Chapter 918: We’re Still Gonna Stream?
Well... I left Renata’s offer hanging for a while since I didn’t really want to deal with it yet. Having a bioship was something I most definitely couldn’t decide on right now.
Additionally... I’m not sure if my girls would be able to accept the idea of being inside Renata since they already expressed a concern for wearing her as clothes to begin with... So maybe living inside of her is also something that they might not be too accepting of.
That’s something else I would have to consider for the future but I decided that now is definitely not the time for it.
The ship was still on its way to the destination and I had some free time so I was in the recreation room browsing the GalaNet on the big screen while reclined on one of those beanbag chairs.
I wasn’t really planning on watching anything specifically but because Ries must have been using it before this since the first channel that popped up was the gaming channel.
I initially thought about changing the channel but stopped when I realised that the game that was being live streamed was some kind of space game where the player was controlling a ship and dodging through space in a virtual dogfight.
The reason why I had stopped to watch was because the ship on the screen was none other than my ship.
Well... Not my ship in reality, but my model. The Verlandi.
The other reason why I stopped was because I recognised the game... The game was eerily similar to Galactic Conquest... The one that I was supposed to be playing before I woke up here...
It wasn’t exactly the same since I could see a few differences in the UI but... I guess it’s partially because the game being shown on the screen took reference from the real world itself to make it unlike the one in my universe that relied on using fictional content.
I watched as the player that was livestreaming the game spun the ship through a field of asteroids, giving the other players that were hunting them the slip before the ship did a loop to end up behind them.
The Verlandi then fired its guns, blasting a few of its targets into debris before chasing after the last two.
The two ships split up, attempting to draw the streamer away but the streamer simply fired another shot at one of the ships to disable its engines before chasing after the last enemy.
The last enemy ship tried to shake the Verlandi off by flying through another field of asteroids but the streamer didn’t let up as it flew straight into the field and continued the chase.
Both ships weaved in between the rocks with absolute precision, their ships flying close enough to the rocks that their ships would have left trails on the rocks if this was happening in real life.
Eventually, the enemy ship made a mistake and ended up clipping the wing of their ship on one of the asteroids, causing the ship to spin out of control and into the open.
The streamer doesn’t waste any time as the guns on the Verlandi fired, blasting the enemy ship apart into virtual debris.
The Verlandi then spun around and flew back to find the disabled ship that had its engine shot out, the player controlling that ship in the midst of trying to activate some kind of repair module on it.
Unfortunately, before that could be completed, the streamer fired another shot at the enemy ship, blasting it apart and killing them.
Hmm... I’m going to be honest here... I could do better.
That chasing part, the streamer could have cut through one of the asteroids that had a hole in it which would have ended the chase there completely. But I guess the streamer wasn’t confident they could fly through that hole without crashing which was why they didn’t do it.
Either way... I could do better.
Even though that was what I thought, the comments section on the livestream was flooded with praises for the streamer and there were a ton of donations and gifts being sent every second.
I was so focused on watching the dog fight that I didn’t realise someone else had come into the room until they suddenly jumped into my lap.
"Bosssss!! Nyaaaa~" Ries purred, curling herself up into a ball to cuddle herself against me.
I reflexively started patting her head, "Hello Ries. I see it’s your break time now?"
"Mmmmm~ That’s right nyaaa~ Boss~ Right there~" She purred louder.
I got the message and scratched her behind her ears, making her purr even more while her tail curled up on my arm possessively.
She enjoyed me scratching her head for a while more before the sounds of explosions came from the screen.
That caught the catgirl’s attention as she turned to look at the screen, finding the livestream of the space game being played by the streamer right now.
Incidentally, the streamer seemed to be on some kind of hunt since they had just run into another group of players and was shooting at them.
Perhaps this Streamer was a PvPer and she’s doing a player hunt right now.
Ries gasped, "Oh wow~ I didn’t know Sonicslayer was streaming right now~ Did you also become their fan, Boss?"
"I didn’t even know it was this guy that was streaming. I just saw that the game had a Verlandi in it and I was just watching him fly it in combat."
"Oooh~ And what do you think Boss? Do you think you can do it better?"
"Honestly? Yes."
Ries blink at me, as though completely not expecting that answer.
"Wait, wait... Seriously? Can you really beat him, Boss?!"
"Err... I’m not so sure about beating him but... I guess maybe?"
"Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh!! Then you have to beat him!! That will give us so much attention!!"
"Attention? Attention for what?"
"For our Galastream of course!! We would get such a big boost in followers if we record a video of you doing that! We’re almost about to break ten K subs!!"
Oh... I almost forgot about that... We had a Galastream account that we were using to upload videos of our Merc jobs...
We have not been uploading much lately due to the nature of our jobs and the fact that we were using our powers which needed to be a secret and not broadcasted to the entire galaxy.
If Ries hadn’t mentioned it, I would have completely forgotten that we even had such a thing.
At least we weren’t really reliant on it to make money so we don’t really care about being popular.
I guess Ries had more interest in it than I thought...
I gestured at the screen, "Even if I want to go and beat him, it’s not like I can just jump into my Verlandi and fly over to where he is right now to fight him right? This thing is a game, right?"
Ries nodded her head excitedly, "Yes! Do you still think you can beat him in the ga-- Oh wait! You mentioned that you played this like a game before right? So this should be something that you are familiar with?!"
"Err... I guess somewhat? But I played the game using a VR Capsule."
She nodded her head again, "I know! In that case, if we get one for ourselves, you should be able to fight him at your full capacity, right?!"
I couldn’t help but retreat a little from how intense Ries was acting, "Err... I guess?"
"Then I will go and place an order right now!! We can have one installed right here and we can stream you playing that game, Boss! Then you can hunt him down and blow him up while he’s streaming and everyone’s attention will be shifted to us!!"
"I’m just going to say... I don’t have a hundred percent guarantee that I will even be able to beat him..." I admitted before gesturing at the screen. "That’s a game. I don’t even know what the parameters are and there might be game logic that isn’t present in real life which might translate badly for me who is used to piloting the real thing."
Also, yes, I can see the absolute irony that I was living this life of mine in this new universe like a game but now I’m talking about it like it’s real life while referring to a game version of it within the same universe as a game itself.
How the turns have tabled indeed...
Ries pumped her fists, "Don’t worry, Boss! What’s the worst that can happen? We lose nothing from this! If you beat him, we will get the attention! If you don’t beat him and lose, then everyone will just feel like it’s a normal thing! We literally have nothing to lose and everything to gain!!"
I mean... If you insist on this so much... Then sure, I guess?
