Chapter 973: Is My Face All Over The GalaNet Now?
Chapter 973: Is My Face All Over The GalaNet Now?
I was actually half worried that the club might be one of those twenty four hour places but... Thankfully it wasn’t.
The patrons slowly filed out of the club under the watchful eyes of the bouncers and club staff while they started the clean up of the place.
Meanwhile, I joined my girls at their table and enjoyed a couple more drinks with them while the club was closing.
"How was the show?’ I asked them, sipping on a cocktail that I made for myself while the girls also enjoyed the drinks I made for them.
Amber giggled and leaned herself against my side, "It was shooooo wonderful I forgot how to breathe~ Eheheheeeee~"
I rolled my eyes at her exaggeration but chose not to comment on it since she was obviously drunk.
The other girls also looked to be quite buzzed at the moment which wasn’t surprising considering just how much alcohol was consumed here.
Ries giggled, "Ehehehe~ Boss was really cool though~ All the flipping and stuffffzzz... Nyaaaa~"
Mara took another sup of her drink before nodding at me, "I will admit, Captain. Your control over your... Mind... Has improved by a lot. If I hadn’t been watching closely, I would not have sensed or noticed you using it."
I grinned at her, "To hear that coming from you, I am greatly honoured."
"Fufu~ There is no need for that, Captain, we all know that you have worked extremely hard after all. And you definitely have the talent for it."
I then turned my attention to Vier, "So what are the numbers after that live stream?"
She said nothing and simply slid over her personal terminal that showed our video streaming page.
I wasn’t sure what she was trying to show me until I saw the follower count at the top of the page.
The last I remembered, our follower count was in the low millions or something which Ries said was really impressive even though our video with that SonicSlayer guy already reached over a billion views.
You don’t expect everyone who watches your video to subscribe to the channel after all... And most people would only watch that one viral video but don’t check out any other videos in that channel afterwards anyway.
I can say that because I’m one such person who would do that.
That’s why getting a few million followers from just one video with over a billion views was considered exceptional.
But now... Apparently with two viral videos on our channel, that allowed our numbers to increase by a very substantial amount.
And by substantial, I mean I was now looking at a follower count of two billion.
As a comparison, the channel that Valiea and Ragbar were running had a follower count of twenty two billion the last time I checked... And that was something they got after a rather long time if I’m not wrong...
And here we are, barely even a month or two after we started posting our videos and we’re already at that follower count...
Well, we’re still far off from SonicSlayer’s numbers though... That guy has numbers in the quadrillions of followers on his channel.
"That many? From just a single livestream?" I gaped.
She nodded, "I might have capitalised on several other factors to boost the numbers up though. But yes."
"I thought you said that you were expecting only an increase of three to five times? This is way more than that, isn’t it?"
The Dragonling smirked at me, "I suppose I might have underestimated your potential, Tera. I shall make sure that never happens again."
What the heck is that supposed to mean?
Also, that actually made me worry about something...
"Wait... If that was a livestream of me doing that mixing... Isn’t my face basically plastered all over the GalaNet at this point?"
Renata spoke up from my chest, "Don’t worry Daddy! I made sure to do my best!"
Vier’s personal terminal then started to play a video and I realised it was a recording of the event just now.
The cameras zoomed in on me tossing the bottles in the air and I realised that the video was not showing my face accurately.
By that, I mean like there were pixelated distortions in front of my face which hid my actual face from view.
You could still somewhat see my facial features but it would be somewhat impossible for you to use this to recognise me on the street.
Though I suppose the only way people might be able to figure out this was me was because of my hair and my body I guess?
I looked back at the others around the table and they didn’t seem surprised by this.
"Is this normal?" I asked, pointing at my censored face.
Mara nodded, "It’s normal. There are cybernetics that specifically scrambles visual recordings of themselves which would prevent their likeness from being accurately recorded unless an unscrambler is used on the video. Usually, unscramblers would be really expensive for someone that is not tied to the military or the government to get one so we shouldn’t need to worry about someone else trying to figure out who you are."
"Wait... But that means a really determined person could potentially get one anyway?"
"They would need to get an unscrambler that has the same tech or greater than the scrambler used to hide the person’s face or else it wouldn’t work. And considering the one that is scrambling your face’s recording is Renata herself... I don’t think there’s an unscrambler in existence that can unscramble your recording, Captain."
Oh, that’s good to know... You girls should have told me that before this... Then again, I guess they did tell me there was no need to worry because they were going to edit all the videos.
I just thought their idea of ’editing’ was actually putting it through some video editing software and manually censoring my face or something. That’s pretty cool.
"I assume that criminals would usually use this cybernetic to hide themselves from getting caught?"
Ries giggled, "Ehehehe~ That’s right~ Mmm... But it’s not as... Hic... Widely used as you might think Boss! Nyaaaa~"
Yumiko placed her own mug of alcohol on the table, "It basically flags them as suspicious individuals right from the start which would draw attention to them instead of hiding them."
Was that why the bouncer outside was so hostile to me the first time we met? That might explain some things I guess...
Anyway, I suppose it’s a good thing that my face isn’t plastered around the GalaNet... But apparently people will still know that I am ’Tera’ who is in the video if they meet me in real life.
Don’t know how that works exactly but Vier mentioned it was something related to how normal people’s scanners work, especially if they have cybernetics installed which is basically almost everyone in the galaxy.
I wondered if this applied to people in the Inner Colonies too since, from what I know, most people in the Inner Colonies use gene mods instead of cyware mods.
But before I could ask, two bartenders came along and appeared beside my table.
"Whew... That was certainly a crowd. I think that might be the biggest crowd we had to deal with ever since we opened the club!" Ragbar laughed.
Valiea grinned at me, "If you ever get tired of the Merc life, Tera... We don’t mind welcoming you as a co-owner here as well."
I chuckled, "Well... I guess if that day comes, I’ll hit you both up again."
Valiea giggled at me before turning to look at my group, "I assume this is still your crew right? It seems like there’s more people than before?"
I nodded, "Yeah. Been a hell of a time since I last met you two."
"So I’ve heard. I saw that you managed to clear out a bug nest just by yourselves. That must have been a crazy time."
"I’m more surprised that you know about it."
She gestured around the club, "Ever since news about the military wanting to clear Xetarva started flooding the GalaNet, there have been Mercs who came here looking for job opportunities related to that as well. They pay quite well, after all."
"And you two decided to set up a club here before that happened?"
"Ironically, we were expecting to have only a select number of clients here and slowly build ourselves back up again. Who knew that in just a few weeks, something like this would happen and we’re already looking at crowds that were beyond what we saw back at our old place?"
I didn’t get to see the extent of the queue outside the club earlier but I guess there must have been more people there than before.
The couple then pulled up a chair each and settled into the booth with us, taking out their own drinks while their staff cleans up the club behind them.
Ragbar raised his glass, "First things first! To an unexpected reunion! Cheers!"
All of us cheered as well, enjoying the atmosphere where it was just us and no other patrons in sight.
Mmmm... Now I kind of want to eat something too. Hey, do you two have a kitchen here?
