Chapter 75 – (Probably) Incorrect Use of Weapon Skills
After a flash of inspiration from God’s advice, I made my way through the second floor of the Kururi Castle dungeon, changing weapons as I went.
Huh? That’s the same as what I did before, you say?
It’s true that, at first glance, it might seem like nothing has changed.
But my mindset has clearly changed.
My thoughts that were wandering about whether this is better or that is better have converged, and now I ask myself, “How should I use this skill? Or should I use a different skill?” Trial and error became more positive.
After I got to the third floor of the dungeon that day, I used the dungeon’s escape portal to leave.
I could have used the Evac skill to get out of the dungeon without using the dungeon portal, but it was just in the right place.
By the way, the Kururi Castle dungeon has nine floors, and it is said that there is an escape portal on every third floor.
However, the escape portals in dungeons below rank A are one-way.
Once you leave the dungeon, you must start your exploration from the beginning.
Parties wishing to complete a dungeon will usually have to camp in the dungeon, which means they will have to spend the night in the dungeon.
The sanctuary near the escape portal is safe, but they say it is not a comfortable place to stay.
That day, I stayed at a business hotel in Kimitsu City that I had reserved.
During the night, I checked my skills, finished upgrading them, and acquired new ones.
The next morning, after enjoying the hotel buffet, I returned to the Kururi Castle Dungeon.
I skipped the way up to the third floor.
The Karakuri Tank, which takes a long time to defeat, is destroyed with Advanced Lightning Magic, followed by Plunder the item with a bow.
It would be nice to try out the customized weapon skills after I get to the fourth floor.
I am sure that I want to get to the upper level by the end of the day, so I will not hesitate to use my bow and magic to defeat them.
After killing the last one, I escape.
‘You have successfully escaped.’
‘You have not gained any experience.’
‘You have earned 10219 SP.’
‘You have gained 301945 yen.’
‘You have obtained Armor Plate!’
‘You dropped 93602 yen!’
…This is the result of escaping from the enemy formation of two Karakuri Soldiers Lv 227, one Karakuri Tank Lv 231, and two Karakuri Drones Lv 223 on the third floor, leaving only one Karakuri Soldier behind.
The level of the Karakuri Tank is now 231, and the level difference bonus is 24 times higher than before the second floor, so it is slightly more profitable than before the second floor.
By the way, today, I use the designation of Trump Card 3 for Gain SP Up 3.
This way, the effect of Gain SP Up (increasing the gain SP by S.Lv x 10%) is enhanced by the effect of Trump Card (increasing the effect of the skill designated as the trump card by S.Lv x 25%), which further increases the gain SP.
Specifically, it’s up to 1.3 x 1.75 = 2.275 times.
Assuming that the Trump Card is used for Gain SP Up, increasing the skill level of the Trump Card will increase Gain SP more than increasing the skill level of Gain SP Up.
In addition, the Trump Card can be increased with half the SP of the Gain SP Up skill (25600 and 51200 for increasing the skill level from 2 to 3).
However, there are situations where it is better to use the Trump Card for other skills, so it cannot be said that the Trump Card is always the priority.
Instead of considering whether to prioritize or not, it would be better to consider increasing both skills.
In fact, with the current earning efficiency, it is possible to improve both skills if you take the time to do so.
At the end of the third floor, where I had turned back yesterday, I jumped into the portal leading to the fourth floor.
The internal structure was still the same Baumkuchen.
Many of us probably scribbled mazes on the backs of handouts in the early grades of elementary school, but this map was just like that.
It is easy enough to solve the maze on the printout, but if you were actually thrown into the maze, you would get lost without the map.
Even with the map, if I made a mistake on the skin, I would lose my current location in a heartbeat due to the structure of the Baumkuchen.
I guess that’s one of the reasons why this dungeon is so unpopular, even though it’s irrelevant to me with my Mini Map.
“Wow, a formation of four Karakuri Soldiers.”
The Karakuri Tanks firing long-range cannons and the Karakuri Drones with Gatling guns and alarms are tricky opponents against which to test my weapons skills.
On the other hand, the Karakuri Soldiers, with their spears and shields and solid fighting style, are perfect training partners.
“Well, let’s give it a try.”
I draw my bow and aim it at the head of the Karakuri Soldier closest to me.
