Werewolf Leveling: Building the Strongest Pack in the Apocalypse

Chapter 286: A Visitor

Chapter 286: A Visitor

In a wild, chaotic attack, all the wraiths set on Damian like a swarm of bees protecting their hive.

Damian roared loudly as the first wraith came at him. His long, pointed nails tore through the wraith, leaving only the creature’s lower half standing in the aftermath of the attack.

Wraiths had the ability to lower someone’s life force with just a single touch. With hundreds of wraiths coming after him, Damian understood the gravity of the situation.

With the giant wings on his back, he created a powerful gust of wings as he dove into the sky.

The wraiths didn’t waste a second and followed after him, hungry to claim what was left of his life.

The wraiths moved like ghosts through the sky. Their swift movements made it look as if their bodies were made of feathers. They left behind a dark trail in the sky with every movement.

Damian was equally as fast, if not faster. He maneuvered through the incoming wraiths, making sure not to get touched or scratched.

While Damian was dealing with the wraiths, I took sharp, deep breaths. The Dullahan approached me and bowed on its knees in front of me.

"You did good," I said. "Go rest with the others. Those wraiths won’t be enough to kill him. He’ll be back soon."

With those words, my phantom pack returned to my shadow. I did the same as them and decided to use the time I had to rest.

I leaned against a wall as I began closing my eyes and drifting off. I had my shadow ravens keeping an eye on Damian, so I didn’t have to worry about being killed while I slept.

"You’re just as lazy as ever."

As I dozed, I heard a familiar voice above me. I slowly opened my eyes to see a face that looked almost identical to mine, if I was a girl or a bit cuter.

"Liora?"

For a moment, I thought I must’ve been dreaming or hallucinating. I couldn’t see her face clearly because of my heat signature skill being active, but I knew her features.

Feeling that it might be an illusion, I reached out my hand and touched her face.

It really was her.

"Don’t worry, it really is me," she whispered.

I felt a bit of dampness on my hand as I touched her face.

Is she crying?

Not only that, but a strange dark aura was surrounding her.

"Are you OK? There is some kind of energy surrounding you," I said.

She interlaced her hand with mine and smiled.

"Yes, I’m fine. That demon is using her magic to protect me from the heat coming from you. Without it, I would’ve melted like candle wax before I could even get close to you," she chuckled.

So this was all Khalissi’s doing. It seemed she had gotten my message out to Persephone.

I wanted Persephone to get the rest of my pack here. With them, it would become easier to take over the city.

"Listen up, we don’t have much time. That demon, I mean, Khalissi, told me that your body is going to undergo something called supernova. If this happens after you evolve, then the damage will be catastrophic. If that happens, we need you to control yourself. Limit the blast radius to the city if you can."

Supernova? Blast?

I couldn’t understand what Liora was saying, but from the look on her face, I could tell she was dead serious.

"If that is the case, then you guys need to leave. Get everyone out of this city," I said.

"We’ll do that after you evolve. That was our goal in coming here anyway," she said stubbornly.

"What if the explosion happens before I evolve?" I asked.

"If you contain the blast, then it won’t have as huge of an impact. Just do your best to survive here. I’m uh..." Suddenly, she averted her gaze and began scratching her chin awkwardly. "I’m proud of you."

Hearing those words, I reached out and touched her on the top of the head.

"I should be the one saying that. It sounds awkward when you say it, so don’t do it again."

"You jerk!" she harrumphed and stomped her feet. "I was being sincere. Seeing you like this... I don’t want to leave you again."

"I know. You’re a bigger crybaby than Allison."

Seeing that she was on the verge of tears, I grabbed and pulled her in for a hug.

"Don’t worry, I won’t die easily," I said as I stroked her hair.

She nodded and wiped the tears from her eyes.

"Lily is also waiting for you. I think she misses torturing you. She has been a bit down lately, so... make sure you come back."

With those words, Liora stood up and turned on her heels to leave. I was surprised she didn’t turn around or look back as she walked away.

She had grown a lot.

I wonder how Derrick is doing?

I bet Allison is still a crybaby.

I couldn’t die. I had a family in the apocalypse to take care of.

I could hear loud growls and snarls in the distance, accompanied by the overbearing stench of death. It permeated throughout the entire city. Off in the distance, I could see black lines drawn in the sky from the wraiths’ movements.

But these lines were getting less and less.

The wraiths were dying out.

Not even a hundred wraiths could bring him down to the underworld. I was beginning to doubt if anything could. Even if I evolved, who’s to say that I could even defeat him?

Time passed, and slowly, the amount of wraiths fighting against Damian slowly diminished.

As the wraiths fell, my level increased. Sitting down for this long, I realized I couldn’t move an inch. My body just wouldn’t listen to me. It was now or never. Looking up at the sky, I watched as Damian fought against the last two wraiths in the sky.

[Congratulations! You have ascended to level 99]

He moved like a predator through the sky, and in no time, both wraiths were killed almost at the same time. Like a dark lord reigning over the city, Damian set his sight on me. I could feel his piercing gaze and the weight it held.
