Chapter 389: Discussion
Chapter 389: Chapter 389: Discussion
Ivy gave a diplomatic smile. By now, a row of questions had formed in her mind.
"So, will you go first, or should I begin?"
Moona and Maxi exchanged a hesitant glance before Maxi, acting like an older sister, looked at Ivy with an impassive gaze.
"We want to stay in the base."
"You can’t." Ivy shook her head. Even if she was sympathetic to whatever experience Moona and Maxi might have gone through, she couldn’t imagine taking in half zombies in her base.
So what if they are kind? In the future, if they completed their transformation into zombies or accidentally infected others in the base, she wouldn’t know how to answer others.
Moona’s and Maxi’s expressions changed. Moona looked depressed, as if all the courage she had built till now was sucked out of her body, while Maxi stared at Ivy as if she was planning to fight till the end.
"Why? Can’t you give us a chance before deciding for us?"
"I would have if it were in my hand," Ivy said in a calm voice.
"Is it about trust? We can guarantee you that we will not harm anyone else!" Maxi assured, desperate to cling to the SiIvy base.
It wasn’t without any other reason... just the mere fact that the side room at the entrance was so clean, and even the food that was provided to them was generous!
Food was good, even the zombies avoided the base, and the housing facilities were great. Who wouldn’t want to live in this base?
Ivy calmly asked, "You can guarantee?"
"Yes! We can sign a contract!" Maxi was desperate and nodded.
"Do you know why you are in such a state?" Ivy asked, and her question made both the sisters fall silent. "You both are lying somewhere between human and zombies. And soon you will transform into either a zombie or die. There is no turning back."
At her words, both Moona and Maxi paled. They never thought that their future was so bleak.
Despair engulfed their heart, and Moona’s eyes shimmered with tears.
"So why are you even conversing with us?" Moona shouted. Maybe she was pushed over the edge, or maybe the despair of fighting till now, only to realize that they were heading toward the abyss, made her go out of control.
"Because I want to cooperate." Ivy put forth her proposal.
But before she could even present her proposal, Maxi shrieked, "Don’t even think that we are ready to hand ourselves over for experiments! You better not mess with us, otherwise... otherwise we will all die together!"
Ivy chuckled, "Missy, hold your horse. If I truly wanted to force you both into experimentation, we wouldn’t be sitting in the room, trying to have a civilized talk."
At her words, Maxi’s rage calmed down. Indeed... Ivy had every chance to exploit them, but she still chose the peaceful one.
"So what do you want? Do you know something we don’t?" Maxi asked cautiously. For some reason, she remained so controlled because a voice in her heart was telling... Ivy will not destroy them even if she doesn’t allow them to enter the base.
Ivy heaved a sigh of relief when Maxi looked calm and explained,
"We will make a contract. I want you both to help us make an antidote for the zombie virus."
"That’s the nice way to put the fact that you and your base want to experiment on us," Moona said defensively.
At her words, Ivy chuckled.
"Did you forget? I stated the contract. I may not know many things, but here are three things about me and this base. First, in our base, we prefer to think and do things with a civilized attitude. Second thing, you both are half zombie, meaning something in your body could resist the zombie virus, and that something is invaluable to us."
Ivy’s gaze was steady, sharp enough to pin them in place without hostility.
"The third thing," Ivy continued calmly, "in return for helping us, we will give you a stable life. A house permanently under your name, three meals a day, and a specialized place dedicated to just both of you."
Moona’s heart wavered. Ivy’s offer was too tempting, but at the thought of unknown experiments... her heart shuddered.
"How can we trust you? And what type of experiments could be conducted on us?" Maxi asked in a wary voice.
"Well, for starters, your blood, some hair, saliva, and such things," Ivy explained, her voice soft.
"How much blood? I am not ready to let you and your base draw unlimited blood from us!" Maxi stated.
"Indeed! And you can’t expect us to agree to everything in the name of experiments." Moona added, a bit timidly.
Ivy paused for a moment; she was stunned to see the same flicker of caution that she used to feel.
Those bad memories made her soften her stance, and she stated calmly,
"You will have the right to decline, and I won’t question you. No one, and I quote, no one will touch without your consent. As security, I am ready to hire superhumans around whom you feel safe, and your hard limits will be listed."
Seeing Moona’s and Maxi’s relaxing stance, Ivy continued,
"I will also ask the lab to give me the list of experiments they want to conduct and pass them to you. In case you find any of them inappropriate, those proposals will be rejected."
Moona’s and Maxi’s hearts settled, though they didn’t dare to relax quickly.
"As a reward, if we succeed in making the antidote because of your contribution, then I will personally reward you two an entire building. Even after the apocalypse, you can rent it out and live a peaceful life."
"Safe for you to say! But who knows when the apocalypse will end?" Maxi murmured in a dismissive tone.
"So what type of tangible reward do you want?" Ivy asked.
"Food!" Moona blurted out, "We want food! At least 6 months of food!"
"That might not be possible..."
