Chapter 876: Big Doggo~
I waited at the agreed drop off location where the smuggler will deliver the crate containing the dog Yuki had smuggled in.
The plan was for me to receive it and then sneak it into Kaito’s office where it would be let loose and kill the guy.
Then while the dog works its way through his building, we will get contacted to move in to subdue the creature and bring the situation under control.
There was no guarantee that things would proceed as planned of course, so we had to come up with a few other plans in case things went south.
I still don’t know if that dog would obey me and maybe it might even fail in its task of trying to kill Kaito.
Heck, Kaito might not even be in his office either or he might have his own dog that could match up against this one that is meant to kill him.
We couldn’t afford to screw this up as it would most definitely paint a big target on our backs should we end up botching this hustle and have Kaito mark us as criminals.
I lifted up my arm to check my Codex, frowning when I saw that it was already half an hour after the appointed time.
I looked around the empty hallway, this place supposedly being a storage room that was used in the early days during the construction of the station but has now been left unused.
It had a docking port at the side which made this place the perfect spot for smugglers to drop off their cargo here under the security’s radar.
But right now... I’m still the only person standing inside here with no cargo to be found.
I was just about to think that the smuggler got caught or something when a hissing noise came from the airlock and the door cycled open.
I watched as a guy stepped through the door and noted that he had a cybernetic left leg and right arm while his left eye was also replaced by a cybernetic eyepiece.
Behind him was a large container that was being dragged along by a drone following behind him which no doubt contained the dog in question.
The smuggler narrowed his one good eye when he saw me before he approached me, his cybernetic arm swinging behind him to move out of sight.
I’m assuming he had some kind of weapon hidden in it and he’s making sure that he’s prepared to attack in case I turn out to be his enemy.
I waited until the smuggler was closer to me before I spoke out the password that Yuki had told me beforehand.
"Do you happen to have a lot of hair?"
The smuggler relaxed slightly, "Yes. I keep them all inside this box."
Once we had acknowledged each other, the smuggler stepped aside to let his drone lower the container in front of me before he grunted.
"I don’t know what this is and I don’t want to know... But I thought that I should probably tell you that whatever is inside doesn’t seem happy to be inside. The last few days, there were a lot of banging noises coming from inside."
I nodded at him, "I’ll handle it, don’t worry."
He shrugged, "Like I said, none of my business. I’m just here to get paid."
I wordlessly pulled out a Credit Chip that Yuki had provided me beforehand and handed it over to him.
He took it with his good arm before he plugged it into his cybernetic arm, prompting his mechanical eye to light up for a moment before he nodded.
"Everything seems to be in order. Tell your boss that I’m happy to work with them again."
He then left with his drones and disappeared through the airlock, leaving me with the container in front of me.
Right... I suppose the first thing to check here is whether I can control whatever that’s inside there.
That’s why I’m here alone right now since the girls might get dragged in if whatever that is inside can’t be controlled by me.
In the event that happened, I could use my Psionic powers to restrain it while Renata protects me instead of worrying about the creature going after my girls.
I moved up to the door of the container and started the process of unlocking it using a console that popped out from the side as I approached the door on the container.
I tapped on the screen to begin the unlocking sequence and the main door let out a hiss as it slowly began to swing open with a rather ominous grating noise.
Taking a few steps back, I braced myself and watched as the opening got bigger and bigger until there was enough space for a person to walk through it.
The only thing preventing me from seeing what was inside the container was the lack of lighting and all I saw was an inky blackness within the container.
I then activated the flashlight function on my Codex and I found myself looking at a giant creature that was basically almost the same size as I was...
And it’s so fluffy!!! Waahhh!! It’s a fluffy dog!!
I still can’t tell what breed it is since most of the dog was still obscured inside the container but I could at least tell it was definitely fluffy with dark brownish, orange fur.
Ahem... Let me try this...
I stretched out my hand towards it and beckoned towards it, "Come here~"
The dog began to move and despite its size, it made no sound as it plodded its way towards me.
When it finally got to the opening of the container, the first thing I thought was that the dog was a Tibetan Mastiff given its size. Its shoulders were the same height as my chest and it was comparable in size to a small horse.
But I realised that it looked a little different than the Tibetan Mastiffs that I remember which meant that this was most likely a mixed breed.
I had to wrack my brains for a moment to figure what it could probably be mixed with and I figured out that it was most likely a Caucasian Ovcharka Tibetan Mastiff mix.
The dog tilted its head at me, watching me with intelligent eyes.
I couldn’t help myself...
"Paw!" I ordered, raising up my palm towards it.
The dog didn’t even hesitate and immediately lifted one of its paws to place it in my palm.
Ahhh!! So cute!! Oh my gods!! This doggo is so cute!! I can do this right? It won’t mind right?
I went ahead to hug the giant fluffball and started patting it and running my hands through its soft fur.
Ahhhh~ So soft!! It’s so cute!!
The dog did not try to stop me and merely stayed where it was and allowed me to continue patting it.
It’s soooo fluffyyyyy!
I also took this chance to double check its belly and realised that it’s a girl.
"Who’s a good girl? Who’s a good girl?" I cooed, continuing my patting.
I honestly wasn’t really expecting a response but... The dog looked around the room as though she was trying to figure out if I was trying to get her to point at someone else.
When she realised that there’s no one else in the room, it lifted one of its paws to point at herself.
"Ahahaha! That’s right! You’re a good girl!! Good girl!!" I chuckled, patting her on the head.
This time, the dog let out a cute whine when I patted her, her tail wagging happily behind her.
Right then, a call came from my Codex and I tapped on it to answer the call, prompting a holographic screen to pop up showing Amber looking at me worriedly.
"Tera? Is everything alright? You have not checked back in for a while..."
I waved my hand at her, "Don’t worry, the smuggler was just late. I have already received the package. Look!"
I turned to show her the giant dog sitting obediently in front of the container and not moving a muscle.
There was a sharp intake of breath from Amber’s side of the call before she spoke again, "That... What is that thing? Why is it so huge?!"

"It’s a breed of dog called the Caucasian Ovcharka Tibetan Mastiff mix, Amber~ This is basically their normal size~ No wait... I think this form is even bigger."
"I... I see... Umm... Since we’re rushing for time... You should be moving towards that guy’s office at this point, right?"
I nodded, "That’s right. Once I confirm some things with the dog, I will start making my way there and infiltrating it."
"Hmm... In that case, we can just meet at the office itself~ I’ll be waiting, Tera!"
She then shut off the call, leaving me alone with the giant dog once again.
Right... This is probably where I start leading the dog to where that guy is.
Ahem... Sorry about this, doggie, but I’m going to need you to stay inside another box for now.
