Chapter 302 302: A Mother's Love

After failing to convince her son to leave, Lilith rushed back home to Hel to talk to the only person she knew could bring her son back home. She raised her dress and rushed through the halls. This naturally drew the attention of the demons present in the castle.

They all looked at her. The usual calm beauty seemed panicked by something. They all knew it must've had something to do with one of her children. Only that could cause this normally cold-hearted woman to panic.

Lilith noticed the other demons' stares, but she didn't care; she was almost at her destination. But just as she arrived at the entrance to the throne room, someone blocked her path.

"Mother, is something wrong?"

Appearing in front of Lilith was an elegant beauty that closely matched her in appearance. She had white-silver hair, the same as Lilith, as well as two obsidian-like horns on top of her head. Her bright orange eyes looked at Lilith with warmth.

The moment she appeared, Lilith was slightly taken aback.

"Astrid," Lilith said in disbelief before hugging her daughter. "When did you return?"

The reason Lilith was surprised by Astrid's sudden appearance was that she hadn't seen her daughter in years. Astrid had spent the last few centuries training under her uncle, the dragon king, Conquest. She had hoped to master her draconic bloodline, and after centuries, she had returned.

"I returned only a few days ago. I was surprised to see you were not here. Father told me that you had gone somewhere, but he wouldn't tell me where or why. He said it was your secret to tell."

Hearing that, Lilith cupped her daughter's face.

"Don't worry about that for now, sweet child."

Lilith smiled warmly.

"I hope my brother has treated you well these past few years."

Astrid smiled.

"Conquest is just as brutish as ever. Sometimes I think he hates me."

"Don't worry, my child. My brother hates everyone, even me, his own sister."

Astrid giggled.

"True, but he always saw to my proper training. Oh, by the way..." Astrid's face suddenly turned serious. "Why were you rushing through the halls? Did something happen with one of my siblings?"

Lilith shook her head.

"Nothing to worry about. It's just your brother Theon being stubborn again."

Astrid frowned.

"You know how he is. He's always trying to prove himself to Father. It's because he's the weakest..."

Lilith quickly covered her daughter's mouth.

"Don't say such things; your brother is a powerful arch-demon."

Astrid slowly removed her mother's hand.

"Yes, but compared to us he's weak. He was always lagging behind in terms of strength." Astrid took her mother by the hand. "If you want to get him to comply, then you have to use force. With your strength, it would be easy."

Lilith shook her head, dismissing the thought completely.

"He would hate me. I couldn't bear the thought of it. I'll just convince your father to bring him back home instead."

Astrid sighed.

"Good luck, both of them are stubborn."

"Then I'll just have to make him understand," Lilith said, assuring her daughter before kissing her on the forehead. "I just want the best for all my children."

A bit reluctantly, Lilith parted with her daughter and continued towards the throne room. After taking a deep breath, she shoved the massive door to the throne room open.

The vast space that unfolded before her was dimly lit. At the back of the room was a throne, and leading up to the throne were the skulls of the world-ending creatures Lucifer had personally slain; all lined out like trophies leading to his throne.

Lucifer sat on his throne, his fist resting against the side of his face. The black horns on top of his head shone like polished obsidian against the crackling flames of the fire pit that kept the room partially lit.

Seeing her domineering husband, Lilith took a deep breath and forced a smile as she approached him.

Lucifer's eyes were closed, but hearing the footsteps approaching, his eyes slowly opened, revealing the blood-red gems beneath.

Climbing the stairs towards him, Lilith perched herself in his lap and wrapped her slender arms around his neck.

"Darling, you look tired. You should get some rest. Come to bed with me."

Lucifer's eyes finally landed on her and his lips parted to utter a single sentence.

"You want something, what is it?"

Hearing that question, Lilith hurriedly spoke; she knew the demon king Lucifer was a man of little patience.

"It's our son, Theon. I wanted him to come home for a bit, but he's being stubborn. Can you order him to return? He would never refuse you."

"Why do you want him here?"

"A mother just wants to spend some time with her child. Can you do this for me, please? I'm worried about him," Lilith said, leaning against her husband's chest.

"Does your need for Theon to return somehow have something to do with that boy?" the demon king asked.

Hearing such a question and the way the demon king spoke in a detached way, Lilith felt a twinge of anger rising in her chest, but she stifled it.

"What boy?" she asked, still keeping her sweet tone.

The demon king didn't react; the entire course of conversation seemed uninteresting to him.

"The one we left in that world. He's working against us. I can sense it."

Lilith's heart quickened, but she didn't say a word out of fear of what she would say; instead, she allowed Lucifer to continue.

"I'll give you one piece of advice. If that boy is working against us, then I advise you to do the honor and kill him yourself."

Lilith bit her tongue until blood flowed from the side of her mouth, but even then she couldn't keep quiet any longer.

"You forced me to give him up, now you want me to kill him. How cruel can you get?" she snapped.

"Having my own son fight against me is bad enough. If I ever get my hands on him, then you wouldn't like the outcome."

Lilith's eyes glowed bright orange and became slitted while her bloodlust enveloped the entire castle. Except for the demon king, everyone inside the castle felt an unimaginable terror.

"Careful," the demon king warned.

A single warning was all it took. Her eyes returned to normal and her bloodlust faded.

"I remember you renouncing him as your son, now suddenly you've changed and want to protect him. You were always weak to whatever parasite that crawled out your body."

Lilith bit her lips. She didn't want to incur his wrath with another rude outburst so with nothing else to say, she stood up and left without saying a word.

Lucifer only spared her a slight glance as she walked away before closing his eyes.
