Chapter 869: I Intrigued Someone

The guests filed back into the hall now that the coast was clear.

I thought they had actually left but it turns out they were merely moved into a protective bunker that was prepared in the event that something like that happened.

Yuki’s security team had already gone out to make sure that there weren’t any other thugs waiting to storm into the hall to allow the guests to leave.

I joined them, making it look like I had also just entered the hall with the crowd instead of being one of the people that had been fighting against the thugs.

I’m not sure how Yuki is going to smooth this over for the guests since it’s still a problem that her event had experienced an external attack but... I suppose it’s none of my business anyway. We’re just hired to deal with Kaito, not preserve her company’s name.

As I slipped into the crowd that was being led out of the venue, I suddenly felt someone grab me from behind.

I had to suppress my instinct in attacking whoever it was that grabbed me as I turned to see it was Vieretha looking at me with her eyes glowing intensely.

"Lady Tera~ Please accept my invitation for dinner with me."

I blinked at her, "Umm... This is--"

"I know you were the one controlling those creatures."

Well shit... Then again, I guess I didn’t really hide it that well from her. I was really just hoping that it was just a chance meeting with her and she would just forget about me during the chaos.

Unfortunately... It seems like she didn’t forget about me...

I looked back at my girls and they were all giving me the slitting throat motion.

Come on... I’m not going to just kill someone just for that...

But... I guess it’s still a problem that she knows this... How do I make sure--

"If you go on this dinner with me, I will tell no one about this. And it will be on me."

Seems like she must have realised we didn’t have a place to stay yet so she grabbed me by the arm again, "I will arrange a place for you and your bodyguards. Follow me."

She still thinks my girls are my bodyguards I see...

Well... I guess we might as well just follow her for now to see where things go.

I took a moment to give Yuki a salute, indicating that we were leaving things here to her and she gave me a nod in response.

We’ve already done our part here and cleaning up is not part of our duties so... There’s nothing else for us to do here anyway.

Also... I’m pretty sure Yuki is hiding it... But I think she’s actually unnerved by the fact that I could control all those animals.

The fact that she basically stayed far away from me after that told me all that I needed to know about her current opinion of me.

We left the venue alongside the rest of the crowd and I was a little surprised to see that there was something like a driveway outside where several vehicles were parked and waiting for their passengers.

Needless to say, Vieretha also had a car waiting for her and there was a separate vehicle for her guards which meant I would be separated from my girls again.

Instead of making a fuss about it, I just followed along for now

The car actually looked like the normal four seater model instead of those really advanced ones like the flying car we took back then.

But that also meant that I was seated beside her and in quite close proximity to the woman.

As the car started moving, I noticed her gaze drifting down towards my legs and I was about to tell her off when she noted spoke up.

"Your dress... It’s been restored?"

Oh... I almost forgot about that...

I had torn it off in front of her for dramatic effect but after I had Renata change back for the disguise... I guess I forgot to make the dress torn up again...

"I have a spare," I lied immediately, brushing at the hem as though I was clearing some dust away.

She hummed but made no comments so I assume that I managed to trick her.

"So what are you looking for?" I asked, deciding to just get to the point instead of waiting for this supposed dinner that she had suggested.

She turned to me, "Hmm? I was sure that you might not want to talk until I have wined and dined you. Well, no matter... But before that..."

She snapped her fingers and the glass between the driver and us turned opaque before she nodded at me.

"Now we can talk."

"Right... As I asked, what are you looking for?"

"Mmm~ So... I just want to know who you really are? You aren’t actually someone who was invited to the event, are you?"

I watched her with narrowed eyes.

She smiled, "You don’t have to be so wary. I’m just asking out of curiosity. I’m not going to expose you or anything like that."

"And you expect me to trust you just by your word alone?"

"Hmm... I suppose I can understand why you might be so wary, but the thing is who would even believe whatever I say anyway?"

"That’s not even the main thing. I just don’t trust you."

"I can understand that. What could I do to gain your trust then?"

"Shouldn’t that be something you work for instead of asking me about it?" I pointed out.

"Hmm... Very well then. How about this? I already know who you are, I just wanted to hear it from you."

I frowned, "What do you mean?"

"I think you know exactly what I mean, Lady Tera. Or should I say... Miss Tera of the Teran Mercenary Company?"

I narrowed my eyes at her which she just smiled in response.

She turned away, "I have to say that it was not that hard to find out about you. It’s not like you even tried to hide it anyway."

"What do you want?"

"Like I said, I was merely curious. You have piqued my curiosity and I want to learn more about you."

"How have I piqued your interest?"

She turned back to give me a wry smile, "Oh? I’m not sure if this is just you being ignorant or you’re just trying to be difficult. Are you really asking how the person who quite literally commanded an entire hall of creatures like they were obedient pawns won’t pique my interest?"

I scoffed at her, "You can stop pretending, I know you aren’t interested in me because of that."

She leaned on her elbow and watched the scenery outside for a moment while her tail flicked in front of her idly, "Then I suppose you would just have to wait until our dinner to find out more. Tell me... Those bodyguards of yours... Are they your crew?"

Since she already knew about me, I guess there’s no point lying about this either so I nodded, "Yes they are."

"Are they... Just your crew?"

"What are you asking?"

"Mmm... Are you going out with any of them?"

"I don’t see how that’s any of your business though?"

"Fufufu~ We’re also not going to get very far in our conversation are we?"

"I suppose not. Since you’ve asked so many questions, I think it’s only fair that you answer some of mine, right?"

She turned to blink at me in surprise, "You don’t know?"

I waited to see if she would elaborate but when nothing came I just raised an eyebrow at her, "Sorry but was that supposed to tell me anything?"

"Are you not even aware of the Iceborne family? Last I checked, there aren’t many black Dragonling families are there?"

"Oh my? Do you perhaps not know? Are you familiar with Dragonling society?"

She drew attention to her midnight black scales and shot me a knowing look.
