Chapter 438: Punishment

Chapter 438: Chapter 438: Punishment

Silas laughed as he took in Arthur’s miserable state, the sound echoing coldly through the dim prison corridor.

"It’s been a long time since I’ve had the chance to personally take care of you," he said with clear amusement. "Especially after you dared to claim that Ivy was your fiancée."

His smile deepened, turning sharp and cruel. "This time, I’ll make sure you understand reality properly."

Arthur shook his head again and again, panic flooding his eyes, his throat too tight to form coherent words.

But it was already too late. Silas didn’t pause. His fists and kicks landed relentlessly, each blow accompanied by the dull sound of flesh meeting bone.

The air filled with the metallic stench of blood and the hoarse cries Arthur could no longer suppress.

When Silas was finally satisfied, he rolled his neck slowly, as if loosening stiff muscles, and turned toward the guard.

"From now on," he said casually, "whenever it’s time to beat this bastard, contact me first. I’ll be the one punishing him."

The guard swallowed and nodded quickly.

Silas then shifted his gaze toward a shadowed corner of the prison.

Another figure was hiding there, silently reflecting on his fate.

If Ivy had been present, she would have recognized him instantly. It was Joel.

The moment Joel felt Silas’s gaze lock onto him, a violent shiver ran through his body. He raised his head slowly, meeting Silas’s eyes with fear barely concealed.

"Stay away from me," Joel said hoarsely.

Silas burst out laughing.

"I haven’t even begun," he replied lightly, "and some people are already regretting their decisions."

He walked toward Joel with unhurried steps, his smile eerily calm.

"I heard you wanted to experiment on my wife."

Joel fell silent. Cold sweat trickled down his spine before he forced himself to speak, desperation bleeding into his voice.

"I genuinely want to help humanity. As long as Ivy allowed the experiment, the entire human race would benefit."

Silas nodded slowly, a soft smile spreading across his face, as if he agreed. Joel’s heart leapt. ’Did I convince him?’ he wondered desperately.

The next instant, a sharp crack echoed through the prison, followed by Joel’s agonized scream. Silas had dislocated his arm.

Before Joel could even catch his breath, Silas relocated it. Then he dislocated it again.

And again. More than ten times.

Joel eventually fainted from the sheer agony.

Silas snapped his fingers. A trace of yellow energy slipped into Joel’s body, easing the pain just enough for consciousness to return.

Joel’s eyes fluttered open, relief flashing briefly, only to vanish when he saw Silas standing over him.

His entire body began to tremble uncontrollably. Only now did he understand why Arthur had cried so desperately earlier.

For the next few minutes, Silas repeated the process. Sometimes it was an arm. Sometimes it was a joint. The pain piled endlessly until Joel felt as though death itself would be kinder.

When Silas finally saw complete despair reflected in Joel’s eyes, he smiled.

"In this life," he said calmly, "and in any other life, I’ll make sure my wife is never experimented on. Forget that idea entirely."

His voice dropped colder.

"And everything you’ve planned or spoken about until now, I’ll make sure you experience it yourself."

Straightening up, he added,

"For now, you and Arthur will live out whatever miserable life you have left. When I’m done, I’ll deal with you properly."

With that, he turned and walked toward Hannah.

Hannah immediately stumbled backward, fear flooding her face. How could she not recognize Silas?

He was Ivy’s protector, the man who never hesitated to exact revenge for her sake. She shook her head frantically.

"I haven’t done anything to Ivy recently."

Silas laughed softly.

"I know about your very devoted admirer," he said. "I’ve been wondering how to deal with you."

His eyes narrowed slightly.

"Since you enjoy collecting admirers and turning people against Ivy, I’ll fulfill your wish."

He glanced at the guard. "Bring Walter here."

Hannah’s eyes widened in terror. "Walter? Who is Walter?"

Silas chuckled. "No need to pretend. You’ll see him soon enough."

Not long after, Walter arrived at the prison, his expression uneasy and confused. He had no idea why he had been summoned here.

’Am I being imprisoned just for saying a few words about Ivy?’ he wondered nervously. That couldn’t be right. His heart pounded as he stepped inside.

The moment he saw Silas, Hannah, Arthur, and Joel, his breath caught. When his eyes landed on Hannah, they widened in shock. He rushed forward instinctively.

"What’s going on?" he demanded anxiously. "Why are you so badly hurt?"

Hannah’s clothes were soaked in blood. Her face was distorted with pain, and blood seeped from the corner of her lips. Though she looked better than Arthur and Joel, it was undeniable that she was suffering greatly.

Seeing Walter, some of the pain seemed to ease. Her eyes shimmered as she sobbed softly.

"Get me out of here," she pleaded. "I was wrong. I know I was wrong."

Walter turned sharply toward Silas, panic and anger blazing.

"What are you doing?" he shouted. "Did you really go so far as to beat a woman? You’re not a man! If you want to beat someone then beat me!"

Silas laughed.

"I was never a man," he replied coldly. "If someone thinks of harming my wife, I don’t care about gender."

Then he tilted his head slightly.

"But you’re right about one thing. I can’t continue hurting her. She might actually die."

His gaze shifted to Walter. "So you’ll take her place."

Walter’s eyes widened. "What do you mean..."

He didn’t finish his sentence. The next second, fists and kicks rained down on him.

One moment he was standing, the next he was crushed to the ground, pain exploding through his body.

Hannah gasped and instinctively retreated, distancing herself from Walter. She knew too well how terrifying Silas could be when it came to Ivy.

He hadn’t even spared her. Even if he never laid hands on her directly, the things he did were far worse.
