Chapter 989: Ending A Leviathan
The Leviathan thrashed its tentacles around as we continued our bombardment, chipping away at its exoskeleton.
The Leviathan most likely figured out that it could no longer beat us and it was now trying to run instead.
But it wasn’t exactly that fast to begin with so it wasn’t really getting anywhere.
Honestly... We could kind of just stop our assault here since it looked like it was going to try flying back from where it came from. But at this point... We might as well just try and kill it, right?
After all... The recognition we’ll get from killing it would be way more significant than just chasing it away.
But because it was running away, it wasn’t trying to shoot its lasers anymore as it used all of its attention on flailing its tentacles to change its course.
Well... That left me with no other way to attack aside from just shooting at it with my assault cannon.
But with my assault cannons, I might as well be shooting a pea shooter at it with how ineffective it was.
My other option was using the giant laser cannon assembled with my laser drones but I have to keep letting it recharge after every shot which was too slow to be effective against the Leviathan.
My other option was just tearing off chunks of the Leviathan, which was more effective than I thought since I found I could actually tear off quite sizable chunks from the Leviathan.
Right as I was thinking that I could just continue this until I exposed its core, the Leviathan suddenly shifted, its tentacles suddenly retreating back inside the holes.
Now it was just a floating rock in the middle of space with holes where its tentacles had been.
Did it think that it could just hide itself right now and pretend to be a rock so we would leave it alone or something? Did it really think something like that would work?
I mean... Renata’s still eating the bottom part of the Leviathan and she wasn’t going to stop just because the rest of the Leviathan had retreated inside the rock.
Right then, Renata’s panicked voice came from the comms.
"Daddy!! It’s trying to run!! It’s planning to shoot itself off into space!!"
I frowned at that news.
So it was not hiding itself but more like bracing itself as it turned itself into a cannon to shoot itself away from us.
Seeing that it could shoot those lasers and propel itself using the tentacles, I’m assuming that it was planning to concentrate all of them in a single point to propel itself explosively in order to escape.
I wasn’t going to let it run after we expanded so much effort in attacking it! If it’s going to run now, we’re going to have nothing to show for it!!
I did the first thing that came to mind after knowing it was trying to run, which was to extend my will over it and try to freeze it in place.
I honestly didn’t really have any other options I thought I could try and I figured since it was already so damaged, I might actually be able to stop it.
Concentrating on the Leviathan, I let my telekinesis wrap around the entirety of the creature, focusing on freezing it in place.
The entire creature stopped, almost like we were looking at a freeze frame of the creature as every movement around it just stopped completely.
I was worried that it would break free again so I doubled my efforts, feeling the strain on my mind as an ache started creeping up the back of my head.
Nevertheless, I persevered and focused all of my attention on the Leviathan, holding it in place with all of my will.
To me, it felt like something was pressing down on me, like there was a giant boulder pressing down above me.
I heaved against it, doing my best to stay on my metaphorical feet as I pushed back against the rock to make sure I didn’t get crushed.
Also... I believe that due to the fact that I was holding the Leviathan in place with my mind, I was now more attuned to it or something...
The reason I say that was because... I could suddenly understand the Leviathan.
"Pain!!! Consume!!! Kill!!! Escape!!!!"
Its voice felt like nails scratching on a chalkboard and I needed to use all of my willpower to hold myself in place and withstand the mind rattling screeches of the creature.
And... I guess because I was so focused on that and the voices were making my ears ring and shaking my mind... I put in quite a bit of force which resulted in a rather loud ’crack’ that echoed in my head, silencing the Leviathan.
That crack apparently came from the fact that I had somehow split the creature into two, like I had grabbed both ends of the creature and ripped it apart to split it down the middle.
All the pressure I felt was suddenly alleviated, like the boulder that had been pushing me down just ceased to exist all of a sudden.
No... Not ceased to exist... But more like that the boulder had suddenly shrunk in size until it was just the size of a pebble.
When I focused my attention back on the Leviathan, I realised that it hadn’t actually been split perfectly into two.
I had only split the outer exoskeleton and most of the fleshy parts that were now stretching itself apart though it looked like it was in the midst of trying to pull itself together.
That was where I noticed there was this blue coloured orb shaped object that was lodged in the middle of the fleshy bits, the orb itself currently somewhat exposed but still half hidden within the mass of tentacle flesh.
Right now, at where it’s located, I’m the only one who was able to see it as Amber was stuck on one of the separated parts that was being pulled away and the remains of the Leviathan was hiding the core from my other girls. Renata was also still eating away at one end of the Leviathan and nowhere close to it either.
Which means... It’s up to me then...
I activated my thrusters, powering them up to max thrust and boosting myself directly, even engaging the additional boosters that gave me a short burst of speed just to get me closer to the orb while the Leviathan was doing its best to close it up.
I focused my telekinesis on the flesh around the orb, trying to hold it apart but I might as well be trying to hold back two security doors trying to close itself as the tentacle mass continued to weave together to restore itself.
At least my intervention was able to slow it down somewhat where by the time I reached it, there was still a gap between the tentacle mass and the orb so I could bring down my halberd to slash through it.
The orb was about twice my size so I was a little worried that my little cut here wouldn’t even do any damage to it... But it seems like my worries were unfounded.
I could feel the Leviathan letting out a scream inside my head before I released my telekinesis on it to shut off its ’voice’.
The mass of tentacles that had been trying to cover the orb peeled back, exposing more of the orb to me probably as a reflex action from the pain of getting sliced.
I did not waste that chance and did a few quick slashes with my halberd again, cutting into the orb indiscriminately.
The orb seemed to turn more liquid the more I slashed at it before suddenly, it just popped like a bubble and blue liquid floated out as a jelly-like substance.
The tentacles around me seized up and stopped moving like it was frozen in place again, only that I didn’t use my telekinesis this time.
I held my halberd in front of me, just in case those tentacles suddenly came back to life and started attacking me again.
But even after waiting for a full minute, nothing happened.
"It’s dead, Daddy," Renata confirmed with me, right before the sounds of her munching and swallowing something could be heard.
Guess she’s still eating it from her side of the Leviathan.
Just don’t eat all of it, ok? We still need most of it intact to show them that we did manage to kill it.
Well... Even though the ending was a little bit abrupt and without the amount of expected explosions and fanfare... I guess we really did kill the Leviathan.
Hooray~ Great job girls! I’ll prepare a big feast for everyone tonight! We’re partying hard today!!

...
Now... Err... Do we just drag the thing back to the station? Can we even hook its corpse up?
We’re not going to cause a mass panic if we do that... are we?
