Chapter 308 308: Family meeting

Chapter 308 308: Family meeting

"ENOUGH!"

The air around me crackled with magic so intense that both the wyvern king and I were forced to stop. It was power unlike anything I had ever felt before. For a brief moment, it was as if time itself heeded her commands and stopped.

Before us stood a woman with long white hair. Looking at her, I couldn't tell whether she was a dragon, a demon, or both. She had eyes the same color as flames, as well as black wings wrapped around her waist.

On her back were a large pair of dragon-like wings and on her head was obsidian like horns that twisted like tree branches. A wave of threatening aura poured out of her as she held onto a young girl who looked similar to her in appearance. However, this girl was covered in blue scales on her tail and wings.

Seeing the woman before us, Theon's anger flared.

"Mother," he growled, the words coming out as if he were spitting them. "This is the reason you wanted me to go back to the demon world, isn't it?!"

Hearing the wyvern king's words, the woman's face strangely softened. This caused me to take a step back. If this woman was his mother, then I was screwed.

I had to escape.

Immediately, I tried to switch places with one of my void hounds, but just then, I felt something grab my hand.

The woman was now in front of me.

My skills wouldn't work.

No matter how much I tried to switch places with them, it was as if they were being canceled. The hellfire that once shrouded my body had disappeared in an instant.

The woman in front of me wore a demonic smile. I reacted instantly and swung my claws at her, but they didn't even affect her. Even as my claws pressed into her side, she still wore a smile.

Suddenly, her hands reached out, and instantly I moved to block my face. I prepared myself to get attacked, but in the next second, I felt something soft touch my cheek.

Confused, I slowly opened my eyes to see the woman before me smiling. Except it wasn't a demonic smile as I first thought. It was a warm smile, as tears lined the corners of her eyes.

For a moment, I didn't know what to do, and I could only stand helplessly as the woman proceeded to wrap her arms around me.

"My son."

Son?

For a moment, I thought I might have heard wrong, but from the way the woman was acting, I was certain she thought that I was her son.

Was I her son?

I couldn't help but ask that question. There were many things that would lead me to that conclusion. The fact that I had a draconic bloodline would explain it. And there was always some mystery around my birth.

If I thought about it objectively, then there was a high possibility that this woman was my mother, but who even was this woman?

The wyvern king called her mother, and he was an arch demon, a child of Lucifer. Did that also mean?

"Who are you?"

The question slipped out before I could stop it.

The woman smiled.

"Don't worry, I'll explain everything. I just need you to come with me." She smiled and cupped my face before turning to the others. "I need all of you to come with me."

The wyvern king was the first to clench his fist and step forward.

"Mother, this isn't right. You know it. I refuse to go against Father."

"I agree with Theon. I can't go against Father," the girl with white hair stepped up to protest. "I've been training with Conquest precisely so that I can aid Father in battle, and now you're suggesting that I betray him for someone I didn't even know."

"If someone goes against Father, then it's our job to handle it. It doesn't matter if they are our siblings or not," the wyvern king agreed as he took a step forward, sword in hand.

"Enough of this. I am taking all of you with me, even if I have to drag you all by the ears. I care about you all, and I just want to see you safe. Lucifer is only using you."

ZING!

The wyvern king appeared right in front of her and pointed his sword at her throat.

"If you go against Father, then it means you are also my enemy," he said.

The woman didn't react to the wyvern king pointing his sword at her throat. She only smiled at him and took a step forward as she touched his face. She didn't even look at the blade pointed towards her.

"You may act cold, but I know just how kind you are, Theon. You are my son after all."

The Wyvern King had his sword pointed at her, but suddenly his hands began to shake, as if he could no longer handle the weight of holding it against his own mother.

Slowly, he dropped his sword, but his eyes were still piercing me.

"I'm doing this for your own good, Mother. I know you wouldn't be able to do what is needed to be done, and it will cost us all. If Father ever finds us, then it will mean the end for all of us. He won't spare us; I know him. He might even send our other sibling after us, and that will lead to more bloodshed," he said.

"I will protect all of my children. It doesn't matter who I have to fight." She replied stubbornly.

The Wyvern King held his head down, looking defeated, but the girl still seemed resistant to the idea.

