Chapter 309 309: A small smile

[Khalissi's POV]

I somehow knew things were going to change for the worse the moment Andros showed up. He is unpredictable, and there are rumors that he wishes to take Lucifer's place as the King of Hel.

He is the most ambitious of all of Lucifer's children.

"Heya."

He raised his hand and grinned as if greeting old friends. The demon slayer had his sword pointed toward Andrus, as if he could feel the threat coming from him. A city filled with adventurers soon turned their attention to him.

Andros didn't spare them a glance as he strode forward. He looked at everything with amusement, as if the whole world was his playground.

Without even batting an eye, he knelt down in front of me and raised my chin so I was looking directly at him.

"You're a demon, aren't you?"

ZING!

Immediately as he said those words, the demon slayer's sword was swung, decapitating him with a single swing. The phoenix's head rolled on the ground before eventually coming to a stop, and the demon slayer kicked over his headless body before spitting on his corpse.

At that moment, it felt as if everyone present let out a breath of relief.

But they were wrong.

In the next second, Andros's entire body combusted into bright orange flames. His body burned until nothing but ashes remained, and from the ashes, a new Andrus emerged.

The adventurers present immediately went on their guard as the demon slayer's face twisted into a scowl. Andros reappeared in front of me, still kneeling down. He still wore his wide grin as if his head hadn't been chopped off just a second ago.

He didn't even spare a glance at the person who had just chopped off his head and instead continued to stare at me.

"A-Arch demon Andros, it's a pleasure to meet you," I said, trying to sound calm and composed, but I was too freaked out and I stuttered over my words.

Something about him caused an uneasiness to form in my chest. My instincts screamed at me to leave.

"Hey…"

The demon slayer had his sword raised and pointed it at Andros. It was only then that Andros gave him the courtesy of a glance.

His smile seemed to widen as he finally looked at the so-called demon slayer.

"Ah, you're the one they call the demon slayer, aren't you?"

ZING!

The demon slayer didn't say a word and instead swung his sword at Andros once again. In response, Andros raised his index finger and stopped the blade just before it touched his neck.

The demon slayer's eyes widened in surprise.

"Demon slayer, you have a lot of potential, but you're still too weak, so I'm leaving you for now," Andros said before turning his back to him.

The demon slayer's eyes flared with anger. He felt humiliated and that he was being looked down on by a demon, no less.

His grip tightened on his weapon as black aura seeped from his entire body, but just then, a powerful bloodlust escaped from Andros. Immediately, all of the adventurers surrounding him collapsed.

Even Kumo, who was frozen from Andros's presence, couldn't fight against his overwhelming bloodlust and eventually passed out just like the others. Only I was shielded from it. He was protecting me for some reason.

The demon slayer gritted his teeth as the black aura that was seeping from his body finally dissipated. His legs weakened, and he fell down to one knee, still clutching his blade tightly as he clung to consciousness.

He let out a loud guttural roar as he tried to stand up and fight, but the moment he tried to push himself off the ground, he collapsed, fainting on the spot.

Andros didn't spare him a glance and only reached his hand out to me.

"Come with me, Khalissi."

With no other choice, I took it, and soon the two of us were soaring through the skies.

'What is he planning?' I couldn't help but wonder.

I had heard several rumors about him plotting to usurp Lucifer's place as the demon king. In terms of strength, he was powerful, probably the most powerful of Lucifer's children, still, he didn't stand a chance against Conquest, much less Lucifer.

Thinking about what Andros might be plotting, my heart couldn't help but flutter. Whatever it was, I had a bad feeling.

Suddenly, thoughts of the past began resurfacing in my mind. I began thinking back to when we were kids and Lilith and I used to play together. The two of us had white hair and were similar in appearance, so we used to pretend that we were sisters.

We held the same dreams and made promises to one another. Promises that were later broken.

Now, years later, Lilith had married the man the both of us loved, and I was beginning to develop feelings for their son.

This all just felt like a horrible mess.

Strangely, I could feel something wet running down my face. I quickly wiped it away to see it was tears. I couldn't remember the last time I cried.

As my mind was preoccupied with thoughts of the past, I soon realized we were descending.

"Looks like everyone is here," Andrus chuckled in amusement.

Soon we landed on the ground, and I could get a plain view of everyone present.

Liam is here…

My mind blocked out everyone else present. I could only focus on him. My heart felt as if it was pounding in my chest.

It wasn't fear.

It should've been, considering I was in the jaws of an arch demon, but it wasn't.

Liam was also looking at me. Our eyes met. He seemed worried.

Is it for me?

A small smile appeared on my face, but I quickly bowed my head.

I didn't want him to see that I was smiling or that I had been crying before.

It was just too embarrassing.

"KHALISSI!"

I suddenly raised my head when I heard him call my name.

That was the only reason I raised my head.

I didn't even realize that Andros's fist was impaled in my chest.

A part of me didn't even care since Liam called out to me.

He was coming toward me.

Maybe…

Just maybe he may hug me…

Or something more.
