Chapter 436: Silas’s Food
Chapter 436: Chapter 436: Silas’s Food
His gaze sharpened further. "Or the Hannah who was obsessed with Arthur and couldn’t stand the fact that Arthur liked Ivy?"
Walter’s eyes widened. He shook his head quickly. "No. That’s not it." His voice trembled with frustration. "It was Ivy who was jealous all along. She didn’t like Hannah, and that’s why she didn’t allow her to enter this base."
Silas sneered, the corner of his lips lifting with cold amusement.
"If that’s really the case," he said, his voice sharp and steady, "then where’s your proof? Bring me evidence, and I’ll accept Ivy’s mistake."
His aura was so cold that all the soldiers nearby shivered and silently prayed for Walter. Walter, too, was scared and had the urge to run away.
But thinking about Hannah’s face, he fell silent, his throat bobbing as he swallowed. After a moment, he forced out,
"Hannah isn’t in this base. Isn’t that proof enough?"
Silas laughed, the sound low and mocking. "By that logic," he replied, "I could just as easily say Ivy didn’t want her bully inside the base."
Walter’s eyes lit up as if he had finally found a foothold. He turned toward the others and declared,
"This base belongs to the base leader. Ivy doesn’t have the authority to decide who stays and who leaves. So yes, she’s in the wrong."
Silas laughed again. "Have you already forgotten what you said just a few minutes ago?"
He took a step forward. "Ivy was the one who convinced the base leader to establish this base. You could call her half the base leader herself. And as the representative, she has more than enough authority."
His gaze hardened. "If the base leader were truly dissatisfied with her decision, she would have been stopped long ago."
Walter opened his mouth to argue, but Silas cut him off calmly. "You still haven’t shown any proof."
This time, Walter spoke more quickly, almost defensively. "I heard it from Hannah herself. She told me Ivy used to bully her."
Silas smiled faintly, a dangerous glint flashing in his eyes.
"If you’re so willing to believe Hannah’s side, then why didn’t you ever bother to hear Ivy’s? Did you even try to know Ivy’s side?"
Walter froze, words failing him.
Silas continued, his tone almost conversational.
"If you really want the truth, go ask Ivy’s or Hannah’s old classmates. Ask the people who went to high school or university with them."
His smile deepened. "Then you’ll learn how Hannah took revenge on Ivy every time Arthur said a few words in Ivy’s favor and how I took revenge on Hannah in return."
Walter’s eyes widened. Around them, several soldiers stiffened, shock spreading across their faces.
Silas stepped forward and, without the slightest hesitation, slapped Walter hard. The sharp sound echoed across the training ground.
Walter staggered back, eyes wide in disbelief.
He raised a trembling finger toward Silas, about to speak, but Silas pointed right back at him, his gaze cold and final.
"I’m letting you off today," he said quietly, "because I’m busy and I want to see my wife."
His voice dropped further. "But I’ll remember your name. And one day, I’ll personally make sure you leave this base. If you feel so much pity for Hannah, then go live with her instead of staying here and hating the person who built this place for you."
He turned to the surrounding soldiers.
"I’ll say this once. You’re free to like or hate anyone you want. But if you’re living in Ivy’s base, you will respect her. She is, for all intents and purposes, a half-base leader."
With that, Silas turned and walked away.
The soldiers couldn’t help but laugh. In truth, there were hardly any people in the base, especially within the military, who genuinely hated Ivy.
At most, some were neutral toward her. Many more admired her deeply. Every decision she had made had benefited both the military and the base.
Their living conditions were the best among all nearby bases. Food was provided freely.
The apartments they lived in cost them nothing. All of it had been secured because Ivy had argued with the base leader that soldiers dedicating their lives to the base deserved proper treatment.
Training here was free as well, unlike in other military bases where even lessons came with a price tag.
Even the zombie crystals they obtained were distributed generously, ninety percent to the soldiers, with the base keeping only ten.
Cold weapons were provided, and the research department worked tirelessly to develop better equipment to make their lives easier.
While soldiers in other bases toiled under unbearable heat, they lived here in a consistently cool environment, with minimal internal conflict.
For them, this was a real job... one where they could focus on improving themselves and still get paid well for it.
That was why Walter’s hatred toward Ivy had never made sense to them.
Now, it finally did. And there was only one conclusion.
’He’s an idiot.’
Walter noticed the looks directed his way and flew into a rage. "What are you all staring at?!" he shouted, fury blazing in his eyes.
No one paid him any attention.
To them, Walter was nothing more than a worm.
Meanwhile, Silas finally reached the area where Ivy was working.
The base was expanding again, buildings rising steadily under her direction.
After hours of overseeing construction, Ivy took a short break and entered a newly built office near the site.
Inside, she sank into her chair and stretched, muscles aching pleasantly.
Without a second thought, she waved her hand. A few dishes materialized on the desk before her, food she had stored in her personal space over time.
Looking at the dwindling supply in her temporal storage, she sighed softly.
’I really need to drag Silas back and make him cook more for me,’ she thought.
A faint flush crept onto her cheeks. Compared to Silas, who seemed good at everything, she always felt slightly inferior.
She knew how to cook, but standing next to him, she still lagged behind.
