Chapter 50 – Sharing Recent Status with Serika (and Couple’s Manzai)
Serika and I met at the nearest train station, which we shared.
From there, we took the local train for an hour.
We waited for the hourly bus at the end of the local line and then took the bus for an hour.
There were few passengers on the local train during the day, but the bus was completely reserved.
I wonder if this is profitable.
“Man, that was really hard work.”
As we sat in the last row of the bus, the topic of conversation suddenly turned to the double flood in Shinjuku.
The two floods that occurred at about the same time at the Shinjuku Station Underground Dungeon and the Hikarigaoka Park Dungeon are known as the “Double Flood” among those involved.
“How was Ekichika?”
There were only a few passengers on the local train, so it was difficult to talk about such things.
Serika is not wearing her princess knight costume today, but rather her normal, fashionable going-out clothes.
I am wearing normal clothes too, but I feel sorry for Serika who is with me because the difference in the level of fashion is… too much.
I asked Serika, “Where did you get those clothes?” and she mentioned the name of a big clothing chain that I often use.
It’s strange. Even though we bought our clothes from the same store, where did the difference come from?
“The flood in Ekichika was caused by a small boss in the shallower floors, so we were able to deal with it relatively quickly.”
In an S-rank dungeon, there is a boss room at the end of each floor, and they call the bosses small bosses or medium bosses.
A small boss may not sound very strong, but this is an S-rank dungeon.
They say it is as strong or stronger than the dungeon bosses in A-rank dungeons.
“But it was a shallow flood, so some of the monsters came to the surface. Even though I say surface, it’s inside the station, so it’s half underground.”
“But I haven’t heard of any damage.”
“We got there in time to evacuate. Even if they are not explorers, there are plenty of people who will dive into a dungeon just once to get status and have ‘DGP’ on their phones.”
“Oh, so they heard the Voice of Heaven alerting them to the flood warning.”
“Most of the policemen at the police station also have the status. Well, most of them must have the status, or they wouldn’t be working at Shinjuku Station, right?”
“I guess so.”
“There were no casualties, but the station was destroyed. It took all night to restore the station because of the damage to the trains and rails.”
“It must have been a difficult time.”
“Well, the railroad did its best. Unfortunately, there was a lot of resentment toward the Explorers Association, and there was a lot of protest from all parties involved.”
“Oh, it was on the news, too.”
I remember a news commentator criticizing the Association for being slow to react as if it were someone else’s problem.
“In addition, the Rakan who provide personnel for the Association were in chaos, so… It was difficult even before the information about Tozaki-san’s death was confirmed, and once it was confirmed, there seemed to be a struggle over who would take charge of the situation. If Yuto hadn’t told me early on, the Paladin Knights might not have been able to react.”
“I see. I’m glad I could be of service.”
“Who settled the flood in Hikarigaoka Park? It was a hot topic of conversation. It is said that a mysterious man with a black Tengu mask overthrew the boss, you know?”
“I’m sorry. I’m afraid I’ll get into trouble if I reveal my identity…”
“I guess so. Yuto’s status is obviously strange, so I think it’s best to keep it a secret.”
“Right?”
I have heard that if I come forward, I will receive a reward for cleaning up the Flood, but of course, there are doubts as to whether I really did it.
The explorer has the right not to reveal his status.
But it is also difficult to prove one’s competence in any other way.
In reality, they often only disclose the level that even a Simple Appraisal can determine.
In my case, if I were to reveal my status honestly, it would be “Level 1,” and it would be better not to make up my status with the Concealment skill, considering the risk of being caught in a lie.
The Concealment skill is not generally known, but some high-level explorers and high-ranking guilds might know of its existence.
“Yes, Hisui-chan was wondering about it.”
“Haitani-san? About me?”
“Yes. Because the dungeon that Hisui-chan introduced you to had a 2-rank-up flood. She turned blue when she heard the Voice of Heaven… Well, so did I.”
“I’m sorry for worrying you.”
“Yuto is not to blame. I don’t want to speak ill of the dead, but it’s Tozaki-san’s fault, no matter how you look at it.”
