Chapter 435: Walter’ Hatred
Chapter 435: Chapter 435: Walter’ Hatred
At first, Silas decided to ignore it. He had no intention of wasting time on petty arguments.
However, the first soldier grew more and more outrageous, his voice rising sharply over the clatter of training.
Sweat rolled down his temples as he shouted,
"Ivy is only the representative because the real base leader made a bad deal! As soon as the real leader finds someone better, everyone will see how incompetent she really is!"
Those words finally made Silas’s anger surge.
’What nonsense are you spouting?’ he thought coldly.
They didn’t know. None of them knew that Ivy was the real base leader.
What did this man even mean? That Ivy had secretly gotten together with the base leader and that was why she held power?
That twisted implication alone was enough to ignite fury in his chest.
Without hesitation, Silas strode forward.
Lightning crackled faintly around his body as he activated his thunder ability, the air buzzing with a sharp, metallic scent.
In a blink, he forced himself between the two soldiers and shoved them apart.
He had awakened his thunder superpower long ago, and not long after that, two more abilities had emerged, secrets he had never revealed.
The first was healing, which he had awakened just a month ago.
The second was pure super strength, something his system had gradually amplified as he slaughtered more and more zombies.
Now, his physical power alone was enough to overwhelm five or six superhumans who were one or two levels above him.
Compared to him, these two soldiers were nothing.
Once separated, both men stumbled back, staring at Silas in shock. The training ground fell into an uneasy silence.
The first soldier lifted his head and glared at Silas with naked hatred, as if he already knew who Silas belonged to.
Even though Silas didn’t make it obvious he could feel that he was treated much roughly than the other soldiers.
’Both of them are so vengeful!’
Silas sensed it immediately.
He looked at the man carefully. He was ordinary, almost forgettable.
Barely five-foot-seven, with an average build and an unremarkable face.
Yet the arrogance and burning hatred in his eyes told a completely different story.
Silas couldn’t deny it, this man had potential. With the right mindset, he could rise far.
Unfortunately, that potential was now buried under resentment.
’But why?’ Silas wondered. ’Why so much hatred?’
There were only two possibilities. Either this man hated Ivy... or he hated Silas himself.
If it was hatred toward Silas, that was understandable. He had enemies. People who wanted him dead.
But if this hatred was directed at Ivy, then this man could not be allowed to remain in the base.
Silas’s voice was calm but heavy with pressure. "What’s your name?"
The man remained silent, lips pressed tightly together.
Before Silas could repeat himself, someone in the crowd spoke up nervously.
"His name is Walter. He’s been causing trouble since he arrived. At first, he just seemed dissatisfied, but over time, he started questioning Goddess Ivy herself."
Silas stared at Walter deeply.
"Since you have so many issues with Ivy," he said coldly, "why don’t you leave the base instead of staying here and hating her?"
Walter immediately protested, his voice sharp.
"I’m here because of my own capability. I have a good background. I earn enough to support myself. I have every right to live here."
He sneered. "And Ivy is just a representative. Just because I don’t like her doesn’t mean I can’t stay in this base."
Silas smiled faintly. "If that’s your logic, then at least explain why you hate her."
Walter’s gaze darkened. "I don’t hate Ivy."
"Prove it," Silas replied. "Because everything you’ve done so far makes it look like you do."
Walter smirked. "Even if I hate her, so what? Everyone has their own opinions. I can hate whoever I want. It’s not your place to judge me."
Silas let out a soft laugh.
"Up until now, I was only suspicious. But listening to you," he said slowly, "I’m starting to feel like you might be a spy."
Walter’s expression stiffened. "I’m not a spy."
Silas lowered his guard slightly, but only slightly. ’At least not a spy,’ he thought.
’But still dangerous.’ He couldn’t allow this kind of termite to remain inside the base.
"I’ll make one thing clear," Silas said flatly. "Ivy is extremely close to the base leader. And so am I."
His gaze sharpened. "If it weren’t for Ivy, this base wouldn’t even exist. She was the one who convinced the leader in the first place. Not to mention, the food you eat here?" He paused deliberately.
"Half of it is supplied by Ivy herself."
A wave of shock rippled through the crowd.
Silas continued, "So if you truly have a backbone, you have two choices. Either stop hating Ivy, or stop eating the food provided here."
His voice hardened.
"Otherwise, I’ll only see you as an ungrateful person...someone who bites the hand feeding him in an apocalypse."
Walter fell silent. All the momentum he had built evaporated instantly.
Indeed, people could hate whoever they wanted...but hating someone who was helping them survive? That was pure ingratitude.
Silas glanced at the surrounding soldiers. "You don’t have to like Ivy," he added calmly.
"But unreasonable hatred only makes you ungrateful. Remember that."
With that, he memorized Walter’s name and turned away, resuming his patrol.
Behind him, Walter clenched his fists, veins bulging. Suddenly, he shouted, "What about Hannah?!"
Silas froze.
His eyes narrowed slowly as realization dawned.
Of course. Hannah.
He might forget many people, but not her. She was the girl who had repeatedly bullied Ivy behind his back.
Every time, Silas had taken revenge, yet his hatred toward her never faded.
When the apocalypse came, she had become irrelevant to him, and he had stopped thinking about her altogether.
But now her name surfaced again.
And once again, she was being used to hurt Ivy.
Cold anger seeped into Silas’s bones as he turned back.
"Are you talking about Hannah," he asked quietly, "the one who bullied Ivy out of jealousy back in middle school and high school?"
