Chapter 988: We’re Here To Kill A Leviathan

I looked at the giant Leviathan,wondering if the only thing we could do was just to try and push it off course with no way of killing it.

Unless... I just throw Renata at it and let her eat it?

I didn’t really have time to think too much since more tentacles appeared from the rock and their tips started to glow again.

I engaged my thrusters, boosting myself away right before several lasers pierced through the space I had been a moment before.

I pulled out my gun while letting the drones break apart to attach themselves to my wings again, allowing them to recharge while I shot the tentacles with my kinetic cannon.

I managed to shred through a few of them but it would only buy us a short moment of reprieve since the tentacles will no doubt grow back soon enough.

Screw it... Let me try this...

I sucked in a breath and stretched out my senses towards it, using my telekinesis to try and hold it in place.

I was honestly not expecting to be able to do anything to begin with, seeing how big that Leviathan was. But I was quite surprised to see that I managed to envelope the entire creature with my will and freeze the creature in place.

Well... It only lasted for a very short moment though... Because the very next moment, the Leviathan heaved its tentacles and broke free.

It felt like I was shoved aside by something heavy but it didn’t really matter since I was in space anyway, my thrusters already activating to keep me in place instead of being flung away.

Amber flew over to the Leviathan’s side wrapped in a cloak of flames.

I watched as she smashed into the Leviathan’s side, exploding against the Leviathan’s side and cracking the exoskeleton armour.

She wasn’t done yet as she channeled the flames to blast into the crack she made.

Some of the flames blasted out from the holes and burned the tentacles that had been unfortunate enough to be in those holes.

The other tentacles thrashed around in the air, obviously in pain.

If this wasn’t in space, I think we would be hearing the Leviathan screaming in pain right now. That’s assuming the Leviathan could even scream to begin with, of course.

Several of the tentacles tried to point its tip at Amber, charging up its green lasers again.

I suddenly had an idea and reached out my will again, holding the tentacles in place and forcing it to point their tips at itself.

The lasers actually managed to pierce through its body, burning a hole through its own exoskeleton until they emerged again on the opposite side.

Oh? I see now.

This is a case where the only thing that can pierce through its own armour is itself, isn’t it?

Basically, the only thing that can beat itself is itself.

I watched the tentacles thrash around again as that definitely hurt it, though now it was a question of whether I could get it to shoot itself in the core.

The only problem was the fact that I don’t know where its core was and how big it might be. In fact... I don’t even know if the Leviathan was capable of moving the core around as well.

Still, I just figured out how I could hurt it quite effectively so I wasn’t going to let this go.

Amber was still continuing her assault on the Leviathan with her flames, forcing its attention on her as she burned her way along the surface of its exoskeleton and leaving flaming craters in her wake.

I took advantage of the Leviathan constantly trying to shoot at her to force it to shoot at itself instead.

Either the Leviathan wasn’t aware that its own attacks were being used against it or it was only capable of reacting to instinct by attacking Amber with the lasers, but even after I made it shoot itself three times, it still did not change its tactic of shooting its lasers.

Granted, it tried to recall its drones to return to deal with us, but Yumiko held true to her word as she held her ground and sliced apart any drones that tried to get past her.

And right behind the drones were the rest of my girls that were also shooting them down from the rear, cutting down their numbers before they could even reach Yumiko.

Just as I was getting into the flow of manipulating the tentacles to make the Leviathan shoot at itself, another wave of drones were spat out from a few of the holes above the Leviathan, forming into another cloud of those tentacle laser drones.

I couldn’t help but cluck my tongue in annoyance at the new obstacle. Should have known it could spit out even more of those things...

Well, I can do that too.

I spread my wings, unleashing all the drones that have been fully charged once again and arranged them around me to form a dome of death.

With a single thought, all of my drones found their targets and started shooting at the cloud of tentacle drones even before they could get into formation.

I watched with satisfaction as a good chunk of them were torn apart and their debris floated off into space.

Unfortunately, I could not kill all of them before they could form up and return fire at me, taking down a few of my own drones as well.

Tsk... I’ll need Ries to help me replace them afterwards... That’s definitely going to cost us some Credits.

Whatever, the station was already planning to pay each Mercenary team ten thousand Credits and since we’re the only Mercenary group that took this job, we can just take all the Credits they set aside for the other groups right?

Then again... It’s not like we can’t afford it anyway so whatever...

I left my drones to target the rest of the tentacle drones automatically while I shifted my focus back on the Leviathan again, shifting its giant tentacles to shoot at itself once again instead of at Amber.

At this point, I was watching the fire spread across the surface of the Leviathan, forming a long trail of flames that only expanded as Amber flew across its surface.

Compared to its overall size, the area that was being burned was still quite little but it was definitely expanding by the second. And with Amber controlling the flames, it does not look like it would put itself out unless she willed it to.

I also noted that the tentacles that she burned were not regenerating either so I’m guessing that her fire was definitely working at least.

Additionally, I also realised that the holes that were made by its own lasers were not healing as fast so I assume that the fire was definitely affecting it quite a lot to the point that its regeneration prowess was not able to keep up.

At this rate, it might just be a matter of time before we can strip away its exoskeleton and expose its writhing tentacle mass underneath.

After forcing it to shoot itself for the eighth time, a salvo of rockets, lasers and kinetic shells struck against it from the side.

Looking back, it seems like my girls had already finished up with the tentacle drones on their side and were now joining in the bombardment of the Leviathan itself.

Yumiko wanted to join in as well but I told her to hang back as I didn’t want to risk her getting caught up in Amber’s fire or my telekinetic attacks.

However, there was one person who was quite adamant about joining in.

"Let me at it, Daddy!! I want to eat some of it at least!!" Renata cried out.

Well... I couldn’t really say no to her... Especially when I know she could just take whatever we could throw at her and not even be affected anyway.

I opened up the cockpit doors and allowed her to shoot a blob of herself towards one end of the Leviathan before closing up again, watching the small black blob propel towards the Leviathan.

I also just want to say something about Amber...

Initially, I thought Amber was just flying around the Leviathan randomly while burning a trail behind her... But I now realise that she had actually intentionally drawn an outline of a dick on the Leviathan’s exoskeleton with her flames.

And judging by her laughing hysterically through the comms, she was quite proud of her work.

Real funny, Amber...

Renata splattered herself at the far end and immediately started to spread herself out along the Leviathan’s body, consuming the parts that she touched.

That seemed to hurt the Leviathan the most as it started thrashing around even more wildly as compared to before.

With my girls bombarding the front, Amber burning the side, myself shooting it from the top and Renata eating it from the back... I think we might actually be able to kill this thing.
