Chapter 252: A Hidden Wish
Chapter 252: A Hidden Wish
A titan?
’What kind of creature is that?’ I wondered.
I was mostly interested because I saw firsthand the power of the whip, which seemed to be made out of a creature’s spine. But for now, I guess it was of no consequence. I instead focused on the dullahan kneeling in front of me.
"You are now a part of my phantom pack. Which means from now on you’ll be my general."
The demon couldn’t speak, but just like Cerberus, I could sense its intentions perfectly. It also seemed as if the wounds inflicted earlier were healing. The dullahan’s horse also seemed to calm down the moment I accepted him as part of my phantom pack.
I suppressed my bloodlust, and immediately the creature began walking towards me. The dullahan didn’t react or even glance at the horse as I reached out and began petting the strange creature.
The horse let out a satisfied neigh and shook its beautiful black mane. As I petted the horse, I turned my attention to the dullahan and issued my first command.
"Not far from here there is a mansion. Inside there is a beautiful red-haired woman named Aphrodite. I want you to kill her and bring her head back to me."
"What?! You’re planning to go after the witches!"
The person who spoke was none other than Mariah. She had witnessed the end of the battle and had been watching quietly.
"If you do this, then the remaining witches will surely come after you," Mariah said.
"The Dullahan is a demon. If a demon enters Purgatory and kills one of the queen witches, then it has nothing to do with me."
Besides, I couldn’t possibly let them live. Witches were schemers; I bet they are plotting against me as I speak. Aphrodite was the worst of them, she would do whatever it took to get her way. If I was careless, I could easily end up like Allucard or Cassian.
Even though I was the one who killed them, Aphrodite played her cards right to make sure it happened. Letting her live was just too much of a risk.
I wasn’t sure if the dullahan was strong enough to handle the witch of greed, since she seemed the more powerful of the two. I didn’t want to risk it, hence I only ordered him to kill Aphrodite.
Mariah stared at me, and a hint of understanding flashed across her face. She seemed to finally understand what I was thinking.
"You’re planning to make a move against the city now."
Indeed, her guess was correct. It was finally time for me to make my move.
"But why? You’re already one of the leaders. Why go against them?" she asked.
"It’s only a matter of time before Damian turns against me." I said simply.
I was positive Damian was making moves already. If he found a way to contact Selthia’s mother, then it could spell trouble for me. I didn’t know the relationship between the two; he could even bring her here. In that case, I needed to act fast and speed up my plans.
Mariah’s eyes seemed to sparkle as she finally began to understand everything. At the same time, the dullahan stood up and picked up its whip. Then, without a second’s hesitation, the demon climbed onto the back of its horse.
He turned its body in my direction and, after doing a gesture that resembled a nod, he kicked his horse, and the two were off. The horse galloped until it was running in mid-air. Mariah watched the horse gallop away with a look of amazement.
At the same time, my eyes drifted over to Khalissi, who was lying against a thicket of bushes, still unconscious. The horse had thrown her off its back during the conflict. Seeing that she was safe, I then returned my attention to Mariah.
"On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you want to see this city burn?" I asked in a neutral tone.
"What?!" My question seemed to startle her, and she looked at me as if I was crazy.
Without skipping a beat or changing my tone of voice, I asked the same question once again.
"On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you wish to see this city burn?"
Mariah continued to stare at me as if she couldn’t believe that I had asked such a question. After a few seconds, she finally regained her composure and answered the question.
"This place is all I’ve ever known. I was born in this city and lived here for a few hundred years. So if you were to ask me how I feel about this city, then the honest answer would be... I am sick and tired of this place. Every day for the past century, I have dreamed of burning it to the ground along with all its boring people. To many, this place is a home, but to me, it has always been a prison."
She let out a deep sigh after she had spoken what was in her heart. It was as if a weight had been lifted. She covered her mouth partially in disbelief, as if she couldn’t believe that those words had come from her.
But then, from her surprised face, a smile bloomed, followed by the sound of laughter. What came from her was the most beautiful laughter I had ever heard.
Of course, I knew what her answer to my question would be before I even asked. It was blatantly obvious, to me at least.
As she embraced her true desires, I walked over to her once again and extended my offer.
"Join me, and I will open a new world for you. You want love and passion? I’ll give that to you. You wish to experience freedom and adventure; you’ll experience it all if you stay by my side."
For a moment, her laughter stopped, and she stared at me as if she was in a trance. But then, a heartbeat later, she reached out her hand and took mine. Feeling the softness of her hands against me, I smiled, feeling satisfied, then pulled her into me.
Grabbing her waist felt right, and for a moment, I was reminded of what an attractive woman she was. At that moment, when I gazed into her eyes, what I saw was fear; fear for what her life would be like from now on but behind that fear was an undeniable spark of excitement.
She clung to me tightly, her fingers digging into my back, as I sank my fangs into her soft neck.
