the attack and planted my claws into the dullahan’s stomach where the armor was lightest.
I smashed through its armor with ease causing black blood to spurt out. As if in disbelief, the demon staggered backwards holding its stomach.
The demon wasn’t weak when it came to hand-to-hand combat, but I was significantly stronger. He would’ve put up a great fight against most of the creatures in this city without his weapon. But it was blatantly obvious that his whip was his main advantage in combat.
Before it could get far, I grabbed the demon by the straps on its armor. I then raised him into the air and slammed him down onto the ground. The sound of his bones breaking could be heard upon impact.
His horse neighed and acted wildly as if in panic, but still, it stood its ground out of fear.
"Stay down," I commanded.
The dullahan clutched its wounds, which were sprouting out black blood. Still, even with its wounds, the dullahan wouldn’t stay down.
I may have to kill him.
Stubbornly, despite my warnings, the dullahan climbed to its feet, its armor clinking with every movement. With every movement, I couldn’t help but be reminded of a knight. Even though we were fighting just seconds ago, I felt relaxed watching the dullahan’s movements.
So much so that I even allowed it to approach me after climbing to its feet. The demon limped towards me with its hand on its wounds. There was black blood seeping out of its armor, and its limbs were twisted from me slamming him down on the ground.
The demon continued to approach until it stood directly in front of me. The dullahan was a lot taller than me; if I had to guess, it stood roughly 7 feet tall even without a head.
The two of us stood face to face, and for a moment, I was unsure of what would happen. The two of us stood like this until finally, the demon made a move. The dullahan bowed its head, then fell onto one knee, and at the same time, a system message popped up.
[The Dullahan wishes to join your phantom pack, do you accept?][Y/N]
My general.
That was the first thing that came to mind the moment I saw the system notification. I needed a general. Someone qualified in keeping my pack in line. Someone who could make sure that the fighters I have today would never lose their way.
That was part of the issue with some of the people of this city. They lived a life of comfort so long that they became spoiled and soft. The dullahan could make sure that my pack wouldn’t end up like that.
More than that, he would be my right-hand man.
My dullahan.
Looking down at the creature in front of me, I couldn’t help but feel excited.
"Yes."
Without hesitation, I clicked yes and added the demon to my phantom pack.
[Description: A headless horseman that traveled the depths of Tartarus in search of a master. The dullahan travels atop a phantom black horse. Its whip is a powerful weapon built from the spine of a titan, but by far the dullahan’s most powerful weapon is its severed head.]
The dullahan’s most powerful weapon is its severed head?! It didn’t use this weapon in the fight just moments ago.
It really didn’t want to harm me.
Another thing that caught my attention was the description of its whip.
What is a titan?
