What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?

Chapter 1013: Contract With Reapers

Chapter 1013: Contract With Reapers

The meeting with the Reapers was happening in the same room so we did not need to change locations.

The only thing that needed to change was that all of us were now sitting and standing on one side of the room instead of having Patricia standing on the other side.

I will also just ignore the fact that Ries seemed to have basically taken a very vested interest in Patricia and was especially interested in the suit that she was wearing.

At least Patricia didn’t seem to mind and even looked quite excited to be sharing tech talk with Ries, the both of them already bonding over their apparent interest for tech and games.

Well... I guess I shouldn’t be surprised since they are actually quite similar in several ways after all.

The Reapers showed up exactly on time, the door sliding open the moment the numbers changed to the appointed time.

Six cloaked figures, all of them wearing masks of different designs to cover their faces, walked into the room silently.

I recognised Kale from his mask and instead of walking to the centre of the table, he chose to stand near the door, letting another of the Reapers take the seat in front of me.

The eye covers on the person’s mask lit up as they took in the people on my side of the room, which outnumbered them by three people currently.

"Tera of Teran Mercenary Company, correct?" The person asked, the voice sounding feminine.

I only noticed that her armour had two mounds jutting out at the chest area, meaning this was definitely a woman.

I quickly shifted my gaze upwards again to nod at her, "That’s right. And you are..."

"You can call me Nayek. I’m the leader of this assault team from the Reapers. That’s all you need to know."

I raised an eyebrow at her, "Ok? So... I assume that the plan is still in place, yes?"

She nodded, "Correct. We are resupplying at this station before we make our way to Xetarva. I’ve sent an advance team ahead to secure a bug nest for us to clear and you will follow us there for the first clear."

I looked at the people behind her, all of them standing menacingly with their arms crossed and their faces hidden behind their masks and hooded cloaks.

Not that I could say anything about that since my girls were basically doing the same thing behind me as well, both sides simply sizing each other up.

I shifted my gaze back to Nayek, "How many people are in your team?"

"Counting the advance team, that would be fifty of us in total. Would that be a problem?"

I tapped on my chin, "I know I’m the last person that should be saying this but... Are you sure that you guys are enough to deal with a bug nest?"

She seemed to have the wrong idea about why I was asking that question as she gestured towards me, "No need to worry, we won’t be asking you to do any of the heavy lifting. We just need you along as support and to consult while we raid the nest."

She must have thought I was assuming they would use us as meat shields or something but I was more worried that fifty people from them would not be enough to clear a bug nest.

I was going to correct her when she continued, "Additionally, my team is equipped with heavy weaponry which I believe should be more than enough to deal with the bugs we find."

Ah, I guess that’s why they are confident in dealing with hordes of bugs with just fifty people.

"When will you be able to head out?"

"By tomorrow. I suggest that you get everything ready before that as we will head out with or without you. If you do not head out with us, we will operate under the assumption that you have bailed on us."

I wasn’t offended since they must also be rushing to claim a spot in dealing with the bug nest since there were other Mercenary groups that were also participating and they could not risk losing out just because I was late.

I nodded at them, "We will be there. However, there are some terms that we would like to go through."

The woman in front of me paused before leaning forward slightly, "What terms?"

Vier then moved beside me, her draconian tail swishing through the air behind her idly as she made her presence known.

"I will be the one handling that."

There was a pause before Nayek spoke up, "Vieretha Iceborne... I was not aware that you have changed your base of operations."

Vier smiled at her, "Oh? I’m surprised you even know me."

"I would be a very ignorant person if someone in my position did not know about the members of the Iceborne family."

Geez... Is that meant to be throwing shade at me because I don’t even know who she was when I first met her?

Vier gave her a business smile, "Since you know who I am, this will make things easier. I have already sent the updated terms and conditions for working together with us to your personal terminal. Check it and let me know if it is acceptable to you."

The eye slits on Nayek’s mask flashed blue and I noticed the lines scrolling upwards on the surface of the glass, which meant that she was most likely reading through the terms right now.

I trusted Vier to handle this so I let her do what she wanted since she knows how these things should work better than I do at least.

Nayek took about a minute to look through the new terms before the eye slits changed back to red and she gave Vier a nod, "I assume that the first contract will only apply to the bug nests that we decide to have you accompany us to clear and the second contract will only apply to the subsequent bug nests that we clear on our own?"

Vier nodded, "That’s right."

There was a pause before the Reaper assault team leader spoke quietly, "Are you fully confident that you can also fulfil your side of the agreement?"

Vier gave the woman a pointed look, "You are currently looking at the only Mercenary group that was able to clear out three bug nests. That’s the quality you are buying."

"Hmm... Understood. We accept."

Nayek stood up and stretched out her hand towards Vier which she did not take. Instead, Vier shifted her gaze to look at me, subtly hinting that I should be the one to shake it instead.

I also understood why since she wanted there to be no questions to the Reapers that I was the one in charge here and Vier was part of my crew, not the other way around.

Nayek quickly shifted her hand to me when I stood up, giving me a firm shake before she stepped out with the rest of her team, leaving us in the room as the door slid shut again.

I immediately turned to Vier and raised an eyebrow, "What terms did you give her?"

She smiled at me, "Oh nothing too big. The first contract is for us to accompany them to the first bug nest where we will get forty percent of the total reward in exchange for making sure that their team will be able to get in and out of the nest safely."

Amber turned to raise an eyebrow at her, "Wait... We have to make sure they’re safe? Without using our powers?"

Vier shook her head, "You can avoid using it if you can help it, but if you have to... There is an additional clause in the contract that states that they are not allowed to speak or reveal our capabilities without our permission and if they do, we can come for them and take every single thing that they own and the entire Reaper company will also be implicated in it."

Mara turned to her in surprise which was a surprise by itself, "How did you even get the Reapers to agree to such a condition?"

"Like I said, they were looking at the only Mercenary team that have cleared multiple bug nests with just a small team. If I am not wrong, they should believe that we have some kind of secret weapon that allows us to clear the bugs easily so they want to study it and learn from us to use it in their subsequent clears. Especially since the second contract made it such that we only got ten percent of their rewards after that. They would then learn that our group’s capabilities are things they cannot replicate since they won’t have powers like we do."

The girls and I were just nodding along to Vier’s explanation when a very soft voice came from the side.

"I’m sorry... Umm... Powers?" Patricia asked.

Ah... Oops... Err... I forgot she doesn’t know yet...