"Astrid," she said, walking towards her daughter.

The girl, Astrid, raised her hand as if to warn her mother to stay back.

"Don't."

But she didn't heed the warning and quickly appeared in front of her.

"Astrid, what's more important? Your family or impressing that man?"

"You are being unfair. You can't just expect me to change just because of you or my siblings." She clenched her fist and held her head down in anger.

Seeing this, the woman reached out and hugged her. The girl didn't react; her fists were clenched tightly, and she seemed to be trembling in rage.

Soon, her cold eyes lifted up to me, and I felt the threat of death directed at me.

"Fine, just do whatever you want. It's not like I have the strength to stop you." Astrid finally relented, but I could still feel her rage.

Hearing her words, Lilith smiled.

"It will all be fine. I will protect you all…"

Just then, her words froze in her mouth as she directed her gaze to the sky. This prompted us all to follow her gaze to the sky.

Looking up, what we saw left us temporarily in shock, but the others seemed more shocked than me.

There was a giant bird-like creature flying in the sky.

Seeing it, I was reminded of the legendary bird.

"The phoenix?" I muttered to myself.

Looking at the woman, her face was pale, and she quickly turned to us in panic.

"We have to go now!" she shouted.

Theon clenched his teeth and raised his sword towards the figure flying towards us in the sky, but Astrid was smiling.

"It's our brother, Andros," she mumbled before turning to her mother. There was a cruel smile on her face. "You said you wanted to bring all your children with you. If that's the case, then there is one coming towards us."

My mother looked panicked. She quickly turned to me and grabbed me by the hand.

"We have to go!"

Even though she shouted, I barely grasped any of the words that came out of her mouth. My attention was drawn to something else.

"Khalissi," I muttered. She was being carried by the phoenix.

I quickly pulled my hand from my mother's grasp.

"I can't leave, not if Khalissi is here," I said stepping forward.

Even then, it was too late. The phoenix was flying at such a speed; it would be difficult to escape him. Soon, he landed on the ground and changed forms.

He was a tall young man with fiery orange hair, flame eyes, and different flame-like tattoos covering his entire body. He carried Khalissi in his arms. Her face was completely pale and I could hear her whisper my name softly.

"Liam."

Looking at all of us, a small smile grew on the phoenix's face before he turned to his mother, arms wide open.

"Lilith, don't tell me you gathered everyone here without inviting me," he grinned.

Lilith stepped forward to confront him, but just as she did, he raised his hand, and Lilith stopped in her tracks. Lilith wore a smile even though she seemed unnerved.

"Andros, my son, what are you doing here?"

Andros smiled as he answered.

"I'm here to dispel your lies," he said, before turning to me. "My youngest brother, Liam," he chuckled. "Don't tell me that you have fallen for her lies. Did you know she sent someone to kill this friend of yours?" he said, pointing to Khalissi.

Khalissi didn't respond. Her heart was racing inside her chest, which spoke to how terrified she was. She was trembling, and her eyes darted to me.

The look on her face was asking me for help.

To save her.

Hearing Andros's accusation, Lilith quickly turned to me.

"I only did that for your own good. That woman, Khalissi, was only using you to get back at me or to raise her standing in the demon army," she quickly said.

"So it is true." I said feeling a hint of disappointment.

She was the reason for all of this.

Andros's smile widened. It almost looked demonic, and I could feel the threat coming from him. As if by instinct, I knew exactly what he was thinking.

"Since my mother wanted her dead so badly, then as her son, I'll do the honors."

"No!" Lilith screamed and moved towards Andros.

In the second that her back was turned, I appeared behind Theon before he could react; my claws pressed against his back so he couldn't move.

My brother Theon... But right now it didn't matter.

I had to save Khalissi.

"Let her go." I commanded.

For a moment, it was as if time itself froze while Andros laughed like a maniac as he reveled in the chaos...

"Let her go!" I roared, and at the same time, he covered his face, masking a wide smile before his hand ripped through Khalissi's chest and pierced her heart.

In that moment, my anger surged. I heard Lilith's screams, but I didn't care; my hands moved on their own as I pulled out Theon's heart and moved towards Andros, leaving Theon's cold, lifeless body to fall to the ground.
