Chapter 731 - 37: The Swordsman and His Companions
Chapter 731: Chapter 37: The Swordsman and His Companions
Lynch’s brow instantly furrowed, his face as gloomy as the sky before a storm. A trace of extreme shock flickered in his gray eyes, immediately transforming into deep caution and anger, as he stared intently at where the scarlet tongue had attacked from.
’What is that?!’
The Domain-level corpse, that movable treasure trove he had risked so much to defeat, was intercepted just as it was about to fall into his hands?!
Lynch immediately swung his head around, his sharp gaze like two cold arrows, shooting toward the shadowy corner of the ruins.
He saw a small figure that had appeared there at some unknown time.
A girl who looked only twelve or thirteen, stood there quietly. She wore a large, scarlet wizard robe, its color dull like dried blood, covering most of her body and revealing only a pale face with an expression of indifference not fitting her age.
Most strikingly, on her slender shoulder, crouched steadily a frog-like demon completely dark purple, its skin covered with disgusting boils and folds.
At this moment, the frog was smacking its mouth in satisfaction, and the scarlet long tongue that had just rolled away the corpse of Ragnar was slowly retracting back into its mouth.
The instant Lynch looked over, he witnessed a hair-raising scene—
The frog abruptly opened its massive mouth wide enough to swallow several times its own body, with its throat seemingly a bottomless black hole, and swallowed the battered Domain-level corpse of Ragnar whole! It didn’t even chew!
"Courting death!"
A chilling light shot from Lynch’s eyes, filled with murderous intent! The flames on Ifrid’s Sword surged once more. Kong and Vanilla at his side also instantly entered combat mode, space fluctuations and sword intent simultaneously locked on the bizarre girl and her frog.
Blade drawn, a fierce battle was on the verge of breaking out!
"Don’t act rashly, Lynch."
At this critical moment, a calm, aged voice, filled with reassuring power, abruptly sounded nearby, seeming to carry a peculiar magical force that instantly quelled the violent intent in the air.
Lynch looked towards the source of the voice, only to see an elder in plain swordsman’s clothes, covered with a white travel cloak, slowly step out from behind a broken stone pillar not far away. His demeanor was kind, his eyes clear and profound, cradling an ancient Cross Sword, it was none other than Sir Philis of the Truth Church!
"Sir Philis?" Lynch paused slightly in surprise.
Philis nodded at him, his gaze sweeping over the red cloak girl before explaining to Lynch: "Relax, Lynch. Lilia meant no harm, her earlier actions were actually helping you."
"Helping me?" Lynch frowned tightly, completely unable to understand. Snatching away his hard-won spoils was helping?
Philis didn’t directly answer but gestured for him to look at the frog that had swallowed Ragnar’s corpse.
At this moment, the frog demon’s body started to unnaturally expand and contract violently, its skin color frantically changing between dark purple, ghastly green, and gray-black, as if it had ingested something extremely unstable and poisonous!
Its previously dull face showed an extremely painful expression, even letting out a faint "quack" whimper.
This process lasted for over ten seconds before the frog seemed to have exhausted its strength, slumping on the girl’s shoulder, gasping heavily, its skin color gradually stabilizing, but looking utterly worn out.
Then, it opened its mouth wide again, but this time not to devour, rather to regurgitate. It spat out the recently swallowed corpse of Ragnar, unscathed, gently placing it back on the ground, pushing it back in front of Lynch.
"Now, inspect this Domain-level corpse carefully once more." Philis said calmly.
Lynch, taken aback, stepped forward cautiously, squatting down and focusing his spiritual power to carefully probe Ragnar’s corpse. As he did, he immediately discovered a difference!
The unsettling, cold, lifeless negative energy wave that had permeated the corpse before was now gone without a trace! In its place was a relatively "clean" state that, though devoid of vitality, no longer possessed corrosive properties.
He instantly understood Philis’s point: it was an important knowledge about Domain-level corpses—negative element pollution!
The existence of Domain-level beings undergoes a fundamental metamorphosis in their life form, with every cell and every trace of energy imprinted with their own law.
When such beings die, their corpses don’t simply decompose like ordinary creatures but begin a horrific process of "autophagy" and "decay," rapidly converting into highly destructive and polluting negative elements.
These negative elements are aggregates of death, decay, and chaos, capable of easily polluting vast lands, transforming a vibrant forest into a Dead Domain, and even spawning more terrifying undead creatures. Rashly touching or storing an unprocessed Domain corpse is like planting a time bomb beside oneself.
Lynch certainly knew of this hazard. His original plan was to first capture it with a specially made sealing container, and then seek a safe method for purification treatment once he left the Lost Tower. Yet, unexpectedly, this thorny problem had been solved in such an astounding way by that strange frog?
Seeing the sudden realization and amazement on Lynch’s face, the girl under the name Lilia snorted softly, lifting her delicate chin and, with some obvious pride, said: "Hmph! Magi can eat all the ’bad’ things in the world. The death energy and negative elements brewing in that corpse had been eaten by it."
Pausing, she added: "No need to thank me; I was merely following the swordsman old man’s instructions."
Lynch and Kong exchanged bewildered glances.
In his confusion, his gaze fell on Philis, who had suddenly appeared at the front, clearly seeking an answer.
Philis didn’t keep them in suspense, speaking directly, "We saw the previous battle. It was a remarkable display, and to have disabled part of the Purgatory Magic Array in such a situation is indeed impressive."
Pausing, he praised, "Young Lynch, I originally thought your strength had been rapidly increased in some special way and wasn’t solid in such a short time, but now it seems I’ve overthought."
Lynch asked in confusion, "So, you arrived here earlier?"
He had been fighting here for half a day, completely unaware of the presence of other Domain-levels.
Philis nodded, "It wasn’t just me. To be precise, all the Domains in this trial arrived earlier."
As Philis finished speaking, hidden presences appeared one after another, and at the same time, unfamiliar figures gradually emerged around...