“Haitani-san shouldn’t have been bothered by it either. In fact, I’m quite grateful to her for introducing me to a good dungeon.”
“I knew Yuto would say that. I’ll tell Hisui-chan about it later.”
“Yes, please.”
Since Serika’s story is finished, I’ll tell mine this time.
The Rakan and Junko Tozaki are at the entrance of the dungeon in Hikarigaoka Park.
My dungeon strategy and earning.
The secret monster.
Then, Supervisor Tajima’s rebellion in front of the boss room and Junko Tozaki’s last moments.
And the flood at that very moment.
And to top it all off, a deathmatch with a Hobbit Yokozuna, the Hobbit Sumo Wrestler.
(Please note that I was leaning in close and whispering so the driver couldn’t hear me).
When I finished telling her the whole story.
“I was shocked.”
Serika said.
“You don’t believe me?”
“No, I believe you. I don’t know if I’ve ever encountered so many events in a single exploration.”
“It can’t be helped that I have encountered them.”
“That’s true, but…”
“…Ah, that’s right. Do you want this?”
I took out the Book of Secrets, Scroll of Rupture, from my Item Box.
“What is this?”
Serika used the DGP’s camera to appraise the scroll I had taken out.
“Buhーー!?”
Serika gasped.
“That’s vulgar for a girl.”
“A girl, you say, but I’m already old enough to be called a girl. Besides, in this day and age, that comment is sexual harassment.”
“I’ll be careful.”
Well, I said that to calm Serika down.
“You can get 40000 SP just by using… this kind of item.”
“You didn’t know about it?”
“Yes. I’ve never seen it, at least not in my life. I don’t think it’s in the guild’s records either.”
“It’s not that hard for me to make 40,000 now. Serika can use it if you want.”
“I-I can’t accept this!”
“I want to thank you for your hard work and for not giving up on me. Is that not good enough?”
“Uh-uh. I’m not saying it’s not good enough, but… If you’re going to give me something under that guise, why don’t you give me something more like… Hey?”
“…I don’t understand. Would you prefer an accessory or something?”
“Accessories… yes, accessories. If it’s a non-equipment accessory, well…”
“Non-equipment accessory?”
“Ugh, why don’t you get it? You’re giving it to a girl, so why don’t you give her some little accessories… or a ring…?”
“Didn’t you say earlier that you’re not considered a girl anymore?”
“T-That’s true, but… I want you to treat me like a girl!”
“Okay, I get it. But I don’t have that much money. Right, I stole a ring that a monster has in a rare slot…”
“Then why are you going back to the dungeon? It doesn’t matter how cheap it is, like, you know, it should have a feeling, a keepsake… You know, right?”
“I have no idea what to get a woman… I’ll ask Honoka-chan to look at it with me――”
“Don’t ask her to watch it with you!”
“I see, Honoka-chan is only in her second year of junior high school. I’m sure she doesn’t know what a gift for an adult woman should look like.”
“That’s one thing, but that’s not the point…”
“Yeah, I’m sure Haruka-san will pick something nice for you, right?”
“Stop it! Don’t ever let another woman pick out a gift for me again!”
“But I can’t do it alone… Since I’m going to give you a gift, I want to give you something that will satisfy you.”
“I understand! If you insist so much, let’s go shopping together on our next day off! I’ll pick out your clothes too!”
“If that’s the case, fine… But I’m a little embarrassed.”
“About what?”
“Shopping together on vacation is like a date.”
Well, the other party is a childhood friend, and I’m sure Serika doesn’t intend it that way.
No woman would want to go out with a man who is a former shut-in.
Serika probably just wanted to make the poor guy feel like he was on a date with her.
I should not make the mistake of taking advantage of Serika’s kindness.
“…..No, it’s a real invitation for a date, you know…”
Sometimes, Serika’s words were hard to hear.
“What did you say?”
“Nothing, you idiot!”
She seems to be in a bad mood.
But she doesn’t seem to be really angry.
She looks at the other side of the window, but her cheeks sometimes relax and then tighten as if in panic.
While I was enjoying Serika’s countless faces, the bus arrived at the Tengumine Shrine.
