Chapter 287: First Evolution
Chapter 287: First Evolution
"Hey, what are you doing?! Let go of me!" Khalissi shouted as she thrashed around in the sky. Allison was holding onto her legs.
"You’re going to see my brother again, aren’t you? I want to come with you," Allison said stubbornly, holding onto Khalissi’s legs.
Khalissi couldn’t help but feel annoyed at this.
"You’re just slowing me down. We’re supposed to be leaving the city. You should be with the others. If the supernova occurs, then you will be killed."
"And so will you," Allison quickly shot back.
Seeing the girl adamantly holding onto her legs, Khalissi had no choice but to proceed forward through the sky. She had no intentions of turning back, even though she knew just how dangerous what she was doing was.
She had done the calculations and knew that most of the people in Purgatory were wiped out. Which meant Liam should be just about ready to evolve.
Off in the distance, she could see a handful of wraiths, but they all seemed to be distracted by something. She made sure to fly at a higher altitude while hiding behind the clouds to make sure she didn’t encounter the wraiths or what they were fighting against.
Soon, she arrived at a position where she could see Liam clearly without being detected. He was sitting on the ground, leaning against a wall.
"He looks injured," Allison commented, her voice sounding worried.
Khalissi said nothing and only watched silently.
"You said my brother is going to evolve, right? What kind of evolution will he undergo?" Allison asked.
"Depends on his bloodline," Khalissi answered.
Khalissi’s answer caused Allison to furrow her brow and look at Khalissi suspiciously.
"How do you know so much about my brother? My family hardly knows anything."
"Is that really true?" Khalissi asked, looking at the girl holding onto her curiously. "I thought you knew more than you let on."
Allison raised an eyebrow and shrugged.
"All I knew is that when I was a little, my parents told me I would be getting a little sister to play with, but when they came home, I ended up with a little brother too. I was confused since my parents didn’t tell me anything about me getting a brother, only that I would be getting a sister. And not only that, but both twins had black hair, while Mom, me, and Derrick had white hair. I was confused, but I didn’t dwell on it; eventually, I accepted both Liora and Liam as my siblings."
Hearing Allison’s words, Khalissi was finally beginning to get a grasp of the situation.
"He must’ve sent his son into the pregnant stomach of someone from Earth. That woman just so happened to be a werewolf. I bet Lilith must’ve been against it. She must’ve known something like this would happen. I have to admit... sending away your own child, that’s ruthless even for you, Lucifer," Khalissi mumbled to herself before her eyes drifted to Liam.
Suddenly, the spiraling mass of energy around him increased tenfold. It was as if he was in the middle of a storm of flames that continued to grow in size. Allison’s eyes widened in shock as she feared the worst.
"A demonic wolf with a draconic bloodline... what would you even call such a creature?"
Just as that thought crossed Khalissi’s mind, she saw a black silhouette dive into the storm of flames.
"Damian," she mumbled exhaustedly before saying, "Come on, let’s go before things get any worse."
...
[Initializing evolution...]
Reading the system message that popped up, I felt a bit of relief.
Finally...
Just as I began to feel relief from evolving, a tornado of glowing orange flames circled around me. Outside the tornado, I could see more flames raging on, as if I was trapped at the center of a storm.
It burnt...
For the first time in my life, I was experiencing intense heat. It wasn’t the flames that were burning, but something inside of me. I looked down at my hand, and the veins were bulging. It looked as if I had magma running through my veins.
Steam began oozing from my skin. The steam smelled like blood. It felt as if my body was changing somehow; somewhere deep inside me. My skin felt as if it had thickened; my bones became denser.
I could feel a strange rush of energy pouring into my body.
Is this mana?
I was almost certain of it. Magical energy was pouring into my body as a hidden part of my genetics was unlocked.
[Evolution complete! You have unlocked your draconic bloodline!]
My eyes widened as I read the words that had popped up on the screen in front of me.
Draconic bloodline?
"I had the same bloodline as a dragon."
So this is where my heat manipulation ability and my thermal vision skill came from. From the moment the apocalypse started, I knew that I was different from the other werewolves since I was receiving different skills from them.
Khalissi said that there was one more bloodline I needed to unlock. At this moment, I was fairly certain it was a demonic bloodline. The reason for this assumption was my shadow hounds. They were demons, and only high-ranked demons could lead a legion of demonic creatures.
Another reason was that I had a skill called Demon Lord that allowed me to receive EXP when someone in my pack kills something. That skill must’ve been given because of my hidden demonic bloodline.
I also had a suspicion of another of my skills, the Hellfire skill. My gut told me it was a mixture of both bloodlines. The two bloodlines must’ve merged to create a new skill.
Still, there was one skill I was certain about: Ethereal Sight...
What bloodline was that skill from?
Just as that thought crossed my mind, I spotted something. It was the outline of someone or something slowly walking towards me through the flames, as if they were nonexistent.
At that moment, I put all my questions aside as I focused on the person approaching.
Damian Dracule marched through the flames, with bat-like wings on his back and eyes the same color of blood.
