Chapter 53 – Summon Secret Monster

I rode my bike from my house to the nearest Thicket Dungeon.

I put my bike in the Item Box and entered the dungeon.

Today, I won’t bother using Escape from the Slimes.

I will let my Agility take over and run through the dungeon, not using the Escape option but just running away.

It is common knowledge that running away from a monster you encounter in a dungeon is dangerous, but with my current status, it is not a problem.

In fact, with Covert and Stealth on, the Slime doesn’t seem to notice me unless I get very close to it.

I quickly reach the boss’s room.

I killed the level 7 Huge Slime with a single blow that was not level-raised as usual.

This time, it was not the Slimes on the way nor the boss that I wanted to kill.

It was this boss room that I was after.

I kept trying the skills Summon Secret Monster and Summon Phantom Beast.

I had always wanted to try those two skills.

But I couldn’t try them outside of the dungeon.

That’s why I came here to the depths of the unpopular dungeon in a thicket like this.

“Let’s start with Summon Secret Monster.”

Let’s look at it again, shall we?

Here’s the skill description.

Skill──────────────────

Summon Secret Monster 1

Summons a defeated secret monster. The level of the summoned monster is the maximum of the summoner’s level, the level of the monster at the time of the defeat, and the level of other monsters that can be summoned.

It is possible to summon S.Lv monsters at the same time. However, you cannot summon multiple monsters of the same type at the same time.

The summoning process always uses MP, and the amount of MP used depends on the level and rarity of the monster.

[The current summonable secret monsters are]

Golden Treasure Hobbit Lv2941 B Rank

Hobbit Sumo Wrestler Lv2941 A Rank

────────────────────

When I try to use this skill, the name of the summonable monster comes to mind.

Golden Treasure Hobbit and Hobbit Sumo Wrestler.

“Summon―Golden Treasure Hobbit!”

I use the skill, and a magic circle spreads across the ground in front of me.

The magic circle was enveloped in light, with an effect similar to a gacha in a social game.

When the light cleared, there was a large, burly hobbit carrying a large golden sack.

When I checked it with Appraisal,

“The level is higher.”

The Golden Treasure Hobbit I defeated would have been level 72.

The description for Summon Secret Monster said, “The level of the summoned monster is the maximum of the level of the summoner, the level of the monster at the time of defeat, and the level of any other summonable monster.”

The summoner’s level is 1, the level of the monster at the time of defeat is 72, and the level of other summonable monsters (Hobbit Sumo Wrestler’s) is 2941.

According to the description, a maximum of 2941 is used.

“That seems like cheating to me… No, not really?”

Isn’t it unfair that the summoned monster has a level of 2941 while I, who summoned it, have a level of 1?

For a moment, this question crossed my mind, but then I thought about it and realized that it wasn’t like that.

The monsters that can be summoned by Summon Secret Monster are limited to those that have been previously defeated.

The summoner must have defeated the highest-level monster (in my case, Hobbit Sumo Wrestler level 2941).

Normally, the summoner’s level would most likely be higher than “the level of the monster at the time of defeat” or “the level of other summonable monsters.”

Thus, a situation in which a level 1 summoner defeats a monster 2940 levels above him is outside the scope of the skill’s assumptions.

‘Help: You can name the monsters you summon. Naming requires a large amount of MP.’

“Naming. What’s the benefit?”

Aside from the fact that it makes you feel attached to it.

‘Help: Named monsters may awaken to new powers. If that power is a skill, the summoner may be able to learn that skill. Named monsters can also level up by gaining experience. Named monsters will disappear when they die, and a new monster of the same type will be resummoned.’

“I see.”

I nod in understanding as the Voice of Heaven explains.

Named monsters will become stronger when you name them, but they will not resurrect when they are killed. So you have to control it so that it doesn’t die.

Anyway, when I was told that I might be able to get special skills, I had no choice but not to do it.

I thought about it for a while, staring at the well-dressed golden hobbit,

“Well, how about… Hotei?”

The Golden Hobbit nodded in satisfaction at my words.

Immediately, his body was enveloped in light,

‘Hotei had gained new powers with the naming!’

“Whoa!”

I gasped as I felt my MP being drained.

There seems to be no major change in the appearance of the Golden Treasure Hobbit, Hotei.

I can only say that there is a bit of light in his eyes.

“Appraisal.”

The Treasure Detection skill is acquired by bonding with the summoned monster.

“Oh, yes!”

It seems that Hotei has awakened to a new, unique skill through naming, and I, the summoner, have also acquired this skill.

Moreover, the skill was Treasure Detection.

I’m very grateful for this skill, as it’s hard for me to make money.

‘Do you want Hotei to join your party?’

“Huh? What does that mean?”

‘Help: When you allow a monster to join your party, the summoned monster will use one of your party slots, but the experience, SP, mana coins, and drop items gained from the enemies it kills will be distributed to the summoner and other party members just like a normal party.’

“What if I don’t want him in my party?”

‘Help: If you do not allow the summoned monster to join your party, it will be considered a “companion. The summoner will not receive any experience, SP, mana coins, or drop items gained from the monster.’

“…Eh, that’s…”

This is a quick explanation, but it’s super important information to me.

“If I summon a monster and have it fight as my pet, does that mean I won’t get the experience?”

‘That’s right.’

“If I summon a monster and let it fight, I can avoid the experience without using Escape!”

However, in this case, SP, money, and drop items would also be bypassed.

The only way to earn SP is still to Escape.

However, I can leave the cleaning up on the way to the monsters I summoned.

The level 2941 secret monster, you know.

“Okay, you can go back, Hotei.”

I unsummoned it, and it disappeared into thin air.
