With that, he thrust his hand forward. Flame bloomed across his fist.
Seeing the crimson armoured young man move to strike, Situ Ying took action. He charged forward with his sword drawn, drawing the man’s attention onto himself, while simultaneously calling back to the others. “Scatter! Use your Teleportation Scrolls to get out of here!”
The Situ Family members were a disciplined unit. They had long prepared for exactly this sort of emergency. Without sparing a thought for Situ Ying’s situation, every one of them broke in different directions, pulling Teleportation Scrolls back to the Situ Family from their Inventories, intending on fleeing and carrying word of the ambush back home.
“Trying to leave!? No way!” The crimson armoured young man let out a short, cold laugh and threw a single punch.
It was a strike of terrifying speed. It was so fast that Situ Ying could not intercept it in time.
Flame erupted from the man’s knuckles and stretched outward, forming a coiling dragon of fire that surged towards one of the Situ Family members.
That member was no greenhorn though. He was a Fifth Profession Player in his own right, outranked by Situ Ying but a pillar of strength within the Family nonetheless.
He saw the fire dragon bearing down on him. He never even managed to activate a Defensive Skill before it struck head-on.
His Profession Characteristics leaned heavily towards heavy armour. So, his defensive rating was formidable. Even caught completely unprepared, theory dictated he should be able to weather the hit. Killing him should have required something at the level of a Sixth Profession existence.
Yet the crimson armoured young man’s Damage Output was too horrifying.
The fire dragon punched straight through him. A massive cavity opened in the man’s chest.
“Ugh…” That person stared at the hole in his own torso with disbelief, the Teleportation Scroll still clutched in his hand. But, it had not been crushed.
He gritted his teeth and tried anyway, straining to close his fingers around it. If he could get back, there might still be a thread of survival.
But in the last moment before he could act, his peripheral vision caught the corner of the crimson armoured man’s mouth curving upward.
As if to mock him for imagining that anyone caught by his Skill could simply walk away.
In the next instant, the wound erupted.
A fiery inferno tore outward from the site of the injury. The flame engulfed the man entirely, swallowing him whole. Naturally, the Teleportation Scroll in his hand was devoured along with him. In mere moments, all that remained was a scatter of ash across the ground.
Situ Ying caught it in his peripheral vision. He saw another member cut down, causing his fury to double.
“You dare kill a member of my Situ Family!? You will regret this!!” He was already above the crimson armoured man. His sword crashed down in a sweeping strike.
The crimson armoured young man’s expression did not waver. He crossed his arms above his head.
A sheet of flame bloomed along his forearms, as though armour had settled across his upper limbs.
*Thud*
The sword and flame met in a muffled detonation.
Situ Ying’s blood ran cold. His sword had been stopped, and it was done bare-handed.
“Is that all you have?” The crimson armoured young man said, the mockery in his voice matched by the fire blazing along his arms. It was fire that, like a swamp given heat, suddenly produced a viscous adhesive pull that wrapped around the sword and refused to let it go no matter how Situ Ying tried to wrench it free.
The young man surged forward. A detonation of flame blasted Situ Ying backwards. Half his body was scorched in the explosion. All his skin, flesh, everything blackened.
Situ Ying hit the ground hard. The pain was immense. For a long while, he could not even rise up.
The crimson armoured young man’s voice reached him, unhurried. “Why should I regret killing members of your Situ Family? Someone like you is no different from trash. I could kill tens of you, a hundred even, and it would be nothing more than a casual exchange. Want me to regret it? Your Situ Family simply isn’t worthy of it.”
Then came the sound of another fire detonation.
Situ Ying knew with cold certainty what it meant. He fought his way back to his feet.
And saw it, the crimson armoured young man, wreathed entirely in fire, cutting through the remaining Situ Family members. Even in the space of that brief interruption, two people had already fallen. The young man had seized them by the throat and released flames to reduce them to ash.
With two kills made, he spun and charged the next target. His speed reduced him to a streak of flame creating a blazing trail through the air.
“Uncle… save me…”
Seeing the crimson armoured young man converging on him, one of the younger members of the Situ Family let out a cry of hopeless despair and called out to Situ Ying for help.
Situ Ying’s heart cracked. He ignored the pain screaming through his body and threw himself forward, sword raised.
But, he was too slow by half a second.
A single punch from the crimson armoured young man engulfed the young Situ Family member in flame and reduced him to ash in an instant.
“I’ll kill you!” Situ Ying’s composure had shattered. He drove himself at the crimson armoured young man in a relentless assault, sword flying in continuous strikes, every Skill he possessed unleashed without restraint in a torrential barrage. It was enough to make the crimson armoured young man’s brow furrow at last as he was driven steadily back, unable to shake free.
Situ Ying himself was not weak. Now, casting aside every thought of consequence or survival in a suicidal all out charge, even the crimson armoured young man found himself locked down.
From the corner of his eye, the man saw that one of the Situ Family members had already crushed a Teleportation Scroll, and the Array was forming. His expression turned ugly.
“How dare you obstruct me!?” He let out a thunderous roar. Flame erupted from every inch of his body in an unbridled torrent.
Anything within range now suffered the blistering scorch of those flames.
Situ Ying’s flesh withered and blackened at a rate visible to the naked eye.
Yet he ground his teeth together and did not give a single step of ground. He pressed forward with the same relentless, annihilating momentum, refusing to allow the crimson armoured young man a single opening to face the others.
“Get out of my way!” The crimson armoured young man’s patience finally snapped. Another eruption of flame tore from his body. This time, it was fully unrestrained. Also, it was the first actual Divine Skill released without reservation.
The wave of fire hit Situ Ying head-on.
His flesh was incinerated to ash in an instant. Only a bleached skeleton remained, still upright for a fraction of a second before even that was consumed, until nothing was left at all.
Situ Ying, a Fifth Profession Player of genuine strength, had thus been erased from this world at that moment, where not even a corpse remained.
The instant the crimson armoured young man cut him down, he swept his gaze to the others and moved. He was flickering from target to target, burning through the remaining Situ Family members one by one.
They had almost no capacity for resistance. Each fell in seconds.
But Situ Ying’s desperate delaying action had bought time enough. Two people had fully stepped into the Transport Array before the young man could reach them, and they managed to slip away.