I aim, aim, aim, and concentrate with Bull’s Eye, Sniper, and Concentrate, then release my arrows with my Archery skill.
The arrow pierces the eye (a large, round, ball-like object) of the Karakuri Soldier.
The Karakuri Soldier, who had fallen flat on his back, immediately turned into black particles and vanished into thin air.
It was a single blow.
I forgot to mention that familiar skills like Heaven’s Punishment and Preemptive Strike are also included.
Also, you can assume that basically all physical attacks have Plunder on them.
When one of them is killed, the attention of the other Karakuri Soldiers turns to me.
I shoot one of them in the knee with Rapid Fire, a subset of Archery, to slow them down.
In the meantime, the other two are closing in on me.
Two spears are rammed into me.
By this time, I no longer have a bow in my hand.
Instead, I have a spear in my hand.
This is a subset skill of Spearmanship called Spear Barrage.
I use my own spear to twist the enemy’s spear and deflect it to the side.
The enemy’s spear, which had drifted to the side, collided with the outstretched spear of the other.
Their movement stopped for a moment.
Sword in hand, I flanked the Karakuri Soldier on the left.
This is the Slash skill, a subset of the Sword Technique skill.
I unleash a simple slash with no hidden meaning.
It is so simple that it does a fair amount of damage in the shortest distance.
However, it will not lead to defeat.
“Not yet!”
I pull the sword back and grab the hilt with both hands.
This is the Full Strength Slash, a subset of the Two-Handed Sword skill.
This Full Strength Slash also incorporates the previously acquired All-Out Strike skill.
The hit rate is reduced when using an All-out Strike, but the Karakuri Soldier still flinches from the previous slash.
The hard steel body of the Karakuri Soldier was split in half by my slash, all the way to the hip joint.
“That’s two!”
But in the meantime, the other Karakuri Soldier had finished regaining its stance.
While dodging the spears that were thrust at me,
“Take this!”
I kicked away the remains of the Karakuri Soldier I had killed.
It was a Throwing using a kick enhanced by Martial Arts.
The Karakuri Soldier drew its spear and used its shield to push away the remains of its colleague.
But its legs stop, and the shield blocks its view, if only for a moment.
I use this opportunity to move behind the Karakuri Soldier.
Then I thrust the knife in my opposite hand through a gap in the Karakuri Soldier’s armor.
The fatal blow, which utilized my sense of Dagger Technique and Assassination Technique, pierced the Karakuri Soldier’s core.
The Karakuri Soldier’s body, along with the remains of its colleague lying on the ground, also turned into black particles and disappeared.
The last remaining one approaches me belatedly.
But I was still out of range of its spear.
I throw the knife in my hand with the Throwing Knife, Throw, Bull’s Eye, and the subset of the Ninjutsu skill, Kunai Throw.
The Karakuri Soldier received the knife with its shield.
The knife pierced the shield, sending a radial crack through it.
“This is the last one!”
I took out my spear and threw it with a baseball pitching motion.
With Spear Throw, Throw, Weapon Throw, Bull’s Eye, Knockout.
The spear shattered the cracked shield and pierced the Karakuri Soldier’s chest.
The Karakuri Soldier stopped moving, the tip of the spear sticking out from behind its back.
Since I put Knockout on it, it cannot move with only 1 HP.
“Well… that went well.”
It would have been cool to take a breather, but I still had a job to do.
I ran a quick 20 meters and used the escape timer.
It’s a successful run, just in the name of escape.
‘You have successfully escaped.’
‘You have not gained any experience.’
‘You have earned 7862 SP.’
‘You have gained 230690 yen.’
‘You have obtained Small Gear!’
‘You dropped 215769 yen!’
“Ugh, looks like the possession drop has reached a peak.”
I had accumulated a lot of money along the way, but I only had to drop a high amount of money once, and now I’m in this mess.
If I had to worry about low and high stakes every time under these conditions, my nerves would be shot to pieces.
So, I try to think of all the money I get during my exploration as if it never happened, except for the money I get at the end of the day.
But I would still be scared if someone said to me, ‘You have dropped 200,000 yen!’
Boss! This month’s balance sheet is in the red! Which property should we sell? It’s like that.
Unlike that game, my Dungeon Sugoroku only has red squares…
But that doesn’t matter now, does it?
What was I doing in the current battle?
I’ll explain it with some additions.
