Chapter 1072, Death is Certain
Chapter 1072, Death is Certain

Ye Wuxian’s flames seemed not particularly strong. When burning him, they could barely pierce through his Defence, leaving him with little more than a stinging sensation.
For a veteran Player like him, who had fought through countless battles, this sort of pain was virtually indistinguishable from a mosquito bite.
In each battle he had fought, when had any of them not been soaked in blood and carnage?
So, at the outset, he had almost entirely ignored the sensation of these flames burning him.
Besides, he felt like he could simply shake the flames off, and they would be nothing worthy of a second thought.
But now, he was gradually beginning to sense that something was rather wrong. These flames were clearly so feeble, so seemingly fragile. How was it possible that he could not extinguish them?
After several failed attempts to slap them out, he furrowed his brow, then retrieved from his Inventory something that looked like a block of ice.
This item had quite a remarkable origin, it was known as the Sacred Nether Ice.
It appeared unassuming, but it was a Diamond Grade item.
Its function was to Cleanse a range of Negative Status Effects: like Bleeding, Burn, and Poisoned, while also providing a degree of healing to the user.
The Sacred Nether Ice was, in the outside world, a High Grade item that every major Force would rack their brains and fight tooth and nail over in auctions. It was far more useful than an ordinary Healing Potion.
In the hands of the Tie Family Elder, however, it was little different from an ordinary Healing Potion.
Ye Wuxian’s flames were undeniably peculiar, but upon using the Sacred Nether Ice, they should quickly be extinguished, and the burns on his body should heal without a trace.
What he had not expected, however, was that as he activated the Sacred Nether Ice, causing it to dissolve into a cloud of deep-blue mist that enveloped the flames on his body, the deep-blue mist was evaporated cleanly away by the flames in an instant. There was not the slightest Effect whatsoever.
Thus, an entire Sacred Nether Ice vanished just like that, while the flames on the Elder’s body continued to burn. Moreover, the healing power of the Sacred Nether Ice seemed to have become fuel for them, causing the flames to burn with even greater vigour.
Feeling the pain at the points where the flames clung to him gradually intensifying, the Elder was somewhat rattled for a moment.
But he quickly reminded himself that he was dealing with merely a Level 100 Player. Although one with perhaps a rather unusual Profession trait. Surely, she would not be able to kill him?
If a Diamond Grade Sacred Nether Ice did not work, then he would use an Epic Grade one.
He then took out a second Sacred Nether Ice, this one of the Epic Grade. He quickly applied the same method, pouring it over the flames burning on his body.
This time, the Sacred Nether Ice’s chill was far more ferocious, with waves of cold air erupting outward. Ice crystals could be seen condensing in the very air, falling with a soft crackling sound.
And yet, it was just the same as before. Far from extinguishing the flames, the cold air caused them to burn even more intensely.
At this point, even the Elder was finding it difficult to withstand the scorching of the flames.
He recognised that these flames were genuinely extraordinary, and that for the moment he had no means of extinguishing them.
The one thing worth being grateful for was that the flames were not particularly powerful. It could not kill him outright in short order.
He gritted his teeth and retrieved a Healing Potion, pouring it into his mouth.
This Healing Potion was likewise an Epic Grade Potion, one with the miraculous effect of restoring the gravely injured to Full Health. It would regenerate flesh and bone alike.
As the Potion went down, the burn wounds on the Elder’s body immediately shimmered with a holy radiance. The skin that had already begun to blacken and char began visibly regenerating at a speed perceptible to the naked eye. Even with the flames burning continuously, the rate of healing outpaced the Damage being dealt.
This allowed the Elder to breathe a slight sigh of relief, while simultaneously recognising that this girl Ye Wuxian did indeed have some genuine ability.
Though taking her down would not be difficult, the flames she had released were absolutely not to be touched.
He had no idea how these flames could be extinguished, and if they proved impossible to put out, he doubted he could sustain himself indefinitely by drinking Potions.
What needed to be done now was to quickly subdue the enemy, then force her to withdraw the flames, before killing her and seizing her equipment.
“You wretched girl! Withdraw these flames of yours. Otherwise, I will torture you to death!” The Elder roared in fury, urging the Blazing Sun Eagle beneath him to charge towards Ye Wuxian.
The Blazing Sun Eagle had not escaped the earlier flames either. Its body too was being hounded by this inextinguishable flame that continued to scorch without ceasing.
However, the Blazing Sun Eagle was a Fire Element Battle Pet, and its resistance to the Fire Element was a lot higher than the Elder’s, so the flames upon its body were not quite as pressing for it.
Even so, the stinging pain of the burning came in wave after wave, stripping the Blazing Sun Eagle of its earlier composure and making it ferociously agitated as it charged.
Ye Wuxian, naturally, had no intention of obediently withdrawing her flames.
She flicked her right hand, and Refined Ashless emerged from within the fire, coming into her grasp. “You want to kill me, yet you want me to withdraw the flames that are attacking you? Do you truly take me for a fool? I told you, since you’ve set your sights on me, you must bear the consequences of doing so. These flames are only the first step. From here on, I will make you all regret everything you have done today, scorched by fire as you writhe in pain.”
The Tie Family Elder let out a cold laugh. “What a joke. A mere Level 100 youth. I can strike you down with a single spear thrust. You have nothing more than a body full of High Grade equipment. Do you think you are invincible? The power of us Sixth Profession Players is not something a Fourth Profession Player like you can imagine.”
With that, he thrust out his spear.
This strike appeared much the same as before outwardly, yet its power was incomparable.
As the spear drove forward, space shattered inch by inch, collapsing into a vortex that swept towards Ye Wuxian.
Seeing the opponent’s Skill Attack reach such an extraordinary level, Ye Wuxian’s expression grew grave.
She flung Refined Ashless outward, and a towering flame erupted from thin air, forming a firestorm that collided directly with the collapsing spatial vortex.
Seeing Ye Wuxian actually intend to meet his Skill head-on with her own, the Tie Family Elder inwardly dismissed it as naïve.
What he had released was his Fifth Profession Skill, Void Splitting Slash.
Once this Skill was released, it would shatter space itself, and correspondingly, any Skills and items existing within that space would be directly erased and destroyed.
In other words, this Skill had the Effect of annihilating the enemy’s Skills. Once he unleashed it, his opponent could only flee.
Attempting to meet it head-on, or endure it directly, had only one outcome: death.
However strange the flames might be, they were ultimately still flames. Flames naturally existed within space itself.
[I can directly shatter the very space itself. So, how could your flames possibly harm me?] The Elder was supremely confident. Since Ye Wuxian had chosen not to dodge, death was certain for her.
