Werewolf Leveling: Building the Strongest Pack in the Apocalypse

Chapter 263: In the Distant Sky

Chapter 263: In the Distant Sky

I held his hand in place. I didn’t want to give him the opportunity to strike again, if only to delay his reaction for a second. In that second, I unleashed everything that I had held inside my shadow realm.

Immediately, the shadow beneath my feet began to swirl and dance. But this time, it seemed different. The shadows felt as if they were given life. They danced and began to spread out onto the rooftop. Damian’s eyes widened, and he swung his arm like an axe, aiming to decapitate me.

My mind was foggy from being impaled in the chest, but I held onto every bit of my consciousness and I swung my head forward in an effort to headbutt him, but at my level, my speed couldn’t possibly compare to his.

But speed means nothing when time itself stops. Sköll and Hati arrived just in the nick of time. Their eyes were burning with fury from seeing their alpha injured. They stopped time granting me 5 precious seconds. Damian’s hand grazed my neck before it stopped. This caused my headbutt to land squarely on the bridge of his nose.

This opportunity was perfect. Getting to this moment was risky; that’s why I didn’t try without evolving, but now that I had him in front of me in this position, I couldn’t resist the urge to end it right here and now.

Hidden in my pocket was the one weapon that could kill him. With time still frozen, I thrust it forward towards his heart. I couldn’t fight the excitement raging in my chest. Just the thought of killing him filled me with joy, but the moment the bone pierced his skin, I felt something cold grab my wrist.

’How? This should be impossible.’

I glanced over at Sköll and Hati to see the two of them shaking uncontrollably, their tails between their legs. Not only that, but the bloodlust emanating from Damian made it hard to breathe.

’He used his killing intent to counteract their ability. Sköll and Hati were still young. They didn’t have the strength or experience to fight against this monster’s bloodlust.’

Sensing the danger, I used my claws and ripped off my own hand to get away from his grasp. At that moment, my shadow exploded, forming a giant black cloud, and from it rained the thousands of vampires held inside my shadow realm.

This was enough of a distraction for me to slip out of Damian’s sight. It wasn’t just Damian who was drawn in by this anomaly, but the entirety of Odeika was. The vampires rained from the sky, crashing down. The only thing to break their fall was the people down below and the cold hard ground.

Most broke their limbs upon impact, and since there were thousands of them, the bodies began to pile up. It was a sight to behold.

Using the commotion, I got as far away from Damian as I could while also being careful of the vampires falling from the sky. The stump where my hand used to be hurt like hell, but at that moment, it was the least of my worries.

I watched them fall from the sky from atop a building, waiting until the time was right. Some of the vampires had already begun climbing to their feet, and being starved vampires, they immediately went after the civilians for blood.

I watched it all happen while staying on the move. My hand healed in no time, and soon all the vampires were back in Purgatory. That was when I finally activated my technique and turned them all into ghouls. At once, all the vampires clutched their stomachs and fell to the ground.

The sounds of their agonizing wails echoed loud through the air. The naturally pale skin of the vampires turned as white as snow. While the whites of their eyes turned black. It wasn’t just their physical appearance that changed, but their minds too.

Where the vampires once craved blood, the only thing the ghouls desired was raw flesh. Their desire for flesh corroded their minds, turning them into creatures that could only be considered monsters.

The ghouls, now driven by an unbearable hunger, threw themselves at the civilians who were now forced to protect themselves. But it only took one scratch for them to become ghouls themselves, creating an endless cycle.

In 24 hours, everyone who was turned into a ghoul would be dead. If I evolve at level 75 like what Khalissi speculated, then my evolution should come soon.

When Khalissi did the calculations before, I needed to kill 27,000 people in a city of 4 million. Things have changed since then. I killed Cassian and a few others, which means I actually need less EXP if I’m going to evolve.

There were still a large number of people who were going to die, but I should get to that number in no time.

Just then, I spotted a group of creatures flying through the night sky. For a moment, I thought it was Selice and the other valkyries, but upon closer inspection, I realized I was wrong. What I saw weren’t Valkyries. They were bloodmoths.

"Khalissi?"

I should’ve known. She wanted to use this moment as a means to evolve too. Considering she risked her life to protect me against the dullahan, I didn’t mind what she was doing.

The bloodmoths swooped down from the sky and sank their large fangs into the panicking civilians down below. The sound of their wings reminded me of helicopters, and hearing them all together felt ominous.

It was like an omen of death, but at this moment, it felt fitting.

Further off in the distant sky, I could finally see the valkyries approaching. It felt like a coming apocalypse. I could sense the fear rising in the air, and strangely, it made me feel excited for what was to come.

Seeing the beautiful women of the valkyries approaching from the night sky, one would’ve thought they were angels. If it wasn’t for their black wings then even I would be fooled.

Their armor was far too revealing to even be considered armor. It looked more like swimsuits. What made me refer to it as armor was the fact that it was made from iron.

They came forth with a fury, wielding spears, swords, and arrows.

Selice told me she would turn her women into proper warriors. Looking at them, it seemed she had done just that.

I watched the slaughter take place, feeling satisfied, but soon it was time for me to join in on the fun too. The smell of blood and the sound of battle caused my heart to race. In the end, I couldn’t hold back my urge to kill and leaped into battle with my pack.
