Zombie Apocalypse: I Have Safe Zone Superpower

Chapter 390: Hunger

Chapter 390: Chapter 390: Hunger

Moona and Maxi’s eyes flashed with wariness, but the next second they heard Ivy say in a soft voice,

"We have fresh vegetables which will not last 6 months. Though there are indeed cup noodles that can be provided. There are also bento packs." Ivy explained.

Her words landed on the sisters like a forbidden temptation. Since the outbreak, they had never once heard of a base that could offer vegetables.

Meat, blood, flesh... those were the things whispered about whenever zombies were mentioned.

Vegetables felt unreal, almost laughable.

For a brief moment, curiosity flickered in their hollow gazes. And as if sensing that subtle shift in their emotions, Ivy smiled faintly.

"Wait here."

Her voice was calm, steady, leaving no room for argument. She turned and left the room, the door closing softly behind her.

The silence that followed felt heavier than before.

Moona and Maxi exchanged glances. The dim light reflected off the metal walls, and the faint hum of the base’s ventilation system filled the air.

Moona swallowed, her fingers curling nervously against her sleeve.

"What do you think?" she whispered, her voice barely audible.

Maxi did not answer immediately. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she replayed everything Ivy had said since the beginning.

After a moment, she spoke, her tone low and analytical.

"From everything she told us till now, it’s clear she doesn’t want to force us into anything. She’s tempting us, yes, but not threatening us. If she wanted to exploit us, she could’ve just let us enter the base and used us up quietly."

Moona listened, her brows knitting together.

"But..." Maxi continued, her jaw tightening, "this is the apocalypse. Nobody gives out such good offers for free, especially after knowing what we are."

Moona nodded slowly, unease crawling up her spine. The faint metallic smell in the room suddenly felt sharper.

"If that’s the case," she murmured, "then what should we do?"

A strange smile curved Maxi’s lips. It was faint, almost innocent, yet something unsettling lingered beneath it.

"If anyone tries to harm us," Maxi said softly, "we bite them. Take them with us."

Moona froze and stared at her sister, alarm flashing in her eyes.

"But Ivy wears a protective suit," she pointed out quickly. "Every time she comes near us, she’s covered. If she wants to harm us, she’ll protect herself too."

Maxi fell silent.

Before either of them could speak again, a calm voice drifted from behind them.

"Then you can slash your finger," Ivy said, having returned without a sound, "and let your blood spill everywhere."

Both Moona and Maxi turned sharply, their bodies tensing. Wariness filled their eyes as they stared at Ivy.

Ivy met their gazes without flinching, a gentle smile resting on her lips.

"As long as your blood is dropped somewhere," she continued, "the zombie virus will slowly spread in that area. It infects the air. You won’t even need to bite anyone."

Her words struck them like thunder.

Moona’s lips parted in shock, while Maxi’s pupils contracted slightly. The room felt colder all of a sudden.

If they had harbored even the slightest suspicion toward Ivy before, it vanished at that precise moment.

’Why would she tell us this?’ Moona thought, her heart pounding.

Ivy had just handed them a weapon. A weakness they could exploit if anyone dared to go against their wishes.

No one would do that unless they truly had no intention of harming them.

The tension slowly drained from their shoulders, their expressions easing. Ivy noticed it immediately and felt a quiet sense of relief bloom in her chest.

In her past life, she had endured countless illegal experiments. Cold tables, sharp instruments, masked faces, and endless pain had torn her apart, leaving scars far deeper than the ones on her skin.

Trauma had followed her like a shadow.

Back then, she had needed someone to save her.

Her parents had been the ones to pull her out of that abyss.

’This time,’ she thought calmly, ’I won’t let that happen again.’

In this life, she would make sure that no illegal experiments were carried out under her watch, neither inside her base nor beneath her nose. Moona and Maxi’s safety was something she would personally guarantee.

Once, she had been the one needing help.

Now, she would be the one offering it.

Completing the circle.

Ivy lifted her gaze and looked at the sisters calmly.

"The food will arrive soon," she said. "Is there anything else you want right now?"

Moona and Maxi exchanged glances. After a brief pause, Maxi held up three fingers.

"I want three packs of bento," she said, then paused and quickly corrected herself. "Each of us should get three packs."

Ivy burst into laughter, the sound lightening the atmosphere.

"Alright," she replied warmly. "Your wish will be fulfilled."

Within fifteen minutes, three boxes of bento were placed in front of each sister. The aroma of warm rice and seasoned vegetables filled the room.

Without hesitation, Moona and Maxi began to eat.

Ivy watched quietly, expecting them to feel full after finishing three packs. However, when the last box was emptied, both sisters still looked starving.

’Is it my imagination?’ Ivy wondered, her gaze lingering on them.

For a brief second, she thought she saw the dark patches around their faces fade. The sight sent a chill down her spine, but she forced herself not to jump to conclusions.

Just then, Moona and Maxi spoke in unison.

"We want more bento."

Without hesitation, Ivy waved her hand. In the next second, more bento boxes appeared neatly on the benches.

Moona and Maxi did not question how the food appeared out of thin air. Their focus was entirely on eating. They devoured everything placed before them.

In the end, they each finished twenty bento packs. Ivy stared, stunned by their appetite.

Yet, to her disbelief, Moona and Maxi still looked hungry. Carefully, Ivy asked, "Do you... want to eat more?"

Their eyes immediately lit up. "Is there any food left?" they asked eagerly.
